Domestic route · Bangalore → Belagavi

Send a parcel from Bangalore to Belagavi. We pick up free.

About 500 kilometres up NH48 through Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Hubballi-Dharwad — plateau all the way, with no ghat section anywhere on it. DTDC surface covers it in 2–3 working days; the air leg does it in 1–2. Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, and on this lane it clusters on the north-west side of the city: Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli and Nagarbhavi.

02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, a clean plateau run up NH48, delivery across Belagavi city and the border district.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Usually 60–90 minutes from your call. This lane leans hard on the industrial north-west — Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli, Rajajinagar and the Nagarbhavi side — where a machine shop or a tool supplier is often the sender rather than a household. We come with tape, bubble wrap and a scale, weigh at the door and seal the box in front of you so the billed weight is never a surprise later.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Same-evening handover into DTDC's Bengaluru operation. Belagavi sits on the busiest freight corridor leaving Karnataka, so it is fed by a daily northbound movement rather than a consolidated one, and that is the single reason 500 kilometres reliably lands inside the same band.

STEP

NH48 line-haul.

North-west past Chitradurga and Davanagere, through Haveri and Hubballi-Dharwad, then the last stretch into Belagavi. There is no ghat and no hill descent on this route — the whole thing runs across the northern Karnataka plateau, so the monsoon variability that slows our coastal and Kerala lanes simply does not apply here.

STEP

Belagavi delivery.

Off the Belagavi hub. The city, cantonment, Tilakwadi, Shahapur, Camp and the Udyambag industrial belt are all in the 590xxx series and are the quick part. Gokak, Chikodi, Nipani, Athani, Bailhongal, Saundatti and Ramdurg are 591xxx district beats — served, but on a wider loop that a rider may cover once a day.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

The moment it is signed for we push the proof of delivery back to you — signature capture, or a stamped inward slip if it went to a foundry office or a college desk — usually within the hour.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Belagavi.

Billing is on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, plus whatever fuel surcharge is in force on the day you book. GST sits on top.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 2–3 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru once the consignment is 5 kg or heavier. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, but note which way it cuts on this particular lane: most of what moves here is metal — castings, tooling, gauges, fasteners — and metal is small and dense, so you will almost always be billed on actual weight rather than the box. That flips the usual advice. Do not oversize the carton to protect a heavy part; use a tight box and pack the void, because a heavy item with room to slide is what breaks cartons on a 500-kilometre run.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Belagavi

Foundry and machine-shop supply, regimental-centre parcels, and the December session.

Tooling, gauges and instrumentation for the foundry belt

Belagavi's Udyambag and Machhe industrial areas hold one of India's older aluminium-casting and machine-tool clusters, and much of what it consumes on the precision side is bought in Bengaluru. Carbide inserts, tool holders, slip gauges, dial indicators, bore gauges, small hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, control cards. Dense, valuable, usually urgent because a line is waiting — these are the parcels people ask us to book at nine at night.

First-article samples and inspection reports

The reverse leg of the same relationship. Belagavi's precision-machining and aerospace-component shops send sample parts and dimension reports to Bengaluru customers for approval, and Bengaluru sends back marked-up drawings, revised specifications and approved sample sets. Small parcel, hard deadline, almost always express with the quality engineer's name and mobile written on the AWB rather than just the company name.

Parcels to the regimental centre and cantonment

Belagavi is a long-standing military town with a regimental training centre and a large cantonment, and families across Bengaluru send parcels to recruits and serving staff there. Clothing, footwear, books, toiletries in solid form, sweets, documents. Address it exactly as the recipient gave it to you, including company or squad details, and put a mobile number on it — a training establishment will not chase an incomplete address, and read the restricted list before you pack anything a gate would question.

Legislature and legal paperwork in December

The Karnataka legislature holds its winter session at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, and for a few weeks each year that creates a genuine spike of document traffic out of Bengaluru — briefing sets, tender and representation files, printed reports, press material and legal papers moving to people who are temporarily working out of Belagavi rather than the capital. All express, all worth booking with a named recipient.

College and coaching material

Belagavi draws students from across the border district and beyond into its medical, dental, engineering and law colleges, and a lot of those families work in Bengaluru. Books, printed test series, a laptop, a hostel bedding set, admission and scholarship files that have to be physically signed. June and July are visibly the heaviest weeks on this part of the lane.

