Pack & document.
Contents declaration, sender KYC, and a commercial invoice where the parcel is commercial. Ask your consignee for their Emirates ID number and a UAE mobile before we come; both go on the booking and both shorten anything customs wants to ask.
BLR gateway.
Straight into the DTDC International facility and out through Kempegowda. Bengaluru–Dubai is one of the thickest air corridors in the world and BLR feeds it directly, so this parcel is not railed to Mumbai first the way it would be from an inland origin. The clock starts on day one, not day three.
UAE customs.
Clearance at Dubai or Abu Dhabi. It is quick by international standards — routine, honestly declared parcels typically move in 24–48 hours. What stalls is a vague declaration, an under-stated value on electronics, or a radio-transmitting device with no approval behind it.

Nothing we ship abroad is cheaper per kilo than this. Short air leg, several flights a day, a corridor DTDC has run for decades. Final price still depends on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.

A 2 kg parcel — say two packs of filter coffee powder, a bar set of sandalwood soap and a folded silk saree, around 30 × 25 × 12 cm:

- + GST 18%≈ ₹293

What we collect along with the parcel.
On a three-day lane the paperwork is almost the whole risk — a parcel held at Dubai for a badly written declaration loses more time than the flight ever takes. We settle all of it at your address, before the box is sealed.
KYC of the sender
One photo ID in the name that goes on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. Photographed at pickup and held only in DTDC's own booking record. If the shipper is a company, the GSTIN goes on instead.
Invoice, and the consignee's Emirates ID
Commercial goods need a printed invoice with items, quantities, values and HS codes. Personal shipments need a written declaration with an honest value. Either way, the recipient's Emirates ID number on the booking is the single most useful thing you can give us — UAE customs queries go to the consignee, and an unreachable consignee is how a fast lane turns slow.
Prescription, for medicines
The UAE health ministry is firm about what arrives by courier. Sealed strips only, a copy of the prescription showing the doctor's registration number, and the patient named. No liquids, no injectables, nothing controlled — and codeine-based cough and pain preparations that are ordinary over the counter here are not ordinary there.
What the UAE doesn’t let in.
These are UAE federal customs rules, not our own caution. Goods sent against them are seized and the sender rarely gets them back. We have listed them in the order a Bengaluru parcel actually gets caught by them.
Don’t even try
- Drones, and RF or radio-transmitting hardware without approval — the classic Bengaluru startup mistake. A prototype with an unapproved wireless module, a hobby drone, a signal repeater or a jammer will be held at Dubai. Type-approved consumer gear is fine; unbranded engineering samples are the ones that get pulled.
- Vapes, e-cigarettes, pods and vape liquid — restricted on the air leg and seized at the other end. Bengaluru senders ask about this more than any other electronic item.
- Poppy seeds — khus khus — treated as a narcotic precursor. Read the ingredient panel on any podi, garam masala or ready-mix before it goes in the box; a single spice packet listing poppy seed can hold the whole consignment.
- Anything alcoholic, in any concentration — bottles obviously, but also vanilla essence, alcohol-based perfume and deodorant, and hand sanitiser.
- All pork and pork-derived ingredients — including pork gelatin hidden in imported confectionery.
- CBD, cannabis and hemp derivatives — penalties in the UAE for narcotics are severe and apply to trace quantities. Do not test the boundary.
- Loose lithium cells, power banks, aerosols, pressurised cans — air-cargo rules. A battery sealed inside the device it powers is acceptable; a spare one in the same box is not.
Allowed with care
- Filter coffee powder and dry podis — the most-shipped food on this lane. Factory-sealed and ingredient-labelled clears easily; if it is home-ground, pack it in a sealed pouch and write the contents out on the declaration.
- Sealed Indian sweets, including milk-based — worth knowing, because senders assume the US ban applies everywhere. It does not. Sealed, labelled, shelf-stable mithai generally goes into the UAE. Loose sweets in a tin, dripping with ghee, are the ones that come back.
- Silk sarees, Mysore silk, wedding wear — no restriction. Declare a fair value; understating it is what invites an inspection.
- Sandalwood soap and powder — manufactured goods, no restriction. The oil is a liquid and stays behind.
- Laptops, phones and hardware samples — declare make, model, serial and honest value. Batteries installed in the device, nothing loose alongside.
- Attested certificates and legal originals — documents move fastest of anything on this lane.
Visa paperwork, coffee, and a workforce that moves both ways.
The UAE holds the largest Indian expatriate population anywhere, and Bengaluru contributes to it constantly — engineers, hospitality staff, finance and healthcare workers, plus the families they left behind. The traffic on this lane runs in both directions and never really stops.
Attested certificates for UAE employment
Degree certificates, marriage and birth certificates, experience letters — attested by the MEA and the UAE embassy and sent to an employer or a PRO in Dubai. A visa or a family-joining application usually waits on this envelope. Always express, always tracked, and tell us the deadline so we book against it.
Tech and hospitality families
Whitefield and Marathahalli households with a son in Dubai Internet City, a daughter in a Sharjah hospital, a brother in an Abu Dhabi hotel group. Clothing, medicines against prescription, school documents, and the ordinary things nobody bothers buying twice at Gulf prices.
Startup and D2C samples
The Gulf is the first export market most Bengaluru consumer brands try, and Dubai's free zones are where their distributor sits. Packaging mockups, retail samples, pre-launch hardware from Koramangala and HSR. Commercial invoice with HS codes, and if it is for a trade show tell us the hall date.
Ramadan and Eid parcels
The real seasonal peak on this lane, larger than Diwali. Clothing for the family, sealed sweets, dry fruit, gifts timed to land before the Eid holiday itself — when both customs and last-mile delivery slow to holiday hours. Book ten days ahead of Eid, not three.
Karnataka food that travels
Filter coffee powder above everything, then dry podis, chakli, kodubale, sealed mixture and banana chips. Bengaluru's Gulf families ask for these more than for anything else, and the UAE lets almost all of it in — the exceptions are on the list above and worth reading before you pack.
Wedding shipments and the return leg
Kanjeevaram and Mysore silk going out for weddings in Dubai and Sharjah, and blouse pieces coming back to Bengaluru for stitching. The same lane runs inbound too — dates, chocolate, perfume and duty-free goods from the Emirates to Bengaluru — and it prices the same way in reverse.

