Domestic route · Bangalore → Jammu

Send a parcel from Bangalore to Jammu. We pick up free.

About 2,700 kilometres, close to the full length of the NH44 corridor. DTDC surface takes 6–8 working days, air express 4–5, and on a lane this long the gap between them is usually worth paying for. Free pickup at 5 kg and above anywhere in Bengaluru; on this route the collections cluster in the south and south-west — Uttarahalli, Kanakapura Road, JP Nagar and Banashankari.

02 — How this lane runs

Collected across south Bengaluru, run the length of NH44, delivered across Jammu and the Katra side.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Uttarahalli, Kanakapura Road, JP Nagar and Banashankari are the addresses this lane is most often booked from, and outside peak hours the rider is with you in 60–90 minutes. Everything is packed at your door — corner protection, double-taped seams, a written weight before sealing. On a consignment that will be handled more times than most, the packing is not a formality.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Same-evening handover into the DTDC Bengaluru facility and onto the northbound trunk. This is one of the two or three longest domestic lanes on our Bengaluru board, and an early booking is the cheapest day of transit you will ever buy on it.

STEP

NH44 line-haul to the north.

Up through Hyderabad, Nagpur and Agra, around Delhi, then Ambala, Ludhiana and Pathankot before the corridor reaches Jammu. Surface covers the whole 2,700 kilometres in 6–8 working days. Express flies out of Kempegowda and cuts it to 4–5. December and January fog across the northern plains is the seasonal variable on the middle stretch.

STEP

Jammu and Katra delivery.

Last-mile across the Jammu pin family on the 180xxx series — Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Channi Himmat, Bakshi Nagar, Talab Tillo, Nanak Nagar, Bahu Plaza and the old city below the temple ridge. Katra, Udhampur, Samba and Kathua are separate pin families on their own runs and are quoted individually; see the questions below before you assume a Jammu booking covers them.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Signature, stamped slip or a photograph at the door — the proof of delivery reaches your WhatsApp thread within the hour of handover.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Jammu.

Weight is taken as actual or volumetric, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is charged on top.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 6–8 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 4–5 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Collection costs you nothing anywhere in Bengaluru once the parcel is 5 kg or more. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — worth checking on this lane, because a carton of quilts or winter clothing measures far larger than it weighs. At 2,700 kilometres the two-to-three day gap between surface and express is real time, not marketing: if the shipment has a date attached — a pilgrimage, an admission, a court or tender deadline — book air and stop thinking about it.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Jammu

Pilgrimage traffic, prasad and offerings, university paperwork, and parcels to families posted north.

Pilgrimage shipments for the Vaishno Devi yatra

The defining traffic on this lane. Bengaluru sends a very large number of pilgrims to the shrine above Katra every year, and a good share of them ship rather than carry — warm clothing and blankets sent ahead to the guest house, bags forwarded to the family they will stay with, and purchases sent back home afterwards instead of dragged through an airport. Send it to arrive a clear week before you travel, address it to the property or the relative rather than to a booking reference, and put a phone number on the AWB for whoever will actually be there to receive it.

Prasad, offerings and temple purchases

The steady return of the same traffic — dry prasad, sacred thread and chunri, framed pictures, silver and brass offerings, souvenir items and dry fruit bought at Katra, all sent to relatives in the south who could not make the trip. Dry, sealed and well-packed, all of it travels fine. The two things that go wrong on this category are ghee-based sweets and camphor, and both are covered plainly in the second card below — please read it, because it is the most common reason a prasad parcel gets stopped.

University, court and administrative paperwork

Jammu is a serious university town — the University of Jammu, a central university, a medical college and a technical university at Katra — and it is also the winter capital and a major administrative centre. That combination generates a real flow of paper on this lane: transcripts and mark sheets, admission and verification files, tender and bid submissions, compliance and legal documents. Always express, always with the recipient's mobile on the AWB, and tell us if a submission deadline is attached so we book the air leg the same evening.

Parcels to families posted north

Government service, banking, the railways, teaching and the armed and paramilitary services all move people between the south and Jammu, and this lane carries the ordinary consequence of that — clothing and household goods following a transfer, medicines in original packaging, school and exam material for a child, festival parcels in both directions. It is unglamorous, high-frequency traffic and it is a large part of what we book here.

Winter clothing and bedding

Jammu is not a cold city by Himalayan standards but it is a great deal colder than Bengaluru, and Katra and the ridge above it are colder again. Quilts, blankets, jackets, thermals and boots move up this lane every autumn, sent by people who have just discovered that nothing they own in Bengaluru is adequate. It is a textbook volumetric consignment — vacuum bags save real money here, and they also make the box easier to protect over a seven-day journey.