Retail and hosiery trade restocking

Belagavi is a working trade town — hosiery, garments, footwear, shop fittings and fast-moving accessories — and its retailers restock small lots out of Bengaluru's wholesale market. Two or three cartons a week is a normal pattern, and at that frequency you should be on a contract rate sheet rather than paying per booking. Ask us and we will quote the lane monthly.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

DTDC and every network with an air leg refuse the first block outright. The second block is what actually gets pulled on a lane running from Bengaluru into a foundry-and-cantonment town, which is not what gets pulled on our southern lanes:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of any kind, sealed retail bottles included
  • Aerosol cans and anything else under pressure
  • Paints, thinners, solvents and spirit-based markers
  • Corrosives, acids and industrial reagents
  • Explosives, ammunition and pyrotechnics
  • Banknotes, gold and silver bullion, loose gemstones

Common Bengaluru → Belagavi misjudgements

  • Dye-penetrant and crack-detection aerosol kits — the refusal unique to this lane. Non-destructive testing sets go out to foundry quality rooms constantly, and every can in them is a pressurised aerosol with a flammable carrier. The developer powder alone is sometimes acceptable; the three-can kit never is. Send the kit by road freight, not by courier.
  • Resin, catalyst and core-binder samples — the small bottle a supplier wants a moulding shop to trial. It is a chemical liquid, frequently corrosive, and it is refused whatever the label says. Send the technical data sheet by email and let the material move on a proper hazardous consignment.
  • Metal powder, grinding dust and swarf samples — aluminium and magnesium fines are a flammable solid, not an inert lump of metal. A finished casting or a machined part ships without any argument at all; powdered or dust-form material of the same metal does not.
  • Air pistols, pellets, knives and replica ordnance — attempted on the cantonment side of this lane and refused every time, including inert or decommissioned display pieces and multi-tools with a fixed blade. If it would be questioned at a gate, it will be questioned at our booking counter first.
  • Milk sweets — pedas, kunda-style barfi, anything khoya-based — Belagavi has its own famous milk sweet, so people assume sweets travel well on this route. Dry sweets, sealed farsan and packaged snacks do. Fresh khoya-based sweets have no cold leg here, sweat inside the box within a day and arrive as a claim rather than a gift.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

We send the AWB to your WhatsApp the moment the consignment is booked into DTDC, and you can check its position yourself at any hour on the public tracker at dtdc.in. Proof of delivery follows within the hour of the parcel landing. Two Belagavi-specific things are worth planning around. First, the Udyambag and Machhe industrial addresses run on shop hours and a stores window — a rider who reaches a foundry gate after the inward-material desk has shut comes back the next working day, so name the stores or quality contact on the AWB. Second, addresses in the cantonment and around the military establishments go through a controlled entry, which means the recipient's mobile number is not optional there; without it the parcel is marked undelivered at the gate.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Belagavi.

Do I write Belgaum or Belagavi, and does it matter which language the address is in?

Write either name — both are understood at the hub and neither will misroute a parcel. Belagavi is the official name, Belgaum is what a great many people still search and still write, and DTDC's network recognises both. The language question comes up because this is a border district where Kannada and Marathi are both spoken daily and the naming has been politically contested for decades, and senders sometimes worry the label is a statement. It is not — it is a delivery instruction. Our practical advice is to write the address in English with the pin code in numerals, because that is what every sorter along a route touching four states can read at speed. If the recipient gave you the address in Kannada or Marathi script, add it underneath rather than instead of the English line. The pin code is what actually decides the beat; the script decides nothing.

Does a Belagavi booking cover Gokak, Chikodi, Nipani, Athani and Bailhongal?

Yes, they are all served, but they are not the same delivery promise as the city. Belagavi city, the cantonment, Tilakwadi, Camp and the Udyambag belt sit in the 590xxx series and are delivered off the hub quickly. The district towns — Gokak, Chikodi, Nipani, Athani, Bailhongal, Saundatti, Ramdurg and the villages around them — are 591xxx and are covered on wider loops, which in practice can mean the outer end of the 2–3 day surface band rather than the inner end. Nipani in particular sits right against the Maharashtra line and people often write it as though it were a Kolhapur address. Send us the full address with the pin code before we book, and we will tell you honestly whether it is a hub-day delivery or a district-loop one instead of letting you find out from the tracker.

Can I send a parcel to someone training at the Belagavi regimental centre?

Yes, and it is a regular booking for us, but the address discipline matters more here than anywhere else on this lane. Copy the address exactly as the recipient wrote it to you — establishment, company or squad, and any internal reference they gave — because a training establishment routes internally off those details and will not do detective work on a partial address. Put the recipient's own mobile number on the AWB; entry is controlled, the rider hands over at a designated point rather than walking in, and a parcel nobody can telephone comes straight back. Keep the contents simple and obviously ordinary: clothing, footwear, books, stationery, dry snacks and sealed toiletries in solid form all go. Do not pack anything blade-like, any air-gun pellets, any aerosol or any inert ordnance keepsake — those are refused by us at booking and would be stopped at the gate in any case.
