Same evening into the DTDC International facility; air movement to a US gateway via Delhi (DEL — fastest for most US lanes from Jaipur, ~280 km road feeder) or Mumbai (BOM) — JFK, Newark, LAX, SFO or ORD depending on routing.

A 2 kg parcel — say a Sanganer block-print sample lot plus a stack of textbooks, ~30 × 25 × 15 cm:

What you’ll need at pickup.
Customs paperwork is the most common reason an international parcel stalls. We’ll walk you through it before pickup so it doesn’t — and for Jaipur’s gem-and-jewellery senders, we know the extra paperwork CBP looks for.
KYC of the sender
One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup; not stored beyond DTDC’s record.
Commercial invoice with HS codes
For B2B parcels — gem-trade non-precious sample lots, block-print bulk, jewellery sample boxes — a printed commercial invoice listing items, quantity, value and HS codes. CBP scrutinises this carefully on Jaipur consignments. For personal gifts, a written declaration suffices but value still must be honestly stated.
Prescription (medicines)
For tablets going to a student or family member: a copy of the prescription with doctor’s registration number. The FDA controlled-substance list is strict — no injectables, no liquids, no scheduled drugs.
What the United States doesn’t let in.
These are real CBP, FDA and USDA rules — not our caution. Items shipped against them are seized, destroyed, or returned at the consignee’s cost. For Jaipur senders specifically: precious stones (diamonds, emeralds, ruby, sapphire) are NOT acceptable on courier — Johari Bazaar exporters know to use insured cargo or carrier hand-carry. Non-precious sample-grade stones, glass and synthetic stones are fine with KYC and a commercial invoice. Hemp/CBD policy varies state-to-state but the federal courier policy is strict; assume it’s blocked.
Don’t even try
- Precious stones (diamond, emerald, ruby, sapphire) and gold/silver jewellery — courier networks won’t carry; use insured cargo or carrier hand-carry. Non-precious sample stones are OK with proper invoice.
- All dairy products — paneer, ghee, khoya-based mithai, milk powder. FDA seizes even sealed factory packs.
- All meat products — including dried, sealed and packaged. USDA rules are absolute.
- Fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds, untreated plants — USDA APHIS biosecurity flags these on entry.
- Hemp and CBD products — federal courier policy is strict regardless of state law at destination.
- Cuban cigars and tobacco from sanctioned origins — embargo rules.
- Live animals, insects, reptiles — never on a courier.
- Aerosols, lithium batteries above 100 Wh, all liquids — universal courier rules.
Allowed with care
- Block-print and Sanganer/Bagru textiles — cotton clothing, dohars, cushion covers. Declare a fair value.
- Non-precious gem samples and synthetic stones — declare each item’s description, weight and value on the invoice; CBP routinely opens jewellery parcels for inspection.
- Kundan, Meenakari, Polki decorative pieces (non-precious) — declare make, technique, value.
- Books and printed material — straightforward; declare title and value.
- Prescription tablets — sealed strip, original prescription attached, no controlled substances or liquids.
- Sealed dry foods, commercially packaged — strictly excluding dairy, meat, fresh produce. Even then, declare ingredients honestly; the FDA may still hold.

Can I ship loose diamonds or precious stones from Johari Bazaar to NY 47th Street on courier?
No — and Jaipur’s gem-trade exporters know this already. Courier networks (DTDC, FedEx, DHL personal) explicitly exclude loose precious stones, certified diamonds and high-value gold/silver jewellery from their service. The right channels are insured cargo agents (Brinks, Malca-Amit) or carrier hand-carry through customs at JFK with proper paperwork. What we DO ship from Johari Bazaar: synthetic-stone sample lots, glass-sample shipments, non-precious sample-grade stones, and Kundan/Meenakari decorative pieces (non-precious metal) — all with KYC and full commercial invoice.
Why does the USA seize sealed Indian sweets and ghee-based mithai?
The FDA and USDA classify dairy as a high-risk import — bovine disease, ingredient labelling, processing standards. Even ghee-based mithai in sealed factory packs is treated as a dairy product. CBP at JFK and LAX in particular sees thousands of these parcels and is consistent: seized and destroyed. Send block-print textiles, non-precious jewellery and non-food gifts instead.
Which US gateway is fastest from Jaipur?
JFK (New York) is the fastest for the Northeast — NY, NJ, PA, MA, CT typically deliver in 5–6 working days; this is also the natural gateway for Jaipur’s gem-trade clients shipping to 47th Street. LAX serves California in similar time and works for block-print B2B to LA design houses. ORD (Chicago) handles IL, WI, IN and the Midwest. Newark and SFO are alternates.
