02 — How this lane runs

Five steps from your Bengaluru door to a Philippine barangay.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Free at 5 kg+, at any hour. We arrive with packing material and the international airway bill. This is the longest lane in our Southeast Asia set, so a same-night collection genuinely buys you something on the calendar.

STEP

Pack & document.

Contents declaration, sender KYC, commercial invoice with HS codes for anything commercial, and the recipient's full Philippine address including the barangay. That last field is not optional in practice, whatever the form says.

STEP

BLR gateway.

Into the DTDC International facility and out through Kempegowda. Bengaluru's own international capacity avoids the overland leg to Mumbai or Delhi, though the Philippines is reached by connection rather than a straight run, which is most of why this band is longer than the Singapore one.

STEP

Bureau of Customs.

Clearance at NAIA. The BOC is more permissive on what it allows than the strict ASEAN states, but it is slower to process, and congestion at Manila is a real and recurring factor. Complete paperwork is the only lever anyone has on it.

STEP

Doorstep delivery.

Last mile in Metro Manila and the surrounding provinces. Cebu, Davao and the wider archipelago add a day or two after clearance. POD to you on WhatsApp the same day it is signed.

03 — Rate band, Bangalore → Philippines

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

Billing runs on the higher of scale weight and volumetric weight, then the current international fuel surcharge, then GST. On this lane the volumetric number wins more often than senders expect.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (7–10 days, door)from ₹1,100 / kg
  • Economy (10–15 days, door)from ₹850 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from BengaluruFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric: multiply length, width and height in cm, then divide by 5000.

Worked example

A 4 kg parcel — say clothing, sealed dry snacks and a couple of small gifts for a family in Quezon City, about 40 × 30 × 25 cm:

  • Volumetric6 kg (volumetric billed, not the 4 kg on the scale)
  • Express, 6 kg × ₹1,100≈ ₹6,600
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹1,650
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹1,485
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹9,735

Indicative only, and deliberately chosen to show the trap: a big light carton bills on its dimensions. Let us measure before you pack. Philippine duty and VAT, where chargeable, are settled by the consignee.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

The Bureau of Customs will accept a wider range of goods than most of the region, but it is slower to move them, and an incomplete document set on a Manila-bound parcel costs more days than it would anywhere else in this batch.

KYC of the sender

One government photo ID for the person whose name goes on the airway bill — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. Photographed at pickup and not retained beyond DTDC's own record. Company shipments: GSTIN alongside it.

Invoice, value and the allowance

The Philippines exempts imports below a published low-value threshold from duty and tax, and a normal family parcel often sits under it. Commercial consignments rarely do. Either way, a printed invoice with line items, quantity, unit value and HS codes is what gets the parcel assessed quickly instead of set aside — and for a business consignee, their TIN on the invoice helps materially.

The address, in full, with the barangay

Philippine addresses run unit or house number, street, subdivision, barangay, city or municipality, province, then a four-digit ZIP. The barangay is the one foreign senders leave out and the one the last-mile rider needs most — Metro Manila has hundreds of them and street names repeat across cities. A Philippine mobile number for the recipient is equally non-negotiable.

05 — Philippines-specific restrictions

What the Philippines doesn’t let in.

The Bureau of Customs publishes a prohibited and regulated list that is shorter than Singapore's or Indonesia's, but the enforcement of value and description is close. These are Philippine rules rather than our caution.

Don’t even try

  • Controlled drugs — trafficking and possession both carry heavy sentences. Prescription medicines travel only with the documentation described above.
  • Obscene and pornographic material — prohibited outright.
  • Firearms, ammunition, replicas and certain bladed weapons — refused, and decorative or ceremonial pieces are not treated as an exception.
  • Counterfeit branded goods and pirated media — seized, and IP enforcement at Manila is active.
  • Gambling machines, devices and paraphernalia — a specific entry on the Philippine prohibited list that catches people shipping games and novelty items.
  • Misbranded or adulterated food, drugs and cosmetics — the FDA Philippines framework applies to anything entering the market, and unregistered products for sale fall foul of it.
  • Used clothing in commercial quantity — importing second-hand clothing for sale is restricted under long-standing Philippine law. A few personal garments for a relative are not what this is about; a carton of stock is.
  • Aerosols, liquids, lithium cells above 100 Wh — universal air-safety and courier limits.

Allowed with care

  • Filter coffee powder and sealed dry snacks — factory-packed, ingredients printed, sensible quantity for personal use. Food entering commercially is a separate exercise and needs the importer's FDA registration.
  • Silk sarees, textiles and new clothing — new garments for personal use are routine. Declare item, quantity and a fair value.
  • Sandalwood soap and powder — manufactured goods, no difficulty. The oil is a liquid and does not fly.
  • Books, documents and printed material — straightforward; declare titles and value.
  • Christian devotional items — the Philippines is overwhelmingly Catholic and religious articles arrive without friction. Carved and embroidered pieces from Indian workshops are a genuine market there.
  • Laptops, dev boards and hardware samples — declare make, model and value honestly. Battery installed inside the device; loose cells and power banks do not travel.
06 — What goes Bangalore → Philippines

A BPO corridor, and Filipino colleagues sending home.

