Send a parcel from Bangalore to Thane. We pick up free.
About 1,015 kilometres up NH48 through Hubballi and Pune — 2–3 working days on DTDC surface, 1–2 by air express. Thane is its own 4006xx pin belt, not a suburb of the Mumbai booking. Free pickup anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, desk open 24×7.
Pickup across Bengaluru, NH48 to the Mumbai belt, delivery across Thane's own pin series.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Within 60–90 minutes across the core city. The east-side tech belt — Whitefield, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Sarjapur Road — carries most of this lane, and we ask for a two-hour window there because those runs cross the Outer Ring Road at its worst. Packing material, tape and a scale come with the rider.
Bengaluru sortation.
Same-evening handover into DTDC's Bengaluru facility. This is a high-frequency corridor with nightly departures, which is what keeps a thousand-kilometre run inside 2–3 working days on plain surface freight.
NH48 line-haul.
North through Hubballi, Belagavi and Pune, then over the ghat into the Mumbai metropolitan belt. Thane is fed from that hub. Express lifts out of Kempegowda instead and delivers in 1–2 working days, which is worth the difference when a document or a machine part has a date attached.
Thane delivery.
Last-mile across 400601 to 400615 and the surrounding series — Naupada, Panchpakhadi, Vartak Nagar, Wagle Estate, Kolshet and the length of Ghodbunder Road out to Kasarvadavali. Kalyan, Dombivli, Mira Road and Bhiwandi sit in different pin series and are separate lanes; give us the pin and we will quote the right one.
POD on WhatsApp.
Proof of delivery — the signed slip or signature image — is forwarded to you on WhatsApp within an hour of the parcel changing hands.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Thane.
Billing follows actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge applying on your booking date. GST is extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 2–3 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free anywhere inside Bengaluru on this lane from 5 kg upward. Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — relocation cartons and boxed monitors are where this bites hardest. In peak monsoon, water on the Thane–Mumbra stretch and around the creek can hold the last mile for a day even when the line-haul ran to time; the air leg is the safer choice through July and August.
Relocation cartons, corporate hardware, and Bengaluru professionals sending home to a Thane family.
Relocation and move-out cartons
The defining shipment on this lane. Bengaluru and the Mumbai metropolitan region trade people constantly, and a job change means books, kitchen kits, bedding, a monitor, a standing fan and a shoe rack going ahead of the person. Five or six cartons on surface freight is consistently cheaper than any packers quote for the same volume, and far cheaper than excess baggage. Read the restricted list before you tape a kitchen carton shut.
Corporate IT hardware and asset returns
Laptops, docking stations, monitors and test kit moving between a Bengaluru office and a Thane or Wagle Estate one, and machines going back to an employer after a resignation. We double-box, foam the corners and mark fragile. Tell us at booking that a laptop is inside so it is routed correctly on the battery rules.
Diwali faral and festival gifts
Bengaluru's Maharashtrian households ship home before Diwali, and the reverse of the classic faral parcel is what leaves here — sealed sweets and dry snacks, clothes, gift boxes for nieces and nephews, an envelope of photographs. Book in the week before the festival rush, not during it, and the 2–3 day surface window holds comfortably.
Machine spares and industrial samples
Wagle Estate and the industrial estates around it still run real manufacturing, and small spares, instrument parts, test samples and calibration items come up from Bengaluru units and vendors. Industrial addresses have gate cut-offs and often a stores window that closes mid-afternoon — tell us the cut-off and we will book to hit it.
Documents and property paperwork
Society share certificates, agreement copies, notarised affidavits, medical records and admission files travelling between family members in two cities. Always express, always with the recipient's mobile on the AWB, and always ask us for the AWB number in writing on WhatsApp so you have it if a deadline needs proving.
Dry South Indian provisions
Filter coffee powder, sambar and rasam podi, dry banana chips, sealed murukku and Mysore pak — a standing order in plenty of Thane kitchens with a Bengaluru relative. Sealed and dry is the whole test. Anything with oil pooling in the pack changes the answer.
A short, real list.
