Send a parcel from Bangalore to Saharanpur. We pick up free.
About 2,380 kilometres north into the 247xxx pin series — 5–6 working days on DTDC surface, 3–4 by air express. Saharanpur sits where Uttar Pradesh meets Uttarakhand and Haryana, and it lives off wood carving, paper and sugarcane. Free pickup anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, booked round the clock.
Collected from south Bengaluru's furnishing belt, hauled north, delivered at a three-state junction.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Sixty to ninety minutes in the core city, with a two-hour window on the outer stretches. This lane is booked heavily from the south and west furnishing belt — JP Nagar, Kanakapura Road, Uttarahalli, Banashankari and the interior workshops off the Outer Ring Road on that side — where the pickup is usually a showroom, a designer's studio or a carpentry workshop rather than a home. Tell us if a piece needs crating and the rider brings materials for it.
Bengaluru sortation.
Booked into DTDC's Bengaluru facility the same evening it is collected. Crated and oversized items are the ones that most reward an early handover — they are measured and re-measured at sortation, and a late arrival on a bulky box is the classic way to lose a night on a lane that is already among our longest.
Trunk run north.
The long haul up through central India into the northern network, then out to the top of the Uttar Pradesh plain. Roughly 2,380 kilometres, 5–6 working days on surface, 3–4 on the air leg. This is one of the longest surface routes we quote, and at this distance an extra ₹60 a kilo for air buys back two full working days — worth it on anything with a fitting, an installation or an inspection date attached.
Saharanpur delivery.
Last mile across the 247xxx series. Court Road, Delhi Road, Ambala Road and the Civil Lines side are ordinary door deliveries. The wood market and the carving workshops around Chilkana Road, Khata Kheri and the old bazaar lanes are walk-in territory where a workshop is known by its owner's name. The paper-mill and industrial addresses receive at a stores gate. Deoband, Nakur, Gangoh and Behat are separate towns in the district and sit on their own beat — allow an extra day.
POD on WhatsApp.
Once the consignment is signed for, the proof of delivery — a signature image or a stamped and dated slip — reaches your WhatsApp, usually within the hour.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Saharanpur.
Billed on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, with the fuel surcharge applying on your booking date added to it. GST is extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 5–6 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 3–4 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free everywhere in Bengaluru on this route for anything 5 kg and heavier, workshops and showrooms included. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H in centimetres) ÷ 5000, and this is the lane where it matters most: carved wood is large, hollow and comparatively light, so a jaali screen or a crated table top will almost always bill on its measured size rather than on the scale. Crate tight to the piece — every centimetre of empty timber frame is billable air. Winter fog at the top of the plain from mid-December through January regularly takes a day off the surface leg.
Carved wood in both directions, mill spares for the crushing season, and workforce parcels.
Carved sheesham panels, jaali screens and table tops
The signature cargo. Saharanpur is India's wood-carving capital, and Bengaluru's interior designers, furniture retailers and hospitality projects buy carved panels, jaali screens, bed heads, door leaves and table tops from its workshops. These need crating rather than boxing: a timber frame with corner protection and full-face board, never a carton on its own. Carved edges and pierced work are the first thing to chip, so the crate has to carry the load, not the carving.
Small carved goods and gift lines
The lighter half of the same trade — boxes, trays, coasters, nameplates, carved bowls, chess sets and inlaid pieces going to Bengaluru gift retailers and online furnishing brands, and sample pieces going back north with change notes. Wrap individually so carved surfaces cannot rub, and number each piece against the sample sheet so the workshop can identify a return without opening it.
Drawings, hardware and finish samples going north
The outbound leg from a Bengaluru design office: dimensioned drawings, CAD prints, site measurement sheets, brass and iron hardware, hinges, handles, upholstery swatches and stain and finish references sent so a Saharanpur workshop can produce to specification. Cheap and light, and almost always worth express — an approval sitting six days in transit stalls a workshop that has already cleared the bench for your job.
Sugar-mill and boiler spares
The districts around Saharanpur are deep sugarcane country and the mills run a crushing season that broadly spans the winter months. During it a mill cannot afford downtime, so bearings, valves, instrumentation, gaskets and control cards move north on express the same day they are ordered. Tell us it is a breakdown item at booking and we will book the air leg and flag it for a call-ahead on arrival rather than a routine attempt.
Paper-trade samples and packaging references
Saharanpur has a long-established paper industry, and the sample traffic that goes with it moves by courier — board and grade samples, test reports, printed proofs, die-line and carton mock-ups exchanged with Bengaluru packaging buyers and print firms. Flat, light and volumetric almost every time, so send a tube or a shallow rigid box rather than a large one padded with air.
Parcels home from the western UP workforce
Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli send a steady stream of workers to Bengaluru's construction, hospitality and security work, and the quiet half of this lane is what goes back — clothes, a phone bought here, a quilt before the northern winter, medicines with a prescription copy, sealed dry snacks for Eid and Diwali. Free collection from a PG, a shared room or a site accommodation address anywhere in the city.
A short, real list.
