Domestic route · Bangalore → Guwahati

Send a parcel from Bangalore to Guwahati. We pick up free.

About 2,750 kilometres, and the shortest of the four Northeast lanes we run — every other one of them passes through this city on the way to somewhere further. DTDC surface takes 6–8 working days; the air service out of Kempegowda lands in 4–5. Pickup is free across Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, and this lane is booked as much from the wholesale counters of Chickpet and Avenue Road as from the Assamese households around Frazer Town.

02 — How this lane runs

Collected across Bengaluru, run up the eastern coast and through the Siliguri corridor, delivered on the Brahmaputra.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

The trade end of this lane lives in the old market grid — Chickpet, Avenue Road and the lanes around them — where a van cannot get to the shutter and the rider walks the last hundred metres. Book those addresses before noon and have the consignment counted and ready; market-hour collections there are the one thing that slips. Household and office pickups in Frazer Town, Cooke Town and Rajajinagar run on the normal 60–90 minute promise. Everything is weighed on our scale at your address and sealed in front of you.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Handed into the DTDC Bengaluru facility the same evening it is collected. On a journey with an eight-day outside figure the single largest thing you control is which night's trunk movement the parcel catches, so a morning booking is worth more here than on any short lane.

STEP

Line-haul north, then east.

The freight runs the length of the eastern seaboard into Bengal, turns north through Malda, threads the narrow corridor of land above Bangladesh, and then swings east across the plain into Assam. Six to eight working days covers the whole 2,750 kilometres by road. The express service skips all of it — an air leg from Kempegowda into Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International at Borjhar, with delivery in 4–5.

STEP

Guwahati delivery.

Last-mile across the 781xxx pin family: Paltan Bazar and Fancy Bazar in the commercial core, Ganeshguri and Dispur for the state offices, Zoo Road, Chandmari, Beltola, Six Mile, Khanapara, Maligaon and Noonmati. North Guwahati and the Amingaon side sit across the river and take their own delivery run. Anything addressed onward to Shillong, Silchar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh or Itanagar is broken out here — Guwahati is where the Northeast's freight is redistributed, and your parcel is no exception.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Signature, stamp or a photograph at the door, forwarded to you on the same WhatsApp thread within the hour of the parcel being handed over.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Guwahati.

Billing is on actual or volumetric weight, whichever comes out higher, with the fuel surcharge current on your booking date. GST is added on top.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 6–8 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 4–5 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, which decides the price on almost every carton of packaging material that goes up this route. Be honest with yourself about the ₹60 a kilo that separates surface from express here: on a two-day lane it buys convenience, but on a lane where the road figure runs to eight working days it buys back three or four of them, and for anything with a date on it that is money well spent. Between May and September the Brahmaputra is in flood and the road figure is the one that moves — see the last question below.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Guwahati

Wholesale stock for the region, parcels to family, and everything a Bengaluru hospital sends home with a patient.

Wholesale stock for the region's redistribution trade

Guwahati is the commercial hub of the entire Northeast — goods land here and are broken down for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur. Bengaluru's old market district supplies a great deal of it: garments and hosiery from Chickpet, phone and computer accessories, small electricals, hardware, stationery, plastics and packaging bought on Avenue Road and around it. These travel as bulk consignments over 35 kg on the surface starting rate. Send a tax invoice inside and on the outside of the carton, and raise an e-way bill where the consignment value crosses the threshold — a commercial parcel stopped for paperwork on a lane this long does not lose hours, it loses days.

Parcels home from Bengaluru's Assamese and Northeastern community

The steady, week-in week-out traffic. Bengaluru has one of the largest Northeastern working populations of any Indian city — hospitality and hotel staff, café and restaurant crews, salon and spa professionals, retail and airline staff, nurses, and a thick layer of students and young engineers — and a lot of it lives around Frazer Town, Cooke Town and the Kammanahalli side. What goes home is what any working household sends: clothes, a phone, medicines in their original boxes, school things for a younger sibling, and a visible spike in the fortnight before Bohag Bihu in April.

Assam tea, moving in both directions

Guwahati runs one of the world's largest CTC tea auction centres, and tea is close to the perfect cargo for a lane like this one — dry, sealed, stable, indifferent to eight days in a truck. We book garden despatches and small-lot orders down to Bengaluru's speciality roasters, cafés and D2C sellers, and we book the other leg too: printed caddies, pouches, labels, tasting sets, brand and trade-fair material going up from Bengaluru to estates and packers around the city. Tell us the carton dimensions rather than the weight when you ask for a tea price — it is light, bulky freight and volumetric almost every time.

Medical follow-up for patients treated in Bengaluru

A large number of Northeastern families travel to Bengaluru for surgery and specialist treatment, and the parcels start after they fly home. Prescription medicines in their original sealed packaging with a copy of the prescription, scan films, discharge summaries, reports for a follow-up consultation, orthopaedic supports and mobility aids. This is the category where we push people towards express without apology: a medicine reorder that takes eight days by road is a medicine reorder that runs out.

Campus and exam traffic

IIT Guwahati out at the Amingaon side, Gauhati University, Cotton University, the medical colleges and the AIIMS campus at Changsari between them pull a steady flow of documents and equipment. Transcripts and mark sheets, admission and scholarship paperwork, project hardware, a repaired laptop going back to a student, and the annual trunk-and-bedding movement in both directions at the start and end of term. Paper and books are dense and cheap by weight and belong on surface; anything with a submission deadline attached belongs on the air service.