Standard network prohibitions first. The second card is aimed at the relocation cartons that dominate this lane — almost every refusal we see here comes out of a kitchen or a balcony being packed in a hurry:
Banned outright
- Liquids of every kind, sealed bottles included
- Aerosols, pressurised cans and gas cartridges
- Cosmetics, nail polish and fragrance samples
- Matches, lighters and flammable solids
- Currency notes and gold or silver bullion
- Perishable food and anything requiring refrigeration
What gets packed into a move and shouldn't
- Pest sprays, room fresheners and cleaning aerosols — the pressurised can under every kitchen sink. Pulled at screening every time, and it delays the whole carton, not just the can.
- Camping gas cartridges, portable stove canisters and spare lighters — common in a bachelor move-out from the Whitefield and Marathahalli PG belt, and absolutely not carriable.
- Half-used paint, thinner, adhesive and turpentine tins — a leftover from doing up the flat you are leaving. Flammable solvents are excluded on both surface and air.
- Balcony plants and cuttings in soil — people are genuinely attached to them and ask every month. Live plants and soil are perishable cargo, they will not survive a 2–3 day carton, and the network does not accept them.
- Loose power banks and spare lithium cells — buried in a cable pouch inside a bigger carton is exactly how these travel undeclared. A device with the battery sealed inside is fine on surface; a bare cell or power bank is not.
- Wet chutney, gojju and pickle in oil — the dry masala packets from the same shelf are perfectly shippable; the wet jars are not.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
The AWB number reaches you on WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked into DTDC; check it yourself any time at dtdc.in, and the POD image follows within an hour of delivery. Thane's last mile has one dominant quirk: the Ghodbunder Road corridor is wall-to-wall gated townships, and the security desk stops the rider at the main gate rather than letting him reach a flat door. Give us the recipient's mobile without fail, and add the wing or tower letter and the flat number — "A-1204, Tower 3" gets delivered, a bare society name does not. Where a society insists on parcels being left at the gate or a collection desk, we can note that instruction on the AWB if you tell us in advance.
Specific to Bangalore → Thane.
Isn't Thane just part of Mumbai — can I book it as a Mumbai parcel?
It reads that way on a map and it does not work that way on a waybill. Thane is its own municipal corporation with its own pin series, mainly 400601 to 400615, and it is delivered as its own lane off the Mumbai metropolitan network rather than as part of the Mumbai city booking. Practically, the distance and transit are almost identical — about 1,015 km and 2–3 working days on surface against Mumbai's 985 km and the same 2–3 — so you lose nothing by booking it correctly, and you avoid the re-rating and the extra day that a mis-addressed parcel picks up when it has to be pushed out to the right hub. Kalyan, Dombivli, Mira Road and Bhiwandi are further out again on different pin series and are quoted separately.
Can you deliver inside a gated township on Ghodbunder Road?
Yes, and it is a large share of what we deliver in Thane — Kasarvadavali, Owale, Waghbil, Kolshet and the Hiranandani Estate side. What makes it work is the address detail. Give us the tower or wing letter, the flat number, the society name and a mobile that will be answered, because the rider is stopped at the security cabin and phones up from there. If nobody answers, most desks will not accept a parcel on a resident's behalf, and it goes back to the hub for the next working day. If your recipient is out at work all day, tell us and we will note a preferred delivery window or a gate-collection instruction on the AWB when you book.
I'm relocating from Bangalore to Thane. How much household stuff can I actually courier?
As much as you like by weight — there is no upper limit, and past 35 kg you move onto the bulk rate at ₹120/kg, so a six-carton move is usually the cheapest way to shift a one-bedroom flat's contents. Two things decide the bill. First, volumetric weight: (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 5000, which on light bulky cartons of clothes and bedding is almost always the number you get charged on. Second, what you leave out. Kitchen and balcony cartons are where refusals happen — no aerosols, no gas canisters, no paint or solvent tins, no oil bottles, no plants in soil. Pack those separately and carry them, or replace them at the other end. Send us the carton count and rough dimensions on WhatsApp and we will give you the billed weight before the rider arrives.
Tell us the rough weight. We'll come back in minutes.
