DTDC (and every air-network courier) prohibits these. Items most often misjudged on the Jaipur → Gangtok lane:

Common Jaipur → Gangtok misjudgements
- Fresh fruit, cheese, yak-milk products — perishable. Will not survive a 5–6 day surface route.
- Local liquor or chhang — alcohol is banned across DTDC, including return-trip gifting.
- Pickle and ghee — semi-liquid; do not pack with regular parcels.
- Attar bottles from the old city — these are oils. They cannot ship.

Why is surface 5–6 days when other lanes are 2–3?
Two reasons. First, distance — Jaipur to Kolkata is the long trunk leg before the parcel even enters east India. Second, NH10 between Bagdogra and Gangtok is a single mountain road that closes for landslides every monsoon (typically July to September), and we add a day or two to surface estimates during those months as a matter of routine. We will not quote 3 days on this lane and you should distrust anyone who does.
Do you deliver to Pelling, Lachung or Lachen?
Yes — North and West Sikkim deliveries (Pelling, Yuksom, Lachung, Lachen) are served via DTDC last-mile from Gangtok. Add roughly 2 days to whatever option you pick, and note that the spoke vans run only Monday to Friday. Tell us the exact PIN and the destination village; we will quote a realistic transit, not a generic figure.
How do Sikkim University student care-kits work?
Most parents send a 10–15 kg consolidated kit per term — a mix of clothing, food packets (sealed dry only), books, and a card. We pack it as one parcel under the student’s name with the hostel block on the AWB, photograph the contents at packing for your records, and send POD when the hostel signs. Going via express keeps it inside 4 working days, including the NH10 leg.
