Diaspora gateway, dry spices, handicraft B2B, college kits.
Kerala diaspora gateway
Kochi is the staging point for Gulf, UK and US-resident Malayali families. Relatives in Udaipur ship clothes, books and dry items to a Kochi household, which then forwards onward to the family abroad.
Dry-spice samples
Cardamom pods, peppercorns, dry turmeric — packed sealed, no oils. Commercial invoice + sender KYC if it’s a B2B trade sample. We do not move spice oils, only dry whole/ground spice.
College care-kits
Students at CUSAT, Cochin University and IIM Kozhikode (which routes via Kochi). Heavy in August–September: books, kitchenware, winter shawls, things parents send from home.
Family gifts
Marine Drive, Kakkanad and Aluva residents — birthday and festival parcels from Udaipur family. Sweets that are dry-packed, dry mithai, woollens for monsoon evenings.
Handicraft B2B
Recurring shipments to Marine Drive and MG Road retailers — block-print stoles, Udaipur miniatures, brass items. Weekly or fortnightly slot, single rate sheet.
Wedding shipments
Syrian Christian and Hindu weddings in Kerala frequently include Udaipur silver (non-precious) and handicrafts. Decor returns and gift consolidation come back the same way.
A short, real list.
DTDC (and every air-network courier) prohibits these. Items most often misjudged on the Udaipur → Kochi lane:
Banned outright
- Liquids of any kind — perfumes, attars, oils, gels, hand sanitiser
- Aerosols and pressurised cans
- Cosmetics, nail polish, fragrance samples
- Flammable solids and matches
- Currency notes and gold/silver bullion
- Lithium batteries above 100 Wh on the air leg
Common Udaipur → Kochi misjudgements
- Coconut oil, camphor oil, spice oils — these are all oils, all banned. The single most common misjudgement on this lane.
- Liquid pickle, fish, fresh seafood — perishable and liquid. Cannot move on a 4–5 day lane.
- Arrack and any liquor — alcohol cannot ship via courier on any DTDC lane.
- Cardamom oil and pepper oil — even small bottles. Whole spice is fine; pressed oils are not.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.
Specific to Udaipur → Kochi.
How does the air leg actually work on this lane?
Only express bookings get an air leg — the parcel moves Udaipur → Mumbai by road, then flies Mumbai–Kochi (sometimes Bangalore–Kochi). That’s how express lands in 2–3 working days. Surface bookings stay on the trunk the whole way and take 4–5 working days. Don’t expect a “free upgrade” on surface; it doesn’t happen.
What documentation do I need for spice samples to a Kochi importer?
A commercial invoice on your letterhead with HSN code (0908 for cardamom, 0904 for pepper, 0910 for turmeric), declared value and your GSTIN, plus the sender’s KYC. Pack sealed in food-grade pouches — no loose fill — and label “DRY SPICE — NOT OIL” to avoid screening confusion.
Do you deliver to outer Kerala — Kottayam, Trivandrum, Kozhikode?
Yes. DTDC’s last-mile reaches almost every Kerala pin code, but anything outside Kochi/Ernakulam adds 1–2 days because it goes through Kochi sortation first. Trivandrum surface is typically 5–6 days, Kozhikode 5 days. We confirm the pin code before booking so the date you see is honest.
