02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, NH48 north into Gujarat, delivery across Vadodara's 390xxx pins and the estates around them.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Normally 60–90 minutes from the moment you call. The industrial north-west — Jalahalli and Yeshwanthpur — and the Mahadevapura and CV Raman Nagar side of the city account for most of what we lift on this route, because that is where Bengaluru's engineering, switchgear and instrumentation firms keep their offices and stores. The rider brings tape, bubble wrap and a weighing scale, and the carton is sealed and labelled at your table.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

The carton goes into DTDC's Bengaluru facility the evening you hand it across. Vadodara rides the daily western trunk, so there is a departure every night rather than every other night, and an afternoon handover normally catches that night's vehicle instead of losing a day standing at the origin hub.

STEP

NH48 line-haul.

North through Hubballi and Pune, across the Mumbai belt, then up the coastal stretch past Vapi and Surat. Vadodara is the second big Gujarat drop on this trunk, which is why it is quoted at 3–4 working days by surface while Ahmedabad, only a little further along the same road, is a 4–5 day lane. Air express leaves Kempegowda instead and lands in 2–3.

STEP

Vadodara delivery.

Last-mile off the Vadodara hub across the 390xxx city series — Alkapuri, Sayajigunj, Fatehgunj, Akota, Gotri, Manjalpur and the Old Padra Road stretch. Anything outside the city carries its own pin range and its own rules: the Makarpura and Nandesari estates work on gate passes with an afternoon cut-off, and the Dahej and Jambusar plants down the estuary are a separate run again. Tell us at booking which of the three you are sending to.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

The signed proof of delivery — a signature capture or a stamped slip, whichever the receiving address gives — reaches you on WhatsApp inside an hour of the handover.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Vadodara.

The invoice follows actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus whatever fuel surcharge applies the day you book. GST sits on top of that.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 3–4 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup costs nothing at any Bengaluru address on this lane once the parcel reaches 5 kg. Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — though this route inverts the usual warning — machined spares, castings and instrument housings are dense, so they bill on the scale rather than on the box, and a small heavy carton can cost more than a large light one. The other date to keep in mind is Navratri: for those nine nights the city effectively relocates to its garba grounds after dark, and evening attempts at residential addresses slip. Ask us to land it in the morning.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Vadodara

Engineering spares and test gear, campus parcels, and garba kit that flies ahead of the traveller.

Machine spares and switchgear parts

Vadodara is a transformer, switchgear and process-engineering town, and Bengaluru builds and stocks a great deal of what those plants consume — controller cards, relays, bearings, valve internals, gaskets, drive modules. These go up as small dense cartons from Jalahalli, Yeshwanthpur and the Mahadevapura belt, usually against a purchase order with a delivery date on it. Give us the plant name and gate number and we will time the drop to their receiving window.

Calibration and test instruments

Multimeters, pressure gauges, torque wrenches, loop calibrators and data loggers going up for service or coming back after it. These are fragile in a way that looks robust — the case survives, the calibration does not — so we double-box with foam and mark the carton for upright handling. Declare the instrument's value at booking rather than after something happens to it.

Documentation for the petrochemical belt

The plants at Nandesari, Dahej and Jambusar run on paper that has to arrive on a date: quality assurance plans, vendor drawings, weld and material test certificates, inspection releases, tender sets. Bengaluru's design and consulting offices post these constantly. Express with the recipient's mobile on the AWB, and tell us if there is a submission deadline attached — we will book air the same evening and send you the number in writing.

MS University parcels

The Maharaja Sayajirao University pulls students from across the country, and Bengaluru families with a child at MSU ship the predictable things — bedding and a quilt before winter, textbooks and drafting kits, a laptop, formal clothes ahead of placement season. Hostel addresses need the hall name and room number plus the student's own mobile, because a hostel office will not sign for a room it cannot identify.

Garba kit sent ahead of the traveller

Vadodara runs the largest garba in the country and a lot of Bengaluru's Gujarati families fly in for it. Rather than checking a stuffed suitcase, they post the kit a fortnight early: dandiya sticks, mirror-work jackets, kediyu, ghungroo anklets, dance shoes. Wooden dandiya sticks travel fine bundled and taped. Book surface by early September and it is waiting at the family house when you land.

