Send a parcel from Bangalore to Agartala. We pick up free.
About 3,100 kilometres by road — a figure that surprises people, because Tripura looks close to Bengal on a map and is nothing of the sort by highway. Surface runs 6–8 working days, air express 4–5. Free pickup everywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, and the north-city belt of RT Nagar, Sanjaynagar, Hebbal and Yelahanka is where most of this lane is collected.
Collected across north Bengaluru, taken the long way round the border, delivered in the Tripura capital.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
RT Nagar, Sanjaynagar, Hebbal and Yelahanka carry the bulk of this route — the north-city PG and hostel belt where a large share of Bengaluru's Tripura students and young professionals live. Sixty to ninety minutes in the core, a two-hour window past Hebbal flyover in the evening peak. We arrive with tape, bubble wrap and a scale, and nothing is sealed until you have seen the weight on it, because on a lane of this length there is no cheap way to fix a badly packed carton later.
Bengaluru sortation.
Into the DTDC Bengaluru facility on the evening of collection and onto the first northbound trunk out. This is the second-longest road journey on our Bengaluru board and every stage of it is scheduled rather than continuous, which is exactly why a parcel handed over at ten in the morning behaves differently from one handed over at seven at night.
The long way round.
The freight runs up the eastern seaboard into Bengal, north through the Siliguri corridor, east across Assam, and only then turns south down through the hills of Meghalaya and Cachar to reach Tripura from above. That detour is the whole story of this lane: Tripura is wrapped on three sides by the Bangladesh border, so the road cannot go straight and has never been able to. Six to eight working days by surface. The air service leaves Kempegowda and lands at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport on the edge of the city, delivering in 4–5.
Agartala delivery.
Last-mile across the 799xxx pin family — Krishnanagar, Banamalipur, Melarmath, Battala, Bardowali, Kunjaban, Abhoynagar, Dhaleswar and the Ronaldsay Road side, with the state offices around the Ujjayanta Palace core. Addresses out at Jirania, Suryamaninagar and the Udaipur road take their own run. Anything for Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Belonia or Ambassa is broken out here and reaches its district town on the following working day or two.
POD on WhatsApp.
The signed slip, stamped receipt or doorstep photograph is forwarded to you on WhatsApp within the hour of the consignment being handed across.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Agartala.
Charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge applying on the day you book. GST is extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 6–8 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 4–5 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free across Bengaluru at 5 kg and above. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — worth calculating before you book, because a student's bedding trunk almost always measures heavier than it weighs. A word on the two services: the ₹60 a kilo that separates them buys back three or four working days on this route, which is a genuinely different proposition from paying it on a lane where the road already takes two. We are not going to pretend surface is fast here. It is cheap, it is reliable and it is the right answer for anything that does not have a date attached — and express is the right answer when something does.
Student parcels, family shipments to Bengali-speaking Tripura, and supplies for the craft and rubber trades.
Care parcels to students and young workers, both ways
Tripura sends a great many of its school-leavers to Bengaluru's colleges and its early-career workers to the city's hotels, cafés, salons and support-services floors, and the parcel traffic follows them in both directions. Parents in Agartala send winter clothes, home food that travels dry, and documents that were left behind; the students send money's worth of goods back — a phone, a pair of shoes, medicines, gifts before Durga Puja, which is the single biggest date on the Tripura calendar and the fortnight when this lane is busiest. We collect from PG addresses in RT Nagar, Sanjaynagar and Hebbal most weeks of the year.
Household relocations and end-of-course moves
The other half of the student story. When a course finishes or a contract ends, a room in a Bengaluru PG has to become four cartons and get 3,100 kilometres home. Books, bedding, a monitor, kitchen things, a fan, clothes. Booked as a bulk consignment over 35 kg it works out far cheaper than airline excess baggage on a Bengaluru–Agartala itinerary that almost always involves a change of aircraft, and nothing has to be carried through two airports. Number the cartons, list what is in each on the outside, and send the whole lot on one booking so it moves together.
Supplies for the bamboo and cane trade
Tripura is one of India's serious bamboo and cane economies — furniture, basketry, mats, decorative work, and the incense-stick trade that consumes bamboo sliver by the tonne. What comes up this lane from Bengaluru is the industrial half of that business: hand tools and blades, hardware and fittings, adhesives in permitted non-solvent form, packaging cartons and labels, brand collateral for exhibitions, and spares for small processing machinery. Bulky, light, volumetric almost every time; send us the box dimensions when you ask for a price rather than a guess at the weight.
Inputs and equipment for the rubber and plantation belt
Tripura is the country's second-largest natural rubber producer after Kerala, and the smallholder plantations around Agartala and the district towns run on equipment that mostly is not made anywhere near them. Tapping knives and collection cups, laboratory glassware and test kits, weighing equipment, spares for sheeting rollers and small processing units. Dense, heavy, low-volume freight that rides the surface bulk rate well and is worth crating properly rather than boxing.
Medicines and medical follow-up
Agartala's own medical colleges handle a great deal, but a steady stream of families still travel to Bengaluru for cardiac, oncology and orthopaedic treatment, and the aftercare travels by courier. Sealed prescription medicines with a copy of the prescription in the box, scan films, discharge summaries and reports for a review appointment. We book these on express as a matter of course — a 3,100 kilometre road journey is not a sensible way to move a month's medication that ran out yesterday.
