Send a parcel from Bangalore to Bhilai. We pick up free.
Roughly 1,270 kilometres — north on NH44 past Hyderabad, then east off the Nagpur corridor into Chhattisgarh, where Durg and Bhilai sit on the approach before Raipur. 3–4 working days on DTDC surface, 2–3 by air express. Pickup anywhere in Bengaluru is free at 5 kg and above, and on this lane most of it happens on the industrial northwest — Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli and Rajajinagar.
Pickup in Bengaluru, trunk movement through Hyderabad and Nagpur, delivery across the Bhilai–Durg township.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Sixty to ninety minutes in the central city. For the Peenya industrial estate, Jalahalli and the Yeshwanthpur trader belt we ask for a two-hour window, because those pickups are usually multi-box and need weighing and crating on the spot rather than a signature at a door. If you are a trader with a fixed dispatch hour, tell us and we will slot the rider to it instead of you chasing us.
Bengaluru sortation.
Booked into the DTDC Bengaluru facility the same evening so the consignment rides that night's northbound trunk. Chhattisgarh is served off the central corridor rather than a direct point-to-point line, so a parcel that misses the evening cut-off does not lose an hour — it loses a night.
NH44 north, then east.
Up through Hyderabad and on toward Nagpur, then east along the Nagpur–Raipur corridor. Bhilai and Durg sit on the western side of that approach, which is why this lane is marginally shorter than Raipur is by road even though the two towns are barely half an hour apart. Surface holds 3–4 working days; the air leg out of Kempegowda brings it to 2–3.
Bhilai–Durg delivery.
Off the local hub across the 490xxx series that covers Bhilai Nagar and the steel township — the numbered sectors, Nehru Nagar, Supela, Khursipar, Smriti Nagar. Durg proper runs on its own 491xxx family and is a different beat, so if the address says Durg, give us the pin and we will quote the right lane rather than assuming the two are interchangeable.
POD on WhatsApp.
Signature image or stamped delivery slip, forwarded to you on WhatsApp inside the hour of handover. For plant and vendor consignments we also send the receiving stamp where the store issues one.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Bhilai.
Priced on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge in force on the booking date. GST extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 3–4 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru once the parcel crosses 5 kg. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, but this lane is unusual in running the other way round — most of what leaves Peenya for Bhilai is dense metal, so you are billed on the scale, not the tape. The trap here is the opposite one: senders assume a small heavy part will be cheap, then find the timber crate around it has doubled the chargeable figure. Send us the finished outer dimensions along with the part weight and we will price both before you build the packing. Between July and September the Nagpur–Raipur stretch takes real monsoon water, so treat the surface band as 3–4 days plus a rain buffer if a shutdown date depends on it.
Plant spares, automation parts and safety gear — plus parcels home to the township.
Vendor spares for the plant and its ancillaries
Bhilai is a town built around one steel works, and the ancillary and contractor ecosystem around it buys from Bengaluru's engineering suppliers continuously — bearings, seals, gearbox internals, hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic fittings, load cells. What is different about this lane compared with a general industrial route is that the buying is often tied to a planned shutdown window with a fixed start date, not a surprise breakdown. If your material has to be in the store before a shutdown opens, tell us the date at booking and we will work backwards from it rather than quoting you a transit band and hoping.
Drives, contactors and automation components
Variable-frequency drives, contactors, relays, proximity and temperature sensors, PLC and I/O cards, panel meters — the everyday stock of the electrical trade around Peenya, Rajajinagar and the SP Road cluster, going to maintenance stores and panel builders in the Bhilai belt. Electronics of this kind need anti-static bagging and a rigid inner box; we carry both, and we would rather repack a card at your counter than watch it travel loose in a jiffy bag.
Safety gear and PPE in bulk
Helmets, face shields, flame-retardant coveralls, gauntlets, safety footwear and harnesses, usually as a contractor order rather than a single-item shipment. This is the one category on the lane where the volumetric formula bites hard: thirty helmets weigh very little and fill an enormous carton. Nest them, band the stack and let the rider measure the finished box, because the difference between a well-packed and a lazily packed PPE consignment on this route is a whole weight slab.
Parcels home to the township families
Bhilai was staffed from across the country when the plant was built, and Telugu, Bengali, Malayali, Tamil and Punjabi families have been in the sectors for two and three generations now. A good share of that third generation works in Bengaluru, and the lane carries their parcels home — clothes for parents, a replacement phone, medicines in original prescription packaging, festival gifts, documents that need a signature at the family address. Small, frequent and almost always under 5 kg, which is the one weight question we get asked about most on this route.
Books, exam material and campus parcels
Chhattisgarh's engineering and medical coaching demand runs through the Bhilai–Durg belt, and there is a steady flow of printed material, reference sets, test series bundles and second-hand textbooks going that way from Bengaluru. Books are dense and cheap by weight, so surface at ₹120/kg is almost always the right answer — a 20 kg carton of books costs less to send than most people expect and arrives in the same 3–4 days as anything else.