Retail and distribution stock

Bengaluru supplies small consumer goods into Jammu's wholesale and retail trade — phone and computer accessories, garments and footwear, small electricals, packaged lines and spares — which move as bulk consignments above 35 kg on the same starting rate. Send a tax invoice with every commercial consignment and generate an e-way bill where the value crosses the threshold. On a corridor this long, a shipment held for paperwork loses days rather than hours.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first card is refused across the DTDC network without exception. The second card is what actually gets stopped on Bengaluru → Jammu bookings, and most of it comes out of pilgrimage parcels rather than commercial ones:

Banned outright

  • Flammable solids, including camphor and solid fuel
  • Liquids of every kind — oils, ghee, syrups, perfume
  • Aerosols and pressurised cans
  • Perishables and anything needing refrigeration
  • Alcohol, wine and spirits
  • Currency, bullion and unset stones

Common Bengaluru → Jammu misjudgements

  • Camphor, dhoop and solid fuel cubes — the number one refusal on this lane, and almost always an innocent one. Camphor is classified as a flammable solid and cannot travel by air or road on a parcel service, however small the packet and however clearly it is meant for a puja. Agarbatti, dry havan samagri, kumkum and haldi are all fine; kapoor is not. Take it out before you seal the box.
  • Ghee-based sweets and wet prasad — patisa, halwa, laddoo standing in ghee, anything with syrup or moisture in it. Over a six-to-eight day surface run these leak, spoil and contaminate everything else in the carton. Factory-sealed dry mithai with a manufacturing date, dry fruit, mishri, makhana and sealed namkeen travel perfectly well and are what most people should be sending.
  • Coconut oil, gingelly oil and homemade ghee — the classic South Indian household parcel to a relative posted north, and a liquid every single time, including in a factory-sealed bottle. Dry podi, sambar and rasam powder, filter coffee powder and sealed dry snacks all move up this lane without any restriction at all.
  • Loose power banks and spare lithium cells — sent along with a phone or a camera for a trip. A battery installed inside the device it belongs to is accepted on surface; a bare cell or a separate power bank is not, and nothing above 100 Wh may go on the air leg. Declare electronics at booking and we route the consignment so it is not discovered at a screening point.
  • Decorative blades, khukris and antique metalwork — bought as souvenirs and packed without a second thought. Anything with an edge must be declared before we book it; some of it can move on surface with the right packing and paperwork, some of it cannot travel at all. Ask first. Do not find out at a screening point.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The AWB reaches you on WhatsApp the moment we book the consignment, the run stays visible on dtdc.in, and the delivery proof comes back on the same thread. Three practical notes about this end of the country. A working recipient mobile number matters more here than on almost any other lane we run — deliveries are frequently made to guest houses, hostels, service accommodation and offices where the rider needs to be talked in, and a parcel that cannot be phoned in is a parcel that returns to the branch for another attempt. Second, road access into the wider region is genuinely weather-dependent in winter, so a consignment addressed beyond Jammu can wait on conditions rather than on the network. Third, service on any route can be paused during a disruption. If that is the case when you call us, you will hear it before we take your booking and before your money changes hands, and if something arises mid-transit we will tell you on your WhatsApp thread rather than letting you work it out from a tracker.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Jammu.

Can I send prasad and offerings from Katra back to Bangalore, and what is not allowed?

Most of it, yes, and it is one of the commonest things this lane carries in both directions. Dry prasad, mishri and dry fruit, sacred thread, chunri and cloth, framed pictures, brass and silver items, rudraksha and souvenir goods all travel without any problem provided they are packed dry and sealed. Three things regularly cause a stop. Camphor is a flammable solid and cannot be sent at all — this is the single most frequent reason a prasad parcel is pulled. Ghee-based sweets and anything wet or syrupy will not survive a six-to-eight day surface journey and are refused as perishable. Oils, including small bottles of sacred oil, are liquids. Pack the dry items in a sealed inner bag inside a proper carton, declare any metal items by name, and put the recipient's mobile on the AWB. If you are not sure about a specific item, send us a photograph on WhatsApp before you tape the box.

Does a Jammu booking cover Katra, Udhampur, Samba and Kathua?

Not automatically, and this is worth settling before you book rather than after. Jammu city sits on the 180xxx pin series and is the best-connected delivery point in the region. Katra, Udhampur, Samba and Kathua each carry their own pin family and are delivered on their own runs, usually adding a working day or more over the city. All of them are served, each is quoted as its own lane. Give us the exact pin code at the time of the enquiry, not the district name, and we will quote and time the right one. This matters most for pilgrimage shipments: a parcel sent to a Katra guest house is a Katra booking, and if you price it as a Jammu one and time it to the day, you will be a day short.

Why is this lane 6–8 days on surface, and when is express actually worth it?

Because it is close to 2,700 kilometres — very nearly the full run of the NH44 corridor from the far south to the far north — and because the last part of it moves through terrain where weather is a genuine factor rather than an excuse. Six to eight working days is the honest surface band and we would rather publish it than quote five and disappoint you. Express at 4–5 working days is worth paying for whenever a date is attached: a yatra you are travelling for, an admission or verification deadline, a court or tender submission, medicines someone is waiting on. It is also worth it for anything valuable, simply because fewer days in transit means fewer handling points. Surface is the right choice for bulk, for household goods and winter bedding, and for anything where arriving next week rather than this week costs you nothing. If you are unsure, tell us the deadline and we will tell you which one actually meets it.
