Showrooms close late and so do we: an 8 or 9 PM collection after the shutters come down is a normal booking here. Tell us if a fabric roll is going and the rider brings a long tube box rather than folding yardage that should not be folded.
Bengaluru sortation.
The consignment is handed into DTDC’s Bengaluru facility the same evening it is collected. Catching that night’s northbound departure rather than the next one is worth arranging your day around — on a 1,920-kilometre run, an hour of delay at this end is a full working day at the other.
Western trunk haul.
North through Pune and the Mumbai belt, up the Gujarat corridor, then west off the Ahmedabad line across Pali and the Marwar plain. Surface covers it in 4–5 working days. The air leg out of Kempegowda brings it down to 2–3, which is the routing we suggest whenever a workshop is holding production waiting for your sample.
Jodhpur delivery.
Last-mile off the Jodhpur hub across the 342xxx pins. Sardarpura, Ratanada, Shastri Nagar and the Chopasni Road side are ordinary door deliveries. The handicraft and furniture estates — Basni, Boranada and the Salawas side — behave like factory addresses instead, with a gate and a stores window. Inside the old walled city near the Clock Tower and Sardar Market, the lanes take a two-wheeler and nothing larger, and delivery realistically happens in the morning trading hours.

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — the number that decides the bill on upholstery rolls, cane and rattan samples and boxed light fittings, all of which measure far larger than they weigh. One seasonal caution worth planning around: through May and June the Marwar belt runs past 45°C, and anything wax-based, shellac-based or adhesive-backed can arrive soft on a surface run.

Studios here ship approved fabric to the workshop rather than letting it be sourced locally — cut lengths of linen and velvet, a leatherette roll, tape and piping trim, and the signed swatch card that the maker matches against. Send it rolled on a tube, not folded, and tell us the length so the right box travels with the rider.
Hardware, fittings and finish panels
Brass knobs and pulls, iron strap hinges, castors, drawer runners, a sample of the exact stain or distress finish the client approved. This is small, dense, high-value cargo — a shoebox of solid brass fittings can bill 12 kg — so it is one of the few consignments on this route where actual weight beats volumetric comfortably.
Drawings, shop orders and signed quotations
Printed general-arrangement drawings, dimensioned shop sheets, the countersigned quotation and the advance receipt that lets a workshop start cutting. Express, with the recipient’s mobile written on the AWB. We send you the AWB number in writing on WhatsApp, which is useful when a production slot depends on when the paperwork actually landed.
Pieces going back for rework or finish matching
A chair that arrived in Bengaluru with the wrong finish, a cabinet door that has to be re-stained, a drawer front that split in the dry season. It goes back to the same atelier and comes down again finished. Photograph the fault before we seal it, keep the original delivery challan inside the carton, and put a copy in a pouch taped to the outside.
Exhibition stock returning to the supplier
Bengaluru’s lifestyle and home exhibitions run hard through the winter, and the unsold half of a Jodhpur supplier’s stall goes home afterwards — reproduction boxes, mirrors in frames, iron and mango-wood accents. Where interiors bookings go wrong
- Polish, lacquer and PU tins sent with the sample — the single commonest refusal on this route. A designer wants the workshop to use the exact finish, so a litre of polyurethane or a can of wood stain goes in beside the swatch. It is a flammable liquid and the whole consignment stops with it. Send the finish panel; let the maker buy the tin.
- Aerosol spray paint and primer cans — excluded on surface as well as air. Pressurised containers are not a routing question, they are simply out.
- Contact adhesive, thinner and solvent-based glue — synthetic-rubber adhesive is flammable liquid by classification even when the tin is unopened and packed upright in a box.
- Cordless tool battery packs and loose 18 V cells — a drill or a sander going up for a site fit-out has to travel without its batteries. A battery sealed inside a device can be routed on surface; a spare pack in the same carton cannot.
- Mirror and glass sample panels — not prohibited, but no courier network carries meaningful liability on glass, and a 1,920-kilometre road run is the wrong place to test it. Ship the frame, source the glass in Jodhpur, and if a mirror truly must travel, say so before pickup so we can crate it and you can decide about cover.
- Wax blocks, shellac flakes and candle samples in summer — the Thar heat between April and June does what you would expect to anything with a low melting point sitting in a surface vehicle.

Your AWB number is sent to you on WhatsApp the moment the consignment is booked into DTDC, and every scan is public — look it up yourself at dtdc.in whenever you want a position. The POD image follows within an hour of handover. The address habit that decides first-attempt delivery here is naming the right person. Workshops in Boranada, Salawas and the Basni estates are known locally by the proprietor’s name far more than by a plot number, so write both — the registered unit name, the plot or shed number, and the karigar or supervisor who will actually take the carton, with a mobile that is answered during working hours. For a residential address in Sardarpura or Ratanada a phone number is enough. For anything inside the walled city, a landmark beats a street name every time.

Can I send fabric, fittings and a tin of the approved polish together in one consignment?
The fabric and the fittings, yes. The polish, no — and this is worth understanding before you pack rather than after the rider has left. Wood stain, polyurethane, lacquer and thinner are all flammable liquids under the same classification that keeps perfume and sanitiser off a courier network, and a single tin taints the whole booking: the consignment is held, not just the tin. What works in practice is to send a finished sample panel showing the exact colour and sheen you have approved, with the product name and code written on the back, and let the Jodhpur workshop buy the material there. If a shade genuinely cannot be matched from a panel, we can look at a surface booking with the manufacturer’s tax invoice and safety sheet, but treat that as an exception to be cleared before pickup and not something to assume.
How should a consignment be addressed to a workshop in Boranada or Salawas rather than to Jodhpur city?
Treat it as an industrial delivery, because that is how it behaves. Give us the registered unit name, the plot or shed number and the estate — Boranada, Salawas or the Basni sector — plus the name and mobile of the person at the stores or the supervisor who signs. Two things then follow. First, these units keep receiving hours rather than a full day, so a consignment that reaches Jodhpur in the afternoon may still be handed over the following morning; that is not a delay in transit, it is the gate. Second, the small ateliers are genuinely known by the owner’s name in the lane, so writing the proprietor alongside the firm name saves the rider a round of phone calls. If you ship to the same workshop every week, ask us to set a fixed collection day at your Bengaluru studio on a contract rate with one consolidated monthly invoice.
A piece arrived damaged and we are sending it back for rework. What has to travel with it?
Pack it as though it is going out new, not as a return — the road does not care which direction it is travelling. Double-wall carton, the corners and any turned or carved section wrapped separately, and photographs of the fault taken before we seal the box so there is a dated record on both sides. On paperwork, keep the two things separate. From us you get a GST invoice for the freight and the AWB in writing. From you the carton needs a delivery challan or a return note referencing the original invoice number, because the workshop’s own accounts cannot book a rework against an unidentified carton, and once the declared value crosses the e-way bill threshold — ₹50,000 in most cases — that document is generated by you as the consignor, on your GSTIN. Put one copy inside the carton and a second in a pouch taped to the outside; receiving staff read the outer copy first.