Medical equipment spares and consumables
The hospital cluster serving the township and the districts around it buys instrument spares, probes, calibration items, printed diagnostic stationery and non-hazardous consumables out of Bengaluru's medical-equipment trade. These travel fine, but read the restricted list before you pack: reagents, alcohol-based preparations and anything with a hazard label on it are a different conversation, and it is far cheaper to have that conversation before the rider arrives.
The list that gets a parcel refused.
Refused by DTDC and by every network with an air leg. The second card is the set of mistakes that actually happen when an engineering city ships to a steel town:
Banned outright
- Liquids of every kind, including factory-sealed containers
- Compressed gas cylinders and refrigerant cans
- Paints, thinners, solvents and industrial adhesives
- Acids, alkalis and corrosive chemicals
- Explosives, detonators and pyrotechnics
- Currency, gold and silver bullion, and unset stones
Common Bengaluru → Bhilai misjudgements
- Used spares that still hold oil or grease — the misjudgement that defines this lane. A returned gearbox, hydraulic cylinder or pump housing pulled off a machine is almost never empty, and residual oil finds its way out under three days of road vibration whatever you wrap it in. Drain it, degrease it, plug the ports and tell us it is a used part so we line the crate. A dry part is perfectly shippable; a wet one is a liquid consignment with a metal shell.
- Lubricants, hydraulic oil, cutting fluid and coolant concentrate — sent alongside the machine they belong to, in good faith, in a sealed can. It is still a liquid and it is still refused. Order the fluid locally in Bhilai and send only the hardware.
- Aerosol contact cleaner, penetrating spray and marking paint — standard maintenance-store items, all of them pressurised and most of them flammable. They cannot travel on the air leg and are not accepted on surface either.
- Strong permanent magnets and magnetised components — magnetic separator blocks, motor magnets and some sensor assemblies. These carry a genuine air-cargo restriction and need to be declared and shielded; undeclared, they get pulled at sortation. Tell us and we will route them on surface where they are straightforward.
- Loose cells inside test instruments and inspection torches — a battery sealed inside the instrument is fine on surface; the spare pack in the case pocket is not, and neither is a loose cell above 100 Wh on the air leg. Empty the accessory pouch before you hand the kit over.
AWB at booking. Live tracking. POD when it lands.
The AWB number reaches you on WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked into DTDC, and it is live on the public tracker at dtdc.in from that moment. Proof of delivery follows within the hour of handover. Two things are worth setting up correctly before pickup on this route. The township is laid out on sector and block addressing rather than street names, so write the sector, block and quarter number exactly as it appears on the recipient's own address — a rider who has only a landmark will circle a sector for twenty minutes and then mark the attempt failed. And for anything going to a plant store, vendor gate or contractor office, put the store or department name and the receiving person's mobile on the AWB: those are gated premises with fixed receiving hours, and a delivery that arrives without a named consignee comes back to the hub for the next working day.
Specific to Bangalore → Bhilai.
Is Durg quoted as the same lane as Bhilai?
They are twin towns half an hour apart and people use the names interchangeably, but for a courier they are two different beats on two different pin families — Bhilai Nagar and the steel township sit in the 490xxx series, Durg city in 491xxx. Both are served and the transit band is the same 3–4 working days on surface, but they are worked by different delivery runs, and an address written as "Bhilai" with a Durg pin on it can cost a day while it is sorted out. The fix takes ten seconds: send us the full six-digit pin on WhatsApp with the booking and we will quote and route against that rather than against the city name. The same applies to Bhilai-3, Charoda and the outlying industrial pockets, which are on their own beat again.
Can I send used machine parts back to a vendor in Bhilai for repair?
Yes, and it is one of the more common bookings we handle on this lane — but only once the part is dry. Anything that has been in service holds residual oil, grease or coolant in a bore, a port or a seal cavity, and three days on the road will bring it out. Drain the housing, wipe it down, plug or tape every open port, and wrap it in absorbent before it goes into the crate. Tell us at booking that it is a used return so the rider brings liner sheet and builds the packing accordingly. Include the delivery challan or a returnable-goods note in a pouch on the outside of the crate as well — a repair return with no paperwork tends to sit at a vendor's receiving desk far longer than the freight itself took.
How do I make sure a shutdown-critical spare arrives before the window opens?
Book it against the date, not against the transit band. Surface is 3–4 working days and express is 2–3, and for a shutdown that is not the number that matters — what matters is the buffer between arrival and the window opening, plus the receiving hours at the other end. Our practical advice on this lane: for anything more than four working days ahead, surface is genuinely sufficient and saves you ₹60 a kilo; inside four days, book express; inside two, call us before you order the part, because there are cut-offs on the air leg that decide whether it moves tonight or tomorrow night. In July to September add a day for the monsoon on the Nagpur–Raipur stretch. And give us the receiving person's name and mobile — a spare sitting in a gate office because nobody could be phoned is the most expensive kind of on-time delivery.
