Send a parcel from Bangalore to Visakhapatnam. We pick up free.
About 1,000 kilometres — the longest of our Andhra lanes, running north on NH44 and then up the coastal NH16 through the delta to the port. 2–3 working days on DTDC surface, 1–2 by air express. Free pickup anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, and on this route it is mostly Whitefield, Electronic City, Hebbal and Yelahanka.
Pickup across Bengaluru, north then up the coast, delivery across Vizag city and its industrial belt.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Within 60–90 minutes in the core city; two hours for Whitefield, Electronic City Phase 2, Hebbal and Yelahanka, all of which sit at the wrong end of a peak-hour run. Industrial pickups in the Whitefield and Electronic City tech parks need a gate pass raised by your facilities desk — tell us the block and floor when you book and we will time the visit to it.
Bengaluru sortation.
Same-evening handover into the DTDC Bengaluru facility so the parcel makes that night's northbound movement rather than waiting a day at origin. Anything booked after the late cut-off is scanned in but rides the following night.
NH44 north, NH16 up the coast.
Up the Bengaluru–Hyderabad trunk, east into the Krishna delta, then north on the coastal highway through Rajahmundry to the port. It is the longest run of our five Andhra–Telangana lanes and the only one that spends most of its distance on the coast. Surface holds 2–3 working days; the air leg out of Kempegowda brings it to 1–2.
Visakhapatnam delivery.
Off the Vizag hub. The city runs on the 530xxx pin series and delivers quickly across Dwaraka Nagar, MVP Colony, Gajuwaka and the beach road. Addresses out toward Anakapalle, Parawada and the industrial and agency belt fall into 531xxx and are worked on a separate, longer beat — usually a day behind the city.
POD on WhatsApp.

Starting rates, Bangalore → Visakhapatnam.
Billing is on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, plus the fuel surcharge applicable on the booking date. GST extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 2–3 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Every parcel of 5 kg or more on this lane gets free pickup anywhere in Bengaluru. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, and on this route the classic surprise is machine spares — a 12 kg pump housing crated in timber and foam can measure out at 25 kg volumetric, and you are billed on the crate. Send us the outer dimensions before you build the packing and we will tell you what it will cost either way. Between October and December, factor a cyclone-season buffer into any date you promise at the other end.
Industrial spares, pharma and IT hardware, and the coast's diaspora sending home.
Plant and machinery spares
Vizag is a heavy-industry city — steel, shipbuilding, port handling, fertiliser and refining — and that vendor base buys instrumentation, bearings, seals, valves, control cards and hydraulic parts from Bengaluru's engineering suppliers. These are the parcels where a breakdown clock is running, so they usually go express with the AWB read out over the phone to the maintenance engineer waiting for it. We crate small heavy items in timber-and-foam rather than plain carton.
Pharma packaging, documents and non-hazardous samples
The pharma cluster on the Parawada side and the units inside the SEZ generate a steady flow of artwork proofs, packaging mockups, batch documentation, QA paperwork and non-hazardous material samples out of Bengaluru. What we can and cannot carry here is a genuine question with a genuine answer — read the restricted list and the FAQ below before you book anything that came out of a laboratory.
Laptops, workstations and IT hardware
Vizag's IT presence on the Rushikonda side has grown enough that hardware now moves both ways: machines issued to staff who relocated home, developer workstations, monitors, docks and networking gear going out from Whitefield and Electronic City offices. Double-wall carton, foam corners, FRAGILE marking — and read the battery note below, because that is where these bookings go wrong.
Campus and student parcels
Andhra University and the engineering colleges around the city pull students in from all over the state, and a fair number of their families now live and work in Bengaluru. Books, a laptop, bedding, winter clothes for the hostel, documents needed for an admission or a scholarship file. Semester-start weeks in June–July are visibly the busiest stretch on this segment.
Sankranti parcels to the coast
Bengaluru's Telugu working population is large and a real share of it is from north coastal Andhra. From the last week of December the lane fills with clothes for the family, dry sweets, gift boxes and things bought here to be handed over at home. Book early in that fortnight — the surface transit holds, but the last mile in Vizag is under real pressure.
Retail restocking for the city's trade
The shops around Dwaraka Nagar and Jagadamba Junction restock small, fast-moving lines out of Bengaluru — phone accessories, fashion jewellery, footwear lots, packaging, display fittings. These are weekly repeat movements and are better handled on a contract rate sheet than as one-off bookings; ask us for one if you are sending more than two or three consignments a month.