Network prohibitions first. The second card is written for a wood and cane town, because on this route the refusals nearly all come out of a finishing shed or a sugar belt:
Banned outright
- Liquids of any kind, sealed tins included
- Aerosols, pressurised cans and gas cartridges
- Flammable solids, matches and lighters
- Corrosives and industrial chemicals
- Currency notes, bullion and precious stones
- Perishables and anything needing refrigeration
The Saharanpur-specific list
- Spirit-based French polish, shellac cut in alcohol and wood stain — the finishing materials that travel with carved wood almost by habit. All are flammable liquids, all are excluded from courier carriage, and one leaking tin condemns the whole consignment including the piece it was sent to protect. Send the finished sample and the shade reference; the polish is available at both ends.
- Contact adhesive, solvent-based sealer and synthetic resin glue — the carpentry bench standards. Water-based white wood glue is not the problem; contact cement and anything with a solvent carrier is, and it is refused on surface as firmly as on air.
- Wood preservative and anti-termite treatment — sent with panels headed for a humid Bengaluru site, and refused every time. These are pesticide formulations, and pesticides are outside courier carriage regardless of the size of the bottle.
- Raw timber, logs and unseasoned wood — sheesham billets, offcuts and green wood. These are freight, not parcels: they are heavy, they shed, and unseasoned wood can arrive mouldy after five days in a closed vehicle. Finished and seasoned articles are perfectly fine.
- Fresh gur, rab and sugarcane juice — the sugar belt's own produce, and a standing request in the crushing months. Juice and rab are liquids; loose gur softens and welds itself to everything in the carton over a long summer transit. Factory-sealed, shelf-stable jaggery in a sealed pack is a different matter and travels without trouble.

The AWB reaches your WhatsApp the moment the consignment is booked into DTDC, tracking is live at dtdc.in at any hour, and we forward the POD image within about an hour of the signature. Saharanpur's last mile has one quirk worth knowing before anything else: the 247 pin series does not stop at the state line. Roorkee, which is in Uttarakhand, sits in the same 247 range, so a pin code alone is not proof that an address is a Saharanpur address — always send the town name with it and we will confirm which lane it belongs to before pickup. Beyond that, the city divides in the usual way. Court Road, Ambala Road, Delhi Road and the Civil Lines colonies deliver on a house number and a phone. The carving workshops off Chilkana Road and in the old bazaar lanes are too tight for a delivery vehicle and are identified by the owner's name and the mohalla, so give us both. Mill and industrial addresses receive at a stores gate on fixed goods-inward hours, with the plot number, the firm's registered name and the stores contact's mobile. And a crated consignment needs somebody at the far end who can take a crate off a trolley — say so at booking if there will not be.
Specific to Bangalore → Saharanpur.
How is a carved jaali screen or a table top charged, and how do you crate it?
On its size, almost certainly. You are billed on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, and volumetric is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5000. Carved wood is the textbook case where the box wins: a pierced screen 180 cm by 90 cm by 10 cm measures out at around 32 kg volumetric even though the piece itself might weigh half that, and the crate adds to those dimensions rather than to the scale. Two consequences. First, crate tight — a generous frame with 10 cm of clearance on every face can add a third to the bill for nothing. Second, ask us before the piece is packed rather than after: send the finished dimensions on WhatsApp and we will give you the billed weight, and if the number is uncomfortable we can often tell you how to re-crate to bring it down. Crating itself is not optional on a 2,380 km road journey — a timber frame with corner protection and a full-face board on the carved side is what keeps pierced work intact, and a carton alone will not.
Saharanpur is right on three state borders. Which nearby towns are included, and which are not?
Deoband, Nakur, Gangoh, Behat, Sarsawa and the villages of the district are all served on a Saharanpur booking, but they sit outside the city beat and typically add a working day, so tell us the town at booking rather than after the parcel is on the road. What is not included is anything across a state line, and this lane has more of those than most: Yamunanagar and Jagadhri are in Haryana, Roorkee and Haridwar are in Uttarakhand, and each is quoted on its own lane at its own distance. The trap is the pin code. Roorkee shares the 247 series with Saharanpur district despite being in a different state, so "247" on an address proves nothing on its own. Send us the town name and the full six digits together and we will confirm the correct lane and rate before the rider comes out, which is a great deal cheaper than discovering it at the far end.
We supply spares to a sugar mill in the district. Does the crushing season change how we should book?
Completely, and it is worth planning around. Through the crushing months a mill is running continuously and a stopped machine costs it far more than the freight on the part, so anything that could be a breakdown item should be booked on the air leg — 3–4 working days instead of 5–6 — and told to us as urgent so we can flag it for a call-ahead at the gate rather than a routine delivery attempt. Out of season the calculus reverses: planned maintenance spares, overhaul kits and consumables should be consolidated and sent surface, and once a consignment crosses 35 kg it moves onto the bulk band at ₹120/kg, so one heavy crate is materially cheaper than four separate boxes across a month. Two operational notes either way. Mill stores work to fixed goods-inward hours that usually close well before the shift does, so we need the stores contact's mobile on the waybill. And the commercial paperwork — tax invoice inside and outside the crate, and the e-way bill where the consignment value crosses ₹50,000 — is raised on your GSTIN as consignor, not on ours as carrier.
