The north of the city sends most of this lane’s volume — Thanisandra, Nagawara, Sahakar Nagar, Horamavu and out towards Yelahanka, where a large part of the Manyata working population lives. Prayagraj has been a preparation city for generations, and the reading-room belt around Katra, Salori, Allenganj and Georgetown is full of people working towards the UPSC and the state commissions. What comes from Bengaluru is a specific edition somebody could not get locally, a full standard set bought new, current-affairs compilations and the printed answer-writing material that goes with a test series. Paper is dense — a carton you can carry easily still bills 15 to 20 kg — so there is no volumetric surprise here, only an honest weight.
Case papers and legal documents
The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad keeps a very large bar, and a family matter, a property dispute or a service case in Prayagraj usually means documents travelling from wherever the family now lives. Certified copies, affidavits, a signed vakalatnama, registry and lease papers. Send them express in a sealed pouch, put the advocate’s or clerk’s own mobile on the AWB, and keep a scanned set with you — no courier can promise a listing date, and a soft copy is the only real backup.
Ritual articles ahead of a ceremony at the Sangam
Families settled in Bengaluru come back to the Sangam for rites that have to be performed there, and the material is often assembled here and sent ahead — dry puja samagri, cloth, brass vessels, printed texts, a photograph to be framed. Everything dry and solid ships normally. Cremated remains do not travel by courier at all, on this or any network; that is one thing a family carries personally, and we would rather say so plainly than have you find out at the counter.

Every January and February a great many people live in tents on the Sangam flats for the month of the Magh Mela, and the Kumbh in its turn brings a far larger version of the same thing. Blankets, woollens, dry rations, torches, medicines and reading material go to a relative staying in a camp. This works — but a Mela address is a sector and a camp name rather than a street, and it needs the extra detail set out in the FAQ.

Write the department along with the campus — Jhalwa and Teliarganj are several kilometres from the city addresses people assume they share.

The IT population in Thanisandra, Nagawara and Hebbal includes a sizeable eastern-UP contingent, and this lane carries the ordinary traffic of that: a phone bought here for a younger brother, a small appliance, medicines in original packing for parents, winter clothes going up in November and documents coming back the other way. - Ashes for immersion at the Sangam — the most important thing on this list, and the one people ask about most. No courier network in India accepts human remains in any form or packaging. Families carry them, and the airlines have their own documented procedure for it. Ask us and we will tell you the same thing rather than booking something that would be refused in sortation.
- Ganga jal and bottled water going either way — it is a liquid, and the direction of travel does not change that. Sealed retail bottles are refused on the same basis as an unsealed one.
- Loose camphor, dhoop cones and charcoal tablets — commonly bundled in with dry puja samagri. Camphor and self-lighting charcoal are flammable solids; the rest of the samagri box is fine without them.
- Power banks and spare cells sent with a phone — a battery sealed inside a handset can be routed on surface; a loose power bank in the same carton stops the consignment. It comes up constantly on a lane running out of a tech city.
- Laboratory reagents and chemical samples for campus projects — a request we genuinely get. Chemicals are dangerous goods, need a declaration and a compliant packing that a courier parcel does not provide, and cannot go as an ordinary consignment. Glassware and instruments are fine; what goes in them is not.

Prayagraj splits into three delivery problems and it helps to know which one you are dealing with. Civil Lines and the planned colonies behave like any city — a house number and a mobile are enough. The old city around Chowk, Katra and Bahadurganj runs on lanes and landmarks, so name the mohalla and the nearest crossing rather than trusting a street name, and expect a morning delivery. Student rooms in Salori, Allenganj and Kydganj are rented accommodation with no plate on the door, so write the landlord’s or the mess’s name alongside your relative’s and give a phone that is answered during the day. In every one of the three, add the pin code: it is the pin, not the name of the city, that moves the parcel through sortation.

Should I write Prayagraj or Allahabad on the parcel?
Both reach the same place, and if you are unsure write one and put the other in brackets. The city and the district were renamed to Prayagraj, and most current paperwork and signage uses that name — but the postal pin series did not change, and the 211xxx pin is what actually routes a parcel through sortation. A great deal of institutional naming also stayed as it was: the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad and the University of Allahabad both kept their names, which is why an address can quite correctly carry one name in the institution and the other in the city line. Our booking system treats them as one lane, so the distance, the transit band and the rate are identical whichever you type. What genuinely matters on the label is the pin code and the locality — Civil Lines, Georgetown, Salori, Jhalwa, Teliarganj — because a missing locality causes far more failed deliveries here than a name ever has.
Will the Magh Mela or a Kumbh year affect delivery, and can you deliver to a camp on the Sangam flats?
Yes to both parts, with conditions. Through January and February the Mela puts an enormous temporary population on the riverbank, traffic is routed around the approach roads, and pontoon crossings and diversions change how the city moves — deliveries in the affected areas run slower and a day of slack is a sensible assumption for the whole city, not just the Mela grounds. In a full Kumbh year the same effect is larger and lasts longer. Camp addresses are deliverable, but only if they are written the way the Mela is organised: the sector number, the camp or shivir name as it is registered, the name of the person staying there, and a mobile that is switched on and answered. Send anything bulky such as blankets or rations on surface a week or more before the person arrives, not while they are already living there. And if the parcel is not time-critical, the honest advice is to have it delivered to the family’s permanent address in the city and carried to the camp by somebody who knows the way.
My cousin is preparing for the civil services there. What is the sensible way to send a full set of books?
Send it surface, and pack it for weight rather than for space. Books are one of the few things that bill on the scale rather than on the box: a standard set for the general-studies papers, plus test-series material and a year of compilations, usually lands between 15 and 25 kg, and at ₹120/kg on surface that is the cheapest way to move it by a wide margin — well below the price of carrying it as excess baggage. Use a double-wall carton, line it with plastic against a wet leg, fill the gaps so the stack cannot shift, and strap it; a dense carton that is loose inside will burst a corner somewhere on 1,760 kilometres. Address it to the room the way the landlord writes it and give a daytime phone, because reading-room hours mean nobody is in the room when the rider arrives. Express is worth it only when a specific book is needed for a test that is days away — otherwise the four or five days are time you are not paying for.
