03 — Rate band, Jaipur → Germany

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight (whichever is greater) plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (5–7 days, door)from ₹1,300 / kg
  • Economy (8–12 days, door)from ₹950 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from JaipurFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.

Worked example

A 2 kg parcel — say a non-precious gem-sample envelope plus a block-print swatch-book to Pforzheim:

  • Express, 2 kg × ₹1,300≈ ₹2,600
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹650
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹585
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹4,300

Indicative only. Fuel surcharge and rate cards change.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

German customs (Zoll) is precise on documentation. Get the invoice and identifiers right at pickup and the parcel moves; get them wrong and Zoll holds it pending clarification.

KYC of the sender

One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup; not stored beyond DTDC’s record.

Commercial invoice

For commercial goods, a printed invoice with item, HS code, quantity and value. Recipient EORI for B2B (Pforzheim jewellery-cutters, Berlin/Munich design boutiques) is mandatory; German Steuer-ID for personal recipient helps clearance. For gifts, a written declaration with stated value.

Prescription (medicines)

Sealed tablets only, with a copy of the doctor’s prescription and registration number. BfArM rules apply — no controlled substances, no liquid medicines, no injectables.

05 — Germany-specific restrictions

What Germany doesn’t let in.

These are real Zoll and EU TARIC rules — not our caution. Items shipped against them are seized, and the consignee usually pays a disposal fee.

Don’t even try

  • Precious metals and bullion — Jaipur gem-traders should note: only NON-PRECIOUS samples (silver-plated brass, costume settings, glass-stone pieces) move on consumer courier. Precious gold/diamond consignments need dedicated insured-carrier networks.
  • Nazi or Volksverhetzung-flagged items — even foreign-published books, posters or memorabilia carrying Nazi iconography are blocked under the Volksverhetzung law.
  • Weapons and weapon-replicas — Waffengesetz is strict; even decorative swords, kirpans and ornamental knives get flagged.
  • Counterfeit branded goods — German consumer-protection enforcement is among the strictest in the EU.
  • CBD products — federal restrictions vary; assume blocked unless you have a specific import permit.
  • Drug paraphernalia — narcotics-precursor controls flag pipes, scales, and similar items.
  • Aerosols, perfumes, lithium >100 Wh — universal courier restriction.
  • Traditional fur — EU has carve-outs but Germany enforces strictly.

Allowed with care

  • Block-print textiles — Bagru and Sanganer hand-block cotton, silk dupattas, lehengas. Declare a fair value — German fashion-buyers know Jaipur block-print pricing.
  • Non-precious gem-trade samples — silver-plated brass, costume jewellery, glass stones, semi-precious unmounted samples for Pforzheim cutting-houses. Declare ‘non-precious sample, no commercial value beyond stated’ on the invoice.
  • Books and printed material — any topic except hate-speech-flagged content.
  • Sealed dry vegetarian sweets — declare allergens line-by-line; German allergy labelling is strict.
  • Prescription tablets — sealed strip, doctor’s prescription, EU Rx-equivalent.
  • Non-precious jewellery — declare make and value clearly.
  • Small electronics, papier-mâché — declare model and value.
06 — What goes Jaipur → Germany

Pforzheim gem-trade, Berlin design B2B, Munich-IT diaspora gifts.

Gem-trade non-precious samples (Pforzheim axis)

Pforzheim is Germany’s jewellery-cutting capital — the historic Pforzheim-Jaipur trade goes back decades. Non-precious samples (silver-plated brass settings, costume pieces, glass-stones, semi-precious unmounted samples) move on this lane regularly. Precious gold/diamond consignments are NOT shipped on consumer courier — those need insured-carrier dedicated services.

Block-print B2B (Berlin / Munich design)

Bagru and Sanganer hand-block cotton swatches, sample books and small lots ship to Berlin and Munich design boutiques. German fashion-buyers value Jaipur block-print quality and pay accordingly. EORI on the invoice every time.

Non-precious jewellery & costume

Costume jewellery, silver-plated brass, lac bangles and Meenakari-decorated pieces (non-precious) to Indian-origin and German fashion-buyers.

Wedding outfits (Munich-Siemens, Frankfurt-IT diaspora)

Lehengas, sherwanis, dupattas shipped ahead of weddings to Indian-German families across Munich (Siemens HQ), Frankfurt-IT-corridor and Walldorf (SAP). Always express.

Diwali and festival parcels

Diyas, decorations, pooja items, sealed dry mithai with allergen labels. Express recommended to land before the festival.

Student care kits

Books, sealed dry snacks, kitchen tools, Indian-grocery basics to TU Munich, RWTH Aachen, KIT, Heidelberg and Cologne. Engineering-track Indian students dominate the German university lane.

Business documents

Commercial invoices, signed contracts, sample dispatch papers to German business contacts — Pforzheim cutting-houses, Berlin design buyers, Frankfurt traders.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC International, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.

08 — Three questions about Germany shipments

Asked most often.

Can I send precious gems and gold from Jaipur to Pforzheim cutters via courier?

No — precious-metals and bullion are off-limits on consumer courier. The Pforzheim-Jaipur trade lane is real and active, but the actual precious consignments move on dedicated insured-carrier networks (BVC, Brinks, Loomis or specialised gem-trade couriers) under different paperwork. What we do ship are NON-PRECIOUS samples — silver-plated brass settings, costume pieces, glass stones, semi-precious unmounted samples, sample books, marketing material. With EORI, commercial invoice and explicit ‘non-precious’ description on the invoice, these clear Frankfurt customs cleanly.

Block-print swatches to Berlin / Munich design buyers — what’s the routine?

Pure B2B routine. Commercial invoice with item-level descriptions (‘hand-block printed cotton swatch, 30×30 cm, 50 pieces’), HS codes, per-piece values, KYC of the Jaipur sender, and the German buyer’s EORI number. With those four, Zoll classifies it as commercial sample and clears it in 24–48 hours at Frankfurt. We have a swatch-book template invoice on file — many Bagru/Sanganer block-print houses use it for their German trade.

Munich-Siemens or Frankfurt-IT-corridor wedding parcels — realistic timeline?

Express: 5–7 working days door-to-door is the honest band. Delhi handover Day 1, Frankfurt or Munich gateway around Day 3, Zoll clearance Day 4–5, last-mile Day 5–7. Office addresses (Siemens HQ Munich, Deutsche Bank Frankfurt, SAP Walldorf) deliver fine, but the courier needs the recipient’s direct phone — most German offices won’t accept parcels at reception without a named recipient confirming. For weddings we recommend booking 14 days before the function date, even though transit is 5–7.
