02 — How this lane runs

Five steps from your Kota door to a New Zealand address.

STEP

Pickup, Kota.

Free at 5 kg+ from any Kota address — Talwandi, Rajeev Gandhi Nagar, Vigyan Nagar. We bring tape, bubble wrap and the international airway bill.

STEP

Pack & document.

Commercial invoice, KYC, content declaration. Done at our office before handover.

STEP

Jaipur air-feeder.

Same-evening road feeder to Jaipur airport (~250 km, +0.5 day) for the international air leg; backup via Delhi when needed. Onward routing typically transits Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore or Hong Kong before AKL Auckland or WLG Wellington — direct flights are limited.

STEP

NZ customs (MPI).

Clearance at Auckland gateway. New Zealand’s MPI biosecurity is among the strictest worldwide — even tighter than Australia in some categories. Paperwork-clean, biosecurity-safe parcels still take 48–96 hours to clear on average.

STEP

Doorstep delivery.

Last-mile via NZ Post or the local courier partner. POD on WhatsApp the same day.

03 — Rate band, Kota → New Zealand

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight (whichever is greater) plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra. Rates run higher than Australia because routing is longer.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (9–13 days, door)from ₹1,700 / kg
  • Economy (13–19 days, door)from ₹1,300 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from KotaFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.

Worked example

A 2 kg parcel — say a stack of textbooks plus folded cotton clothing for a coaching-alumnus in Auckland, ~30 × 25 × 15 cm:

  • Express, 2 kg × ₹1,700≈ ₹3,400
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹850
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹765
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹5,650

Indicative only. Fuel surcharge and rate cards change.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

MPI biosecurity is the strictest customs operation we deal with. We’ll walk you through documentation before pickup so the parcel doesn’t get held — or worse, destroyed.

KYC of the sender

One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup; not stored beyond DTDC’s record.

Commercial invoice

For commercial goods, a printed invoice listing items, quantity and value. For gifts, a written declaration. Item-level descriptions matter — MPI reads them carefully.

Prescription (medicines)

Pharmac rules — only the quantity prescribed, in the original sealed strip, with a copy of the prescription and doctor’s registration. No controlled substances, no liquids, no injectables.

05 — New Zealand-specific restrictions

What New Zealand doesn’t let in.

MPI (Ministry for Primary Industries) is among the strictest biosecurity regimes worldwide — small island ecosystem, fewer pest defences than continental countries. These are real MPI rules. Items shipped against them are seized, destroyed, and the consignee pays a disposal fee.

Don’t even try

  • All food — even commercially sealed packs. MPI’s default position is to seize.
  • Wooden items, untreated — picture frames, carved boxes, decor.
  • Bamboo handicrafts — treated as plant material.
  • Leather goods — CITES plus biosecurity rules.
  • Seeds, dried plants, herbs, agarbatti — agarbatti sticks are treated as plant-derived material and routinely seized.
  • Dairy and meat products — including dried, sealed, processed.
  • Fresh produce, dried flowers, decorations with botanical content — Diwali decoration sets with petals or pressed flowers are blocked.
  • Beeswax, pollen, honey-related items — protect NZ’s native bee stock.
  • Aerosols, lithium batteries above 100 Wh, all liquids — universal courier rules.

Allowed with care

  • Textiles and cotton clothing — declare fabric type and value. Best parcel content for NZ.
  • Books and printed material — straightforward; declare title and value. JEE/NEET-prep textbooks ship cleanly.
  • Prescription tablets — sealed strip, prescription attached, only the quantity prescribed (Pharmac rules).
  • Non-precious jewellery and small electronics — declare make, model, value.
  • Personal documents — passports, originals, signed papers.
06 — What goes Kota → New Zealand

Textile-only care, documents, returning baggage.

Kota-coaching-alumni care kits (textile-only)

Former JEE/NEET-toppers now at University of Auckland, Massey, Otago, Canterbury — engineering and medical students. Books, cotton clothing, electronic gifts only. No agarbatti, no organic material, no food — MPI is unforgiving.

Marwari business documents

Hadoti-region trader families with NZ-resident relatives — signed contracts, certificates, originals for visa work. Always express.

Wedding & festival outfits

Sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, dupattas, non-precious jewellery boxes. Shipped ahead of weddings to NZ-Indian families in Auckland and Wellington — declare every fabric on the invoice.

Block-print & textile samples

Hand-block printed cotton, cushion covers — declare ALL fabric details on the invoice. NZ buyers and small importers.

Personal documents

Passport originals, transcripts, signed contracts, certified copies. Always express; lane runs longer so book early.

Returning-traveller baggage

For NZ-resident tourists who shopped in Kota during family visits. Picked up from the hotel, packed (zero organic material — MPI scrutinises tourist baggage closely), shipped before they fly out.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC International, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.

08 — Three questions about New Zealand shipments

Asked most often.

Why is MPI even stricter than Australia?

New Zealand is a smaller, more isolated island ecosystem with fewer natural pest defences than even Australia. A single moth species or fungal spore arriving via a wooden frame or a packet of dried herbs can do real damage to native flora and pasture. MPI’s response is to default to seizure on anything ambiguous — agarbatti sticks (plant material), beeswax (could carry foulbrood), bamboo decor, dried flowers in a Diwali decoration set. The rule of thumb for NZ shipments: if it grew, was made from something that grew, or was made by an insect — assume it’s blocked.

Can I send a Diwali gift to my brother in Auckland?

Yes — but textile-only. What works: cotton clothing, sarees, dupattas, brass diyas (no flame-related decorations with botanical content), small electronic gifts, jewellery (non-precious), books. What doesn’t: any sweet, agarbatti, packaged dried flowers, mehendi cones (plant-based), pooja items containing rice or grain. We’ve seen NZ Diwali parcels arrive cleanly when the contents are clothing-and-electronics; the same parcels with one packet of mithai or one bundle of agarbatti get held.

Honestly — how long does the parcel really take from Kota?

9–13 working days for express, 13–19 for economy. The Jaipur road-feeder is the first 12 hours; the next 8–12 days are the air leg (which transits Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore or Hong Kong because direct India-NZ flights are limited) plus MPI clearance in Auckland (24–96 hours). We don’t advertise faster numbers to win the booking; we’d rather you book a wedding parcel three weeks early and have it land calmly.