Relocation cartons for transferred staff

People moving from a Bengaluru office to a Vadodara plant send the household ahead in stages — kitchen kit, books, a monitor, a fan, school records and mark sheets in a document sleeve. Consistently cheaper than paying airline excess on the same weight, and nothing to drag through the terminal. Number the cartons and we will book them on one AWB series so nothing gets separated.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first card is the standard network prohibition. The second is what actually gets attempted on this route, and almost all of it arrives inside an otherwise perfectly good engineering consignment:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of every kind — oils, solvents, thinners, gels
  • Aerosols, pressurised cans and gas cartridges
  • Paints, lacquers and industrial adhesives
  • Matches, lighters and flammable solids
  • Cash, bullion and precious metal
  • Perishables, fresh produce and live plants

Where Bengaluru → Vadodara bookings go wrong

  • Contact cleaner, lubricant and anti-corrosion sprays — the small tin that gets taped to the spare it belongs with. Pressurised cans are excluded on surface as well as air, and a single one turns the whole consignment into a refusal at screening. Send the part; the plant can buy the spray in Makarpura for less than the freight.
  • Two-part epoxy, potting compound and thread-lock kits — sample packs of these travel up this lane constantly and virtually none of it is shippable. They are classified chemicals. Email the technical data sheet and have the material sourced at the other end.
  • Oil drawn off for lab testing — transformer, gearbox and hydraulic oil in a sample bottle is still a liquid, sealed cap and tamper tape notwithstanding. Testing laboratories on this route receive samples through specialist chemical logistics, not through a parcel network.
  • Spare battery packs for cordless tools — the drill or the torque wrench travels with its pack fitted; the two spares in the same case do not. Lithium cells outside the equipment they power are refused, and this is the single most frequent hold-up on engineering freight leaving Bengaluru.
  • Snacks bagged warm from the counter — the festival-carton problem. Chakli, chips and murukku scooped into a paper bag at a Bengaluru shop are still weeping oil, and after three days in a carton they have soaked through it. Cooled, factory-sealed packs move up this lane in quantity and are no trouble at all.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The AWB number reaches you on WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked into DTDC, and you can check its position yourself at dtdc.in whenever you want; the POD image follows within the hour of delivery. Vadodara splits into two very different delivery problems. A residential address in Alkapuri, Gotri or Manjalpur is straightforward provided the recipient's mobile is on the docket, since most societies here hold parcels at the gate and expect the rider to phone up from there. A plant or estate address is a different exercise: the rider needs the unit name, the shed or plot number and the security gate, and every estate on this side runs an afternoon receiving cut-off after which the gate stops accepting freight. Miss it and the consignment waits until the next working morning.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Vadodara.

Can you deliver to a plant or a GIDC estate around Vadodara, not just a city address?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we move on this route. What makes it work is information given at booking rather than discovered at the gate. We need the unit's registered name, the plot or shed number, the estate — Makarpura, Nandesari, or further out at Dahej and Jambusar — and a mobile for the stores or security desk. Every one of those addresses runs a receiving cut-off in the afternoon, and a vehicle that arrives after it is turned away regardless of what is on the docket. For commercial goods a tax invoice must travel with the carton, and a consignment above the e-way-bill threshold needs that document generated before it moves; tell us the invoice value and we will flag it if yours qualifies. Note also that Dahej and Jambusar are outside the Vadodara city pin series and are quoted separately from a 390xxx address.

I'm flying to Vadodara for Navratri. Can I send my garba clothes and dandiya ahead?

Yes, and it is much the better plan than checking a bulging suitcase into Kempegowda on a festival weekend. Wooden dandiya sticks, a mirror-work jacket or kediyu, a chaniya choli, ghungroo anklets and dance shoes all travel without any trouble — bundle the sticks and tape them so they do not work loose inside the carton. Book surface with a clear fortnight in hand and it lands at the family house well before you do; inside a week, take express. What you must leave out of the box is the grooming kit that usually goes in beside the clothes: deodorant and body spray are pressurised cans, perfume is a flammable liquid, and either one will get the whole carton refused. Buy those in Vadodara.

Will a 10 kg box of spares be billed on weight or on size, and what will it cost?

On whichever is higher, and for spares it is almost always the weight — which is good news, because it means you are not paying for air. Surface starts at ₹120/kg, so 10 kg is from roughly ₹1,200 before the fuel surcharge and 18% GST, delivered in 3–4 working days; express starts at ₹180/kg, so the same box is from about ₹1,800 for a 2–3 day transit. The volumetric figure — (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 5000 — only overtakes the scale when you have packed a dense part into a much larger carton with a lot of void fill. Pack tight, use a box that fits the part, and send us the outside dimensions on WhatsApp before you seal it; we will tell you the billable number rather than let you find it on the invoice.

Send the pickup address and a rough weight on WhatsApp, or call and tell us. The Bengaluru desk is staffed 24×7, so a late pickup that still makes the same night's line-haul is ordinary here.
