Where Bengaluru → Gwalior bookings go wrong
- Gas lighters, matchboxes and camping canisters — the standard contents of a first-term hostel box, packed by a parent who has thought about everything except the courier network. All three are excluded outright, and a single lighter is enough to have the whole carton pulled. Send the induction plate and the vessels; let the student buy the flame locally.
- Laboratory chemicals, reagents and glassware — reagent bottles, solvents, stains and prepared solutions destined for a campus lab. Chemicals are refused whatever the concentration, and unpacked glassware is not something a general courier will carry cover on. Departmental procurement channels exist for this and they are the right route.
- Pain-relief sprays, deep-heat aerosols and liquid supplements — these travel in every sports kit bag and none of them can travel by courier. The sprays are pressurised, the rubs and gels are liquids by volume. Dry powders and tablets in sealed retail packs are fine and go without a query.

The student, in almost every case, and that is the detail worth planning around. Put the hostel name, the block and the room number on the docket, and give us the student's own mobile rather than yours — the rider will phone that number from the gate and hand the carton over against a signature there. Most hostel gate offices and wardens will not take custody of a parcel addressed to a resident, so if the student is in class or out of town when the rider arrives, the delivery is marked as attempted and comes back the next working day. Two other things. Check the academic calendar before you book: over the summer break and between terms the hostels empty and a carton sent then has nobody to receive it. And keep the contents ordinary — no lighter, no matchbox, no gas canister, no spare power bank, because those are exactly what gets a first-term box stopped.
Can I courier a tabla or a harmonium from Bengaluru to Gwalior without it getting damaged?
Yes, and we do it, but the packing decides everything. The instrument must be in its own hard case first — a padded gig bag is not enough over 1,790 kilometres of road — and that case then goes inside a double-wall carton with rigid foam on all six faces, not just the top. Tabla should travel with the drums separated and each bayan and dayan individually wrapped; a harmonium travels with the bellows strapped shut and the keyboard face padded.
