Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.
Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight (whichever is greater) plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.
Starting per-kg rates
- Express (7–10 days, door)from ₹1,400 / kg
- Economy (10–15 days, door)from ₹1,050 / kg
- Min billable weight0.5 kg
- Pickup from JodhpurFree at 5 kg+
Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.
Worked example
A 2 kg parcel — say a small antique-replica decorative piece plus papier-mâché, ~30 × 25 × 10 cm:
- Volumetric1.5 kg (actual 2 kg billed)
- Express, 2 kg × ₹1,400≈ ₹2,800
- + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹700
- + GST 18%≈ ₹630

Indicative only. Fuel surcharge and rate cards change. Large antique-replica furniture pieces ship via cargo, not courier — ask separately.
What you’ll need at pickup.
Customs paperwork is the most common reason an international parcel stalls. Jodhpur shippers — antique-replica, leather, papier-mâché — need careful invoicing. We’ll walk you through it before pickup.
KYC of the sender
One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup; not stored beyond DTDC’s record.
Commercial invoice + antique-replica certificate
For commercial handicraft and antique-replica B2B parcels: invoice listing items, quantity, value, plus a clear ‘replica / new manufacture’ certification (genuine antiques over 100 years need ASI export clearance — outside the courier route). The recipient’s residence card (Zairyu Card) number speeds clearance.
Prescription (medicines)
For tablets going to a student or family member: a copy of the prescription with the doctor’s registration number. MHLW reviews medicines; sealed strips, name matching the recipient’s Zairyu Card. No injectables, no liquid medicines.
What Japan doesn’t let in.
Japan Customs (Zeikan) is efficient but strict. Plant and animal quarantine (MAFF) is among the toughest in the world. These are real Japanese rules — not our caution. Items shipped against them are seized, destroyed, and may incur a disposal fee billed to the consignee.
Don’t even try
- Genuine antiques over 100 years — these need ASI clearance from India and Japanese cultural-import paperwork; courier route is replicas only.
- Untreated wooden furniture / packaging — MAFF rejects untreated bamboo and wood. Antique-replica furniture must use ISPM-15 heat-treated or kiln-dried timber.
- Meat & dairy products — extremely strict; even sealed dry meat snacks and ghee-mithai get rejected.
- Fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds, plants — MAFF is uncompromising. Even decorative dried flowers get flagged.
- Live animals, insects, biological samples — quarantine clearance required.
- Liquids and aerosols of any kind — universal courier rule.
- Lithium batteries above 100 Wh — restricted on air leg.
Allowed with care
- Antique-replica decorative pieces — small / medium pieces ship by courier with replica certification; large furniture goes by sea-cargo (separate quote).
- Leather goods — Jodhpur leather mojaris, bags, jackets. Declare hide-source country if asked.
- Papier-mâché & decorative arts — declare honestly with item-level values; well-received in the Japanese aesthetic market.
- Textiles & sarees — block-print and Bandhej. Declare a fair value.
- Sealed dry vegetarian sweets — declare every ingredient. Milk-based mithai may be flagged.
- Tablets with prescription — sealed strip, doctor’s prescription, name matching the Zairyu Card. No injectables.
Antique replicas, papier-mâché, returning-tourist baggage.
Antique-furniture-replica B2B to Tokyo / Kyoto
Jodhpur is India’s antique-furniture-replica export hub. Small / medium pieces — carved boxes, painted chests, brass fittings — go to Tokyo and Kyoto auction houses and curated boutiques. Japanese aesthetic appreciation for Indian craftsmanship makes this a recurring B2B lane. Replica certification with every parcel.
Papier-mâché & decorative arts
Painted papier-mâché trays, bowls, decorative panels to Japanese boutique buyers. Commercial invoice with HS codes and item-level values.
Leather goods
Jodhpur leather — mojaris, bags, jackets — to Japanese specialty retailers and individual buyers. Declare hide-source.
Returning-traveller baggage from Japanese tourists
Japanese tourists visiting Jodhpur and Mehrangarh often buy more than they can carry. Picked up from the hotel, packed without organic material, ISPM-15 wood where needed, shipped before they fly home.
Wedding & festival outfits
Sarees, lehengas, sherwanis to Indian-Japanese families. Non-precious jewellery boxes go in the same parcel.
Student care kits
University of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Tohoku — small but growing Indian-student community. Books, sealed dry snacks, kitchen tools, festival clothing.
Business documents
Contracts, agency agreements, replica-export paperwork. Always express.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC International, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.
Asked most often.
Can I ship a Jodhpur antique-replica chair to a Kyoto buyer?
Small pieces yes, large pieces no. Courier weight / dimension limits cap individual pieces at roughly 30–40 kg actual or volumetric. Carved boxes, painted chests, mirror frames ship fine. Full chairs, dining tables and large cabinets need sea-cargo via a freight forwarder — different quote, different paperwork (ISPM-15 wood treatment, replica certification, possibly bill of lading). Ask us and we’ll connect you to the right cargo-export contact.
Will Japanese customs treat my antique replica as a real antique?
Not if your invoice and certificate are clear. Genuine antiques over 100 years need ASI export clearance from India and cultural-import paperwork in Japan — outside the courier route. For replicas, your invoice should say ‘antique-replica, new manufacture’ with the year of manufacture if possible. We help draft the line-item description so MAFF and Zeikan don’t flag it for cultural-property review.
How can transit be only 7–10 days for somewhere this far?
Two reasons. One — DTDC moves the parcel via Delhi (~600 km road feeder) or Mumbai (~960 km, also reachable from Jodhpur) onto direct cargo capacity to NRT, HND or KIX, and Japanese ground last-mile is fast and reliable. Two — Japan Customs is unusually efficient at clearing paperwork-clean parcels. The Jodhpur road-feeder leg adds ~1 day vs Jaipur but the air and last-mile legs run identically.