Industrial spares for the oil, gas and refining belt

Assam's petroleum industry is old and real — the Noonmati refinery inside Guwahati itself, and the field and gas operations upriver that draw their spares and instruments from wherever they are made. Bengaluru's engineering belt around Rajajinagar and the western industrial estates ships pumps, valves, bearings, gauges, control cards and calibration instruments up this lane regularly. Small, heavy, dense freight, crated properly and moved on the bulk rate; tell us if a shutdown window is involved and we will price the air option beside the road one.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first card is refused across the DTDC network on any route. The second is what actually gets pulled out of consignments on this particular lane, and it is shaped by two things — that half of it is trade stock out of a wholesale market, and that the other half has to survive eight days in a truck:

Banned outright

  • Alcohol, wine and spirits in any quantity
  • Aerosols, deodorant sprays and pressurised cans
  • Paints, thinners, solvents and solvent-based adhesives
  • Fireworks, crackers, matches and lighter fuel
  • Fresh produce, meat, fish and anything needing refrigeration
  • Currency, bullion and unset gemstones

Common Bengaluru → Guwahati misjudgements

  • Loose lithium cells and power banks bought for resale — the single most frequent refusal on the trade side of this lane, because Bengaluru's electronics wholesale market is where Guwahati retailers buy. A battery fitted inside the device it powers travels on surface. A carton of bare cells, spare packs or unbranded power banks does not travel at all, and nothing over 100 Wh goes near the air leg. Declare what is in the consignment at booking and we will route it properly instead of it being opened at a hub.
  • Milk sweets and anything with ghee or khoya in it — this is the one that hurts people. Dharwad peda, milk burfi, fresh laddu and soan papdi from a Bengaluru sweet shop are a lovely thought and they will not survive six to eight days in a closed carton in transit. Dry roasted snacks, sealed mixture and namkeen, chikki, packaged biscuits and vacuum-sealed dry sweets are fine. If the sweet needs a refrigerator at home, it needs one in the truck.
  • Coconut and hair oil sent in with the clothes — bottled oils go into family parcels out of habit and they are liquids whatever the label says. On a lane this long a cracked cap does not just ruin the bottle, it ruins the entire carton and everything the family was actually waiting for. Leave every bottle out.
  • Lacquer, varnish, wood polish and touch-up paint in a trade consignment — sent up alongside furniture fittings and craft hardware. All of it is flammable liquid and all of it is refused. Ship the fittings, buy the finish at the other end; Guwahati's hardware market is well stocked.
  • Dead laptops, swollen batteries and scrap boards — device returns and e-waste headed back up to a family member who repairs things. Refused outright, and correctly so. A working machine with an intact battery inside it is a completely different case and books without any trouble.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The AWB number reaches your WhatsApp the moment the consignment is booked, the run stays visible the whole way on dtdc.in, and the delivery proof comes back on the same thread. Two things about the Guwahati end are worth knowing before you write the address. The first is that the city navigates by locality and landmark far more than by house number — a parcel marked with the nagar or the path, the nearest well-known junction and a working mobile number gets delivered on the first attempt; one with a bare street number and no phone gets carded and comes back to the branch. The second is water. The city sits on the south bank of the Brahmaputra between hills, and the low-lying pockets around Anil Nagar and Rukminigaon take on water within an hour of a serious downpour, while the wider Assam floods between May and September can put the road corridor itself under strain. When that happens deliveries in the affected pockets pause rather than fail, and the tracker will show the parcel sitting at the Guwahati facility until the water goes down.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Guwahati.

Surface is 6–8 working days. When is express actually worth the extra?

More often than we would tell you on a short lane, and we will say so plainly. The gap here is the widest on our Bengaluru board — three to four working days between road and air — and the price gap is ₹60 a kilo before surcharge and GST. On a 5 kg parcel that is roughly ₹300 to save half a week, which is easy money for anything with a date attached: medicines, documents, a replacement part, a birthday, a Bihu parcel booked late, a laptop somebody needs to work on. Where surface still wins outright is bulk and cargo without a deadline — trade stock, packaging, books, bedding, a relocation carton, a tea consignment going into a warehouse. The honest rule we give callers is that if being four days late would cost you anything at all, book air; if it would only annoy you, book road and save the money.

Can you bring Assam tea the other way, from Guwahati down to Bengaluru?

Yes, and it is one of the easier things we handle. Tea is dry, sealed and shelf-stable, so it is unaffected by a long surface run and there is no restriction on moving it as a domestic consignment. Pack it in the foil-lined pouches or tins it was packed in at the garden, then into a rigid double-wall carton with the void filled so nothing shifts — loose leaf that has been tumbled for 2,750 kilometres arrives as dust and half the value is in the leaf staying whole. If it is a commercial lot rather than a personal one, put the tax invoice inside the box and a copy in a pouch outside, and raise an e-way bill if the value calls for one. Ask us for the carton dimensions to be measured at pickup: tea is light and bulky, so you will almost certainly be billed on volumetric weight rather than on the scale reading.

Does the Brahmaputra flooding actually delay parcels, or is that overstated?

It is real and we would rather you heard it from us at booking than from a tracker that has not moved. Assam floods every monsoon, roughly May to September, and in a bad week the water sits on stretches of highway, closes low sections and slows every truck moving into and around the state. Inside Guwahati itself the effect is usually localised and short — a day or two in the pockets that take on water — while the wider disruption is what stretches a surface run towards the top of its 6–8 day band rather than the bottom. What we do about it is simple. During the monsoon we quote the upper figure rather than the lower one, we push anything time-sensitive onto the air service where the flooding is largely irrelevant, and if the network pauses deliveries into a specific pocket we tell you where the parcel is sitting instead of letting it go quiet. Ship a week earlier than you need to in July and August and none of this will ever be your problem.