Shop stock for the Agartala market
Retailers in and around Battala and the market streets buy from Bengaluru's wholesale trade — garments, footwear, accessories, small electricals, mobile accessories and packaged consumer lines — and it moves on this lane as commercial consignments. Two things make the difference between a smooth run and a stuck one: a tax invoice travelling with the goods, inside the carton and in a pouch outside it, and an e-way bill wherever the value requires one. On a lane crossing this many state boundaries, paperwork is not admin, it is transit time.
A short, real list.
The first card is prohibited across the network on every route. The second is what genuinely gets pulled out of Bengaluru → Agartala consignments, and it comes down to the two things this lane carries most — student parcels and trade material for the craft and plantation businesses:
Banned outright
- Flammable liquids, solvents, thinners and fuel
- Aerosols and pressurised containers of any type
- Alcohol and spirits
- Fresh fruit, vegetables and perishable food
- Explosives, crackers, matches and lighter refills
- Cash, gold, silver and unset stones
Common Bengaluru → Agartala misjudgements
- Solvent adhesives, varnish and cane polish — sent up with tools and fittings for a craft unit because they look like part of the same order. Rubber solution, contact adhesive, spirit varnish and lacquer are all flammable liquids and none of them can travel by road or air. Water-based adhesives in sealed retail packaging are usually acceptable — ask before you pack rather than after we have opened the carton.
- Cosmetics, nail polish and deodorant in a care package — the classic addition to a parcel going to a student, and the classic reason that parcel gets stopped. Nail polish and remover are flammable liquids, body sprays and dry shampoo are pressurised cans, and perfume is both. Sealed powders, soap bars, wax strips and solid stick deodorant are fine. If it hisses, sloshes or evaporates, it stays in Bengaluru.
- Fresh fruit going either way — worth stating plainly because Tripura's pineapple is famous and people genuinely ask. Fresh produce is perishable and cannot be booked in either direction, least of all on a six-to-eight day road run. Dried, candied and factory-sealed processed fruit is a different thing entirely and ships without any restriction.
- Loose power banks and spare phone batteries — bought cheap in Bengaluru and posted home in the same box as the clothes. A battery inside the device it belongs to travels on the surface service; a bare cell or a separate power bank does not travel at all, and nothing above 100 Wh can go on the air leg. Say what electronics are in the carton when you book and we will route it correctly.
- Home-cooked food in a tiffin — parents send it, and after a week in a carton it is not food any more, it is a leak. Sealed dry snacks, roasted mixtures, packaged sweets with a printed shelf life and dry spice blends all travel perfectly well. Anything with moisture, oil standing on top or curd in it does not belong on the longest lanes we run.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
You get the AWB on WhatsApp as soon as the consignment is booked, the movement stays visible on dtdc.in through every hub it passes, and the proof of delivery comes back to the same thread within the hour. Two Agartala-specific habits will save you a failed attempt. First, write the address the way the city actually works: locality name, the nearest chowmuhani — the junction names that Agartala navigates by — and a landmark, rather than relying on a house number that may not be posted anywhere. Second, put a mobile number on the AWB that will be answered, and if the household is more comfortable in Bengali, tell us and we will make sure the phone contact is handled in Bengali; the state is overwhelmingly Bengali-speaking and a rider who cannot get past a language barrier at the gate is a rider who marks the parcel undelivered. Between June and September the hill sections of the approach through Meghalaya and Cachar are landslide-prone, and when a slide closes the road there is no quick alternative into Tripura — freight waits rather than reroutes, and the tracker will show exactly where.
Specific to Bangalore → Agartala.
Why is Agartala 3,100 km when it looks so much closer on the map?
Because the road cannot go where the map suggests. Tripura is almost entirely wrapped by the Bangladesh border — the state juts south into it and shares a boundary on three sides — so a road consignment cannot cut across; it has to go all the way north through the Siliguri corridor, east across Assam, and then turn south again through the hills of Meghalaya and Cachar to come at Tripura from the top. The straight-line distance from Bengal is a fraction of what the highway measures. That single fact explains almost everything about this lane: why it takes 6–8 working days on surface when a shorter-looking eastern city takes four, why the monsoon in Meghalaya and Cachar affects a parcel bound for Tripura, and why the air service, which simply flies over all of it into Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, closes the gap so dramatically. It is not a network limitation. It is a border.
The address I have is a locality and a chowmuhani with no house number. Will it deliver?
Yes, and that is how a large share of Agartala addresses are written. The city runs on locality names and junctions — chowmuhani simply means a crossroads — so an address like a named locality, the nearest chowmuhani and a recognisable landmark is more useful to a rider than a house number would be. What we need from you is the correct pin code from the 799xxx family, the locality spelled the way the family writes it, and a mobile number that is genuinely answered. With those three things the delivery is routine. Without the phone number it is a coin toss, because there is nothing for the rider to fall back on when a lane has no visible numbering. If you are unsure of the pin, send us the address on WhatsApp before booking and we will confirm it against the delivery area rather than guessing at the counter.
My family lives in Dharmanagar, not Agartala. Is that the same booking?
It is the same lane and one AWB, but not the same delivery day, and you should book it to the real address rather than to Agartala. Dharmanagar sits at the far north of Tripura, and Kailashahar, Belonia, Udaipur and Ambassa are all separate pin codes served on their own runs out of the state. In practice they add a working day or two on top of the capital's figure, sometimes more in the monsoon when the roads through the hill districts are the constraint. Booking to the final address means you get a proof of delivery from the place the parcel actually arrived, and it costs you nothing extra beyond that district-town day. What we would ask is that you tell us the destination town at the time of booking, not after — it changes which figure we quote you, and we would rather give you an honest 8-day estimate than a 6-day one you go on to plan around.
