Common Bengaluru → Belagavi misjudgements
- Dye-penetrant and crack-detection aerosol kits — the refusal unique to this lane. Non-destructive testing sets go out to foundry quality rooms constantly, and every can in them is a pressurised aerosol with a flammable carrier. The developer powder alone is sometimes acceptable; the three-can kit never is. Send the kit by road freight, not by courier.
- Resin, catalyst and core-binder samples — the small bottle a supplier wants a moulding shop to trial. It is a chemical liquid, frequently corrosive, and it is refused whatever the label says. Send the technical data sheet by email and let the material move on a proper hazardous consignment.
- Metal powder, grinding dust and swarf samples — aluminium and magnesium fines are a flammable solid, not an inert lump of metal. A finished casting or a machined part ships without any argument at all; powdered or dust-form material of the same metal does not.
- Air pistols, pellets, knives and replica ordnance — attempted on the cantonment side of this lane and refused every time, including inert or decommissioned display pieces and multi-tools with a fixed blade. If it would be questioned at a gate, it will be questioned at our booking counter first.
- Milk sweets — pedas, kunda-style barfi, anything khoya-based — Belagavi has its own famous milk sweet, so people assume sweets travel well on this route. Dry sweets, sealed farsan and packaged snacks do. Fresh khoya-based sweets have no cold leg here, sweat inside the box within a day and arrive as a claim rather than a gift.

Do I write Belgaum or Belagavi, and does it matter which language the address is in?
Write either name — both are understood at the hub and neither will misroute a parcel. Belagavi is the official name, Belgaum is what a great many people still search and still write, and DTDC's network recognises both. The language question comes up because this is a border district where Kannada and Marathi are both spoken daily and the naming has been politically contested for decades, and senders sometimes worry the label is a statement. It is not — it is a delivery instruction. Our practical advice is to write the address in English with the pin code in numerals, because that is what every sorter along a route touching four states can read at speed. If the recipient gave you the address in Kannada or Marathi script, add it underneath rather than instead of the English line. The pin code is what actually decides the beat; the script decides nothing.
Does a Belagavi booking cover Gokak, Chikodi, Nipani, Athani and Bailhongal?
Yes, they are all served, but they are not the same delivery promise as the city. Belagavi city, the cantonment, Tilakwadi, Camp and the Udyambag belt sit in the 590xxx series and are delivered off the hub quickly. The district towns — Gokak, Chikodi, Nipani, Athani, Bailhongal, Saundatti, Ramdurg and the villages around them — are 591xxx and are covered on wider loops, which in practice can mean the outer end of the 2–3 day surface band rather than the inner end. Nipani in particular sits right against the Maharashtra line and people often write it as though it were a Kolhapur address. Can I send a parcel to someone training at the Belagavi regimental centre?
Yes, and it is a regular booking for us, but the address discipline matters more here than anywhere else on this lane.
