02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, NH48 to Pune, then the Ahmednagar road into the 431xxx belt.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Typically within 60–90 minutes. The south-east corridor carries most of this lane — BTM Layout, Bommanahalli, Begur, Hulimavu and the length of Hosur Road — because that is where Bengaluru's auto-ancillary and component suppliers are concentrated, and they are the biggest single group of senders on this route. The rider brings tape, bubble wrap and a scale and seals the carton in front of you.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

It reaches DTDC's Bengaluru facility that same evening. Marathwada is served off the western trunk, so an afternoon booking joins that night's departure while a very late one waits — on a lane where component shortages stop assembly lines, that single evening is the whole difference.

STEP

Line-haul via Pune.

Up NH48 through Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Kolhapur and Satara into the Pune belt, then the north-east leg through Ahmednagar and across the Marathwada plateau. Surface runs it in 2–3 working days. Express lifts from Kempegowda and lands in 1–2, and on this lane the premium is usually bought by production schedules rather than by sentiment.

STEP

City and MIDC delivery.

Last-mile across the 431xxx series — the old city around Gulmandi and the gates, Jalna Road, Cidco and Garkheda on the newer side, Chikalthana near the airport. Waluj sits west of the city and Shendra and Bidkin north-east on the Jalna road; all three are industrial estates with their own gate hours rather than city hours. Paithan, Khuldabad and Verul near Ellora are worked but sit outside the municipal beat.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Proof of delivery comes back to you within the hour — a signature capture for a residential drop, or the stamped gate-entry slip when the parcel goes into a plant stores.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

You are charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, plus the fuel surcharge in force on the booking date. GST applies on top.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 2–3 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free across Bengaluru on this lane from 5 kg upward. The volumetric figure is worked out as (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, and it is the larger of the two numbers that you pay on. Component cartons rarely trip it because metal is dense, but moulded plastic trims, wiring harnesses, packaging trials and saree boxes all do — those are the consignments where the measured number beats the weighed one. Ask for both figures before the rider leaves and there are no surprises on the invoice.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Auto components for Waluj, machinery for the Shendra–Bidkin corridor, Paithani trade and Ajanta–Ellora tourism supply.

Two-wheeler and auto components for Waluj

Waluj is one of Maharashtra's serious vehicle-manufacturing estates and it pulls parts, tooling and test samples from Bengaluru's ancillary belt week in, week out. Machined castings, fasteners, sensors, wiring sub-assemblies, moulded trims, rubber and gasket sets, first-article samples for approval. Send the inspection report and delivery challan inside the carton and tape a second copy to the outside, because a component box arriving at a plant gate without paperwork is refused rather than accepted and sorted out later.

Machinery, tooling and instrumentation for Shendra and Bidkin

The Shendra and Bidkin belt on the Jalna side is the newer industrial expansion of the city, built out as a planned industrial node rather than an old estate, and the units coming up there buy commissioning-stage equipment constantly. Measuring instruments, calibration masters, hydraulic and pneumatic spares, control panels' internals, small tooling. Heavy and dense: expect to be billed on actual weight, and expect us to double-wall the carton, because 970 kilometres of road is unkind to a single-wall box carrying steel.

Paithani, Himroo and wedding trousseau

Paithan, an hour from the city, is where the Paithani saree comes from, and Himroo weaving is the city's own. Bengaluru's silk trade and its Marathi households both deal into that market — order paperwork and colour cards going up, finished sarees and blouse pieces coming back, whole trousseau consignments moving before a wedding date. Fabric is the classic volumetric case: fold flat, band the stack, let the rider measure before sealing, and you will often drop a weight slab.

Tourism and hospitality supply for the Ajanta–Ellora circuit

The caves make this a city with a permanent visitor economy, and the businesses around it buy out of Bengaluru — printed brochures and signage, uniforms, guide and ticketing stationery, small hotel and kitchen equipment, souvenir and merchandise stock for the shops at Verul and the city hotels. Ordinary surface freight, usually consolidated into one carton rather than booked as five, which is always the cheaper way to do it.

Documents caught between two names

A category this city genuinely has and others do not. Bank KYC updates, property and society papers, school and university records, insurance and pension files where the old certificate says Aurangabad and the new one says Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and somebody needs the originals reconciled. These go express, with the recipient's mobile on the AWB and the AWB number sent to you in writing on WhatsApp so you have a dated record if a deadline ever needs proving.