The list that will actually get a parcel refused.
These are refused by DTDC and by every network with an air leg. The second card is what actually gets attempted on a lane running from a tech city to a port-and-industry city:
Banned outright
- Liquids in any form — including sealed bottles
- Compressed gas, aerosols and pressurised cylinders
- Paints, thinners, solvents and adhesives
- Corrosives, acids and industrial reagents
- Explosives, detonators and pyrotechnics
- Currency, bullion and unset precious stones
Common Bengaluru → Visakhapatnam misjudgements
- Laboratory reagents and chemical samples — the misjudgement particular to this lane. A pharma or QA sample is not automatically shippable because it is small. Solvents, acids, alcohol-based preparations and anything with a hazard pictogram on the label are refused outright. Inert powders and finished dosage forms in retail packaging are usually fine with the material safety data sheet and an invoice. Send us the MSDS on WhatsApp before you pack, not after we arrive.
- Marine paint, anti-fouling coatings and touch-up aerosols — attempted more on this route than any other because of the shipyard and port vendor base. Every one of them is a flammable liquid or a pressurised can. There is no version of this we can carry.
- Loose lithium cells, spare battery packs and power banks — a battery sealed inside a laptop travels on surface; a bare cell or spare pack does not, and anything over 100 Wh cannot go on the air leg at all. Declare the laptop at booking so we route it right.
- Araku coffee decoction and wet food — the beans and the ground powder ship freely and often. Brewed decoction, and any chutney or curry paste standing in oil, is a liquid and will be pulled at sortation.
- Dried fish and prawn podi — legal, but refused in practice on shared line-haul. The odour transfers to every parcel around it and the packaging leaks brine when it is warm. Do not pack it with a food parcel hoping it will pass.
AWB the moment you book. Live tracking. POD on delivery.
You get the AWB on WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked into DTDC, and it is live on the public tracker at dtdc.in from that point. The proof of delivery comes back to you within an hour of the handover. Two things matter more on Vizag than on a metro lane. First, the recipient's mobile number is not optional — the industrial townships, the port-side areas and the SEZ all have controlled gates where the rider phones from outside and does not enter, and an unanswered call becomes a failed attempt. Second, between October and December the tracker is the honest source on a Bay of Bengal cyclone alert: when the coastal road movement is held, the scan will show it before anyone can tell you over the phone.
Specific to Bangalore → Visakhapatnam.
Does cyclone season actually affect delivery to Visakhapatnam?
Yes, and this is the one lane in our Andhra set where we say so up front rather than hiding behind a transit band. Visakhapatnam is on the Bay of Bengal coast and the October–December window carries a real risk of a system forming. What it does to a parcel is straightforward: coastal highway movement is held while a warning is active, the port and industrial areas shut, and last-mile delivery stops for as long as it takes for roads to clear. That can add anything from a day to the better part of a week, and no courier — DTDC included — can guarantee a date through it. Practical advice: in that window, book express rather than surface if the date matters, ship a few days earlier than you think you need to, and watch the tracker rather than the calendar.
Can I courier pharma or chemical samples to the SEZ and the Parawada units?
Some of them, and the answer depends entirely on what is in the packet. Finished formulations in retail or sealed commercial packaging, inert powders, packaging material, artwork proofs and documentation are all fine and we move them regularly. Solvents, acids, alcohol-based preparations, anything flammable, corrosive or carrying a hazard pictogram cannot go on this or any other network with an air leg — and the surface leg does not exempt them either. The workable rule is: send us the material safety data sheet and the invoice on WhatsApp before pickup. We will tell you yes or no in a few minutes, which is far better than having it rejected at sortation two days later with your project waiting.
At 1,000 km, is express really worth the extra over surface?
Often not, and we would rather say so. Surface is 2–3 working days on this lane and express is 1–2, so you are paying ₹180/kg instead of ₹120/kg to save roughly one day. For a Sankranti gift box or a carton of clothes, that is money spent on nothing. It is worth it in three situations: a plant breakdown where a machine is standing idle and a day of downtime costs more than the whole freight bill; a document with a filing or submission deadline; and anything booked during the October–December cyclone window, where the shorter the parcel's exposure to the coastal leg, the better. Tell us which of those you are in and we will recommend against express if you do not need it.