Bengaluru and Manila have spent twenty years in the same industry, often in the same companies, and that is what fills this lane. It is the least diaspora-driven of our Southeast Asia routes and the most work-driven.

Filipino professionals living in Bengaluru

Trainers, team leads, hospitality and BPO staff posted to Bengaluru, sending money's worth home rather than money — clothing, small electronics, toys, chocolates, things for a nephew's birthday. The tradition they are used to is the balikbayan box, and it is worth understanding how that does and does not apply here; see the FAQ below, because the answer is more useful than a yes or a no.

Delivery-centre and BPO shipments

Bengaluru companies with Manila delivery centres move headsets, laptops, ID kits, training material and process documentation on this lane constantly. Commercial invoice with HS codes, consignee company TIN, asset serial numbers listed where they exist — an equipment consignment with serials on the invoice clears far more calmly than one described as "IT items".

Corporate documents and contracts

Signed agreements, apostilled corporate papers, audit files and compliance packs between Bengaluru head offices and Philippine entities. Always express, always tracked, and tell us the deadline — on a 7–10 day lane a document sent late cannot be rescued by paying more.

Product samples for Philippine buyers

D2C brands, packaging companies and hardware startups in Koramangala, HSR Layout and Whitefield sending first samples to Manila distributors. Declare properly and expect the consignee to be asked for their TIN. Build clearance time into any date you promise a buyer.

Devotional and craft consignments

Carved pieces, embroidered altar cloths and brass work from Indian workshops going to Manila and Cebu retailers. The Catholic market there is enormous and the goods are uncontroversial at the border; the paperwork is the only variable.

Family and student parcels

A smaller flow — Indian families with relatives in Makati and BGC, and students at the Manila universities. Sealed dry food, festival clothing, books. Send well ahead of any date that matters, because this lane has the least slack in it of anything we run to the region.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The AWB comes to you on WhatsApp the moment the parcel enters DTDC International, at any hour, because the HSR Layout desk is staffed around the clock. Track it at dtdc.in. Expect this lane to be quieter for longer than the others in the batch — there is a connection stop on the way, Manila clearance is slow by regional standards, and neither of those generates a scan. The one status worth reacting to is a request for information, which on this route usually means a missing barangay, a missing recipient phone number or a value query. Forward us the AWB and we take it from there. POD within the hour of delivery.

08 — Three questions about Philippines shipments

Asked most often on this lane.

I'm Filipino, working in Bangalore. Can I send a balikbayan box home?

The privilege exists and you may well qualify for it, but a courier parcel is not automatically a balikbayan box, so it is worth being clear about the difference. Philippine law allows a qualified Filipino abroad to send home a box of personal and household effects free of duty and tax, within a value ceiling and a limited number of boxes a year — and a Filipino national living and working in Bengaluru is abroad for that purpose. What the privilege requires is that the shipment is lodged as a balikbayan box, with the information sheet, proof of your status and the goods declared as personal effects not in commercial quantity, and that it goes through a channel accredited for it. What we book is a standard DTDC International consignment: reliable, tracked, door to door, and assessed on the ordinary rules. For a modest parcel that is often the simpler and faster answer, because normal low-value shipments are exempt from duty anyway. For a full carton of household goods, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether a dedicated consolidator is the better route for that particular box.

Why is Manila 7–10 days when Singapore is 4–6?

Two reasons, and neither of them is the airline. The first is geography: there is no straight run from Bengaluru, so the parcel connects on the way, and every connection is a handling point that can add half a day. The second is the destination: Manila's Bureau of Customs is slower than Changi or Suvarnabhumi and congestion at NAIA is a recurring reality rather than an occasional one. Cebu, Davao and the provincial addresses add another day or two of domestic movement after clearance. We quote 7–10 working days because that is what the lane does. If someone quotes you four days into Manila, ask them what happens on day five.

My parcel to Quezon City is showing as undeliverable. What went wrong?

Nine times out of ten it is the address rather than the parcel. Philippine addressing depends on the barangay — the smallest administrative unit — and Metro Manila has hundreds of them with street names that repeat across cities and subdivisions. A parcel addressed to a street and a city, with no barangay, gives the rider nothing to work with. The second most common cause is a missing or wrong recipient mobile number, because riders there confirm by call before they travel. Both are fixable mid-journey: send us the AWB with the complete address and a working Philippine mobile and we will get the correction pushed through the network. It costs a day or two, which is why we ask for the barangay at pickup rather than after.
