Kuwait sits at the top of the Gulf band at ₹750 a kilo, a little above Qatar and Saudi Arabia, mostly because of clearance and last-mile handling rather than distance. What we need from you before the carton is taped.
Kuwait rewards a parcel that is described precisely and punishes one described loosely. All of the following is completed at your Bengaluru address, before the carton is sealed and while anything questionable can still come out of it.
KYC of the sender
A photo ID matching the name on the airway bill — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence — photographed at pickup and held only in DTDC's booking record. Company shippers give the GSTIN and the registered trade name.
Invoice, and the consignee's Civil ID
Commercial goods need a printed invoice with descriptions, quantities, HS codes and honest values. Personal shipments need a written declaration, itemised. The recipient's Civil ID number and a Kuwaiti mobile belong on the booking — clearance queries in Kuwait are put to the consignee, and a parcel whose consignee cannot be reached goes nowhere quietly.
Prescription, for medicines
Kuwait's health ministry expects medicine to arrive as sealed strips with a prescription copy showing the doctor's registration number and the patient named. Personal quantities, nothing controlled, no syrups or injectables. This is a heavy lane for medicines and it is also the item most often held, so we check it item by item.
What Kuwait doesn’t let in.
Kuwait is a dry state in the fullest sense — unlike the UAE, Qatar or Oman, there is no licensed retail channel for alcohol anywhere in the country, and customs enforces that against traces as well as bottles. The rest of the list is Kuwaiti customs policy stated plainly.
Don’t even try
- Anything containing alcohol, at any strength — the single most common seizure on this lane, and rarely a bottle. It is the vanilla essence in a baking hamper, the eau de parfum in a gift set, the aftershave, the mouthwash, the alcohol hand rub, the rose or kewra water with a spirit base. Read every label in a mixed carton.
- Pork and all pork-derived ingredients — including gelatin in confectionery and capsule shells.
- E-cigarettes, vape devices and vape liquid — prohibited in Kuwait and refused on the air leg.
- Counterfeit and lookalike branded goods — Kuwait enforces against these more actively than its neighbours. A copy handbag or an unbranded charger sold as a brand-name one is seized, and the sender's name is on the AWB when it happens.
- Poppy seeds — khus khus — treated as a narcotic precursor. Check masala and ready-mix ingredient panels before packing.
- Narcotics, cannabis, CBD and hemp products — penalties are severe; nothing ambiguous should travel.
- Material offensive to Islam, gambling articles, Israeli-origin goods — withheld at customs.
- Aerosols, pressurised cans, loose lithium cells and power banks — air-cargo rules, applied everywhere.
Allowed with care
- Sealed dry food — filter coffee powder, poppy-free podis, chakli, mixture, dry fruit, factory-sealed sweets. Milk solids are not the barrier here that they are in the West; alcohol in a recipe absolutely is.
- School and academic material — CBSE textbooks, workbooks, stationery, reference sets. Routine, high-volume, and one of the easiest things on this lane.
- Prescription tablets — sealed strip, prescription copy, consignee's Civil ID, sensible quantity.
- Silk sarees, salwar sets, children's festival clothing — unrestricted. Declare a value that matches what it is worth.
- Attested documents and legal originals — transfer certificates, degrees, marriage and birth certificates, signed contracts.
- Genuine electronics with their invoices — make, model and serial declared, retail packaging kept, battery inside the device.
A settled community, its schools, and its medicine cabinet.
Kuwait's Indian community is one of the oldest in the Gulf and it lives there rather than passing through — three generations in Salmiya, Abbasiya and Fahaheel, children in Indian-curriculum schools, parents who fly back to Bengaluru for treatment. The parcels reflect settled life, not a posting.
Medicines and follow-up prescriptions
The heaviest recurring category on this lane. A parent treated in Bengaluru goes back to Kuwait and needs the same tablets in the same brand; a family here sends a three-month refill to a grandparent in Hawally. Sealed strips, prescription copy, Civil ID on the booking, personal quantities only — done that way it moves without fuss, and done casually it sits at customs.
School textbooks and transfer certificates
Kuwait runs a large network of Indian-curriculum schools, and Bengaluru supplies both the books and the paperwork. CBSE sets and workbooks before the academic year, transfer certificates and mark sheets when a family relocates — often attested, always urgent, and small enough that express is barely more expensive than economy.
Documents for residency and family visas

I'm sending a gift hamper with perfume and baking things. Is that a problem in Kuwait?
Yes, and this is the mistake that costs Bengaluru senders more parcels to Kuwait than any other. Kuwait prohibits alcohol completely — there is no licensed shop, no permitted personal quantity, and customs applies the rule to alcohol as an ingredient, not only as a drink. So the eau de parfum in the gift set, the vanilla extract in the baking box, the aftershave, the mouthwash and the alcohol-based hand rub are all liable to be pulled, and once one item is pulled the whole carton is opened and delayed. Send alcohol-free vanilla, attar or oil-based perfume rather than spirit-based scent, and read the label on anything liquid before it goes in. If you are unsure about a specific product, photograph the ingredient panel and send it to us before the pickup.
How much medicine can I send my parents in Salmiya, and what has to go with it?
Send a personal-use quantity — a two or three month supply for one named patient reads as personal; a carton of the same strip does not. What must go with it: the medicines in their original sealed strips with the batch and expiry visible, a copy of the prescription showing the prescribing doctor's registration number and the patient's name, and the consignee's Civil ID number on the booking so Kuwaiti customs can verify who is receiving it. Leave out anything liquid, anything injectable, and anything sedative or narcotic-classed even with a valid Indian prescription. If the same refill goes out every quarter, tell us — we keep the consignee details on file and each subsequent booking takes a few minutes.
Can I send my son's CBSE books and school transfer certificate together?
You can, and it is a common enough combination that it is worth packing thoughtfully. Books are unrestricted, so declare them as textbooks with a fair value and pack them tightly in a small double-wall carton — loose books in an oversized box get billed on volume and arrive with damaged corners. The transfer certificate and mark sheets are the part that actually matters, so put them in a rigid document sleeve at the top of the carton rather than loose between the books, and photograph every page before it is sealed. Where the school in Kuwait has asked for attested copies, get the attestation done before you book: sending the file twice costs more than the freight on either trip.