Family parcels to Marathwada households

Marathwada sends a lot of its engineering and medical graduates to Bengaluru, and the parcels go back the other way all year — clothes for a function, gifts before Gudi Padwa and Diwali, medicines in original prescription packaging with the prescription copy enclosed, a laptop bought here, framed photographs after a wedding. Small, frequent and comfortable on surface, because two or three days is nothing when the occasion is a fortnight away.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The standard prohibitions come first. The second card is aimed squarely at the component and workshop consignments that dominate this lane — nearly every refusal we see here comes out of an auto-parts store rather than a kitchen:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of every description, sealed containers included
  • Aerosols, pressurised cans and gas cartridges
  • Cosmetics, nail polish and fragrance samples
  • Matches, lighters and flammable solids
  • Currency notes, bullion and bearer instruments
  • Explosives, ammunition and pyrotechnic devices

What an auto-components lane gets wrong

  • Fuel-system parts with residual petrol — carburettors, fuel pumps, injectors, filter housings and return lines off a used vehicle. Draining them is not enough: a part that still smells of fuel is treated as a flammable-liquid consignment and is refused at sortation. If a warranty return genuinely has to go, it must be flushed, dried, capped and declared, and we will tell you honestly whether it will pass.
  • Airbag modules, seatbelt pretensioners and igniters — these are pyrotechnic devices with a live charge, not electronics, and they are classified as explosives on every network in the world. They cannot travel on any parcel service in any packaging. Vehicle manufacturers move them under dangerous-goods contracts and so must you.
  • Lead-acid two-wheeler batteries and loose lithium traction packs — the battery is the one line item on a spares order that never travels. A sealed device with the cell inside is a different matter and is fine on surface; a bare battery of any chemistry is not.
  • Aerosol lubricant, brake cleaner and contact spray taped to a spares carton — added as a helpful extra by the storeman almost every time. The can is pressurised, it is pulled at screening, and the entire carton is held while it is opened, not just the can.
  • Paint, primer, thinner and adhesive tins from a body-shop order — flammable solvents are excluded on both surface and air. Colour cards, spray guns, masking material and abrasives all travel normally; only the tins are the problem.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

Your AWB number goes out on WhatsApp the moment the parcel is booked into DTDC, and you can check it yourself at dtdc.in whenever you want a position. The POD image follows within an hour of handover. The one thing that decides whether a delivery here closes first attempt is the address format. For an industrial consignment, write the plot or gate number, the unit's registered name and the purchase-order reference — a plant stores window will not take an unreferenced carton. For a residential one, the old city lanes around Gulmandi and the gates are not addressable by street name in any useful way, so a landmark and a working mobile do more for you than a full postal line. And write the pin code without fail: the pin, not the city name, is what routes the parcel, which is why both Aurangabad and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar work equally well on a label.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Should I write Aurangabad or Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on the parcel?

Either, and if you want to be safe write both — it makes no difference to the routing. The city was officially renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the district along with it, but the postal pin series did not change, and it is the 431xxx pin that actually moves the parcel through sortation. Our booking system accepts both names and we file them as the same lane, which is why the rate, the distance and the transit band are identical whichever you type. Practically: use whichever name the recipient's own paperwork uses, add the pin code, and add the locality — Cidco, Garkheda, Jalna Road, Chikalthana, Waluj. Most failed deliveries in this city come from a missing locality, never from the name.

Can I send a used part back to a Waluj vendor for a warranty claim?

Usually yes, with two conditions. First, the part has to be genuinely clean of fluids — a returned assembly still holding oil, coolant or fuel is a leak waiting to happen inside a shared load, and it will be refused at sortation or, worse, found in transit and offloaded. Drain it, cap the ports, seal it in a bag and then box it. Second, the claim reference has to travel with it: the RMA or warranty docket number inside the carton and a copy taped outside. A returns consignment that reaches a plant stores with no reference number sits in a corner of that store room for a week while somebody works out whose it is. What we cannot take back under any circumstance is a fuel-system component, an airbag module or a battery — those three are the standing exceptions on this lane, whatever the claim says.

I'm sending material to a hotel near the Ajanta caves for a tour group. Will it get there?

It will, but check the address before you assume it is a city booking. Ellora, at Verul, is close to the city and is served off the same hub, so a hotel there is straightforward. Ajanta is a great deal further out and sits toward the Jalgaon side on a different pin series altogether, so a consignment addressed simply to "Ajanta" is not on this lane at all — it is quoted separately and it takes longer. Send us the hotel's full address and pin before you book and we will tell you which of the two you are actually on. Whichever it is, address the carton to a named person with a mobile number and mark the group's arrival date on the outside; a resort front desk holding an unnamed box for a tour that has not checked in yet is the commonest way these go astray.
