- Used or unsterilised instruments coming back from a hospital — this is the line that matters on the surgical side, and it is not about the blade. An instrument that has been through a procedure and has not been documented as decontaminated is treated as clinical waste, and clinical waste is outside courier carriage entirely. Deflate them, and the saving is large enough that it is the single most useful thing on this page. You are billed on the higher of the scale weight and the volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5000, and a ball is the worst possible shape for that formula because it is almost entirely air. Let the air out, stack them flat and they fit a 45 × 35 × 25 cm box: 7.9 kg volumetric, from about ₹948 on the same rate. Same balls, roughly a third of the bill. Use a proper inflation needle to deflate rather than forcing the valve, keep the needle and pump out of the box if it uses gas cartridges, interleave the balls with paper so the panels do not rub over a 2,520 kilometre surface run, and put the supplier's reference on the outside. Express, addressed to a named person, and with a little more care than an ordinary parcel deserves. My son's college address says Phagwara, not Jalandhar. Do I still book it to Jalandhar?
No — book it to the address and the pin code that are printed on the college's own communication, and tell us both when you ask for a quote. Several of the largest campuses that people describe as being at Jalandhar are actually on the GT Road stretch toward Phagwara, which is in Kapurthala district and carries its own pin code, and the same is true of Kapurthala town, Nakodar and Adampur. All of them are served and the transit band is the same or a day beyond Jalandhar city, but they are different beats and they are quoted as their own lanes, so writing Jalandhar on a box that belongs at a Phagwara pin code simply sends it to the wrong sorting point and costs you a day. Beyond the pin code, the things that make a campus delivery succeed are the same everywhere and are worth repeating: the hostel or block name, the room number, the student's registration number if the campus uses one, and the student's own mobile. Large campuses receive parcels at a central mail room with hours of its own and they will not hunt for a name they cannot match to a room.