Because this lane is short, tracking sometimes shows a parcel landed in Dubai before you have finished telling the family it has left; the quiet gap, when it happens, is the customs window rather than the flight. My brother's Dubai address has no house number. What do I write on the AWB?
That is normal and it is the single most common address problem on this lane — most of the UAE does not use street-and-house-number addressing the way India does. What the driver actually needs is the building name, the flat number, the area (Karama, Al Nahda, Bur Dubai, Deira), the emirate, and above all a working UAE mobile number for the recipient. If your consignee can send you the Makani number for their building, add it — it is a ten-digit code that puts a delivery driver at the right entrance rather than the right street. A PO Box alone is fine for documents but not for a parcel someone has to sign for.
Can I send homemade podi and filter coffee to Dubai?
Yes, with one thing to check first. Filter coffee powder, dry chutney podis, chakli and sealed mixture all go into the UAE without trouble — this lane carries more of them than anything else. The catch is poppy seed. Khus khus is a narcotic precursor under UAE law and it appears in plenty of Indian masalas and some homemade podi recipes, so read the ingredient list or ask whoever ground it. Pack it sealed, write the contents out plainly on the declaration, and keep oil, ghee and wet chutney out of the box — moisture is a packing problem long before it is a customs one.
I'm shipping a hardware prototype with a Wi-Fi module to our Dubai distributor. Any problem?
Possibly, and it is worth a conversation before you pack. The UAE regulates radio-transmitting equipment, and an unbranded engineering sample with a wireless or Bluetooth module has none of the type-approval markings that a retail product carries. Finished consumer electronics clear routinely. A bare board, a repeater, an unapproved IoT device or anything resembling a drone can be held at Dubai pending approval, and that hold outlasts the three-day transit several times over. Tell us what is inside at booking — we will declare it properly and say so up front where the device genuinely needs clearance.
