Send a parcel from Bangalore to Tiruchirappalli. We pick up free.
About 345 kilometres south — down NH44 to Salem, then the Namakkal road into Trichy. Surface runs 1–2 working days and express does the same, so the honest advice on this lane is to book surface and hand the parcel over early. It carries two quite different kinds of cargo: heavy-engineering paperwork and spares for the boiler belt, and everything a temple and college city needs. Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru from 5 kg up.
Pickup across Bengaluru, south through Salem, delivery across Trichy and Srirangam.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
A rider is usually with you inside ninety minutes across the core city. Two catchments dominate this lane and they are on opposite sides of town. The industrial one is north-west — Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli and Rajajinagar, where the machine shops and instrument suppliers that feed Trichy’s fabrication trade actually sit. The household one is south — Uttarahalli, Banashankari and the Kanakapura Road belt. Peenya bookings want a two-hour window because of the traffic on the flyover approach. Tape, bubble wrap and a scale come with the rider.
Bengaluru sortation.
The consignment goes into DTDC’s Bengaluru facility the same evening. Trichy freight moves on the southbound trunk out of Bengaluru, which is a dense daily lane with an early cut-off — the practical consequence is that the hour you book matters far more than the service you pick, and a parcel that misses the evening cut-off loses a day at the origin end that no amount of express recovers.
Southbound line-haul.
Down NH44 through Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem, then east on the Namakkal road into the Cauvery plain and Trichy. Flat four-lane road for effectively the whole distance, no ghat crossing, nothing seasonal to plan around. At 345 km it is comfortably a single-night run for the line-haul vehicle.
Trichy delivery.
Last-mile off the Trichy hub across the 620xxx pin series — Thillai Nagar, Cantonment and the Rockfort bazaar, Srirangam across the Cauvery, Golden Rock and Ponmalai, and the Kailasapuram and Thuvakudi belt out on the Thanjavur road. Thanjavur, Karur, Pudukkottai, Perambalur, Manapparai and Musiri are separate pin series on their own branch runs and add a working day. Send the six-digit pin, not the district.
POD on WhatsApp.
Signature image, stamped goods-inward slip or a photo at the door, forwarded on WhatsApp within the hour of delivery. On an industrial consignment we ask the rider to capture the stamped inward slip specifically, because that is the document your customer’s stores department will later ask you for.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Tiruchirappalli.
Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 1–2 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free across Bengaluru on this lane for parcels 5 kg and above. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. On this route the formula almost never bites, because the dominant cargo is dense — flanges, valves, instrument bodies, fasteners, tooling. Dense metal is billed on real weight and there is no volumetric surprise waiting for you. What does catch industrial senders is the 5 kg minimum billable weight: a 900 gram gauge is charged at five kilos, so consolidating a week of small dispatches into one booking is worth real money.
Boiler-belt spares and drawings, campus parcels, temple-town consignments and Gulf send-offs.
Spares and instruments for the fabrication belt
Trichy is a heavy-engineering town. BHEL’s plant on the Thanjavur road anchors it and a long tail of fabrication and ancillary units has grown up around Kailasapuram and Thuvakudi, working on pressure parts, structurals and boiler components. What comes out of Bengaluru is the small, urgent, expensive end of that supply chain — valves and fittings, instrument transmitters, bearings, gaskets and seal kits, welding consumables, calibration masters, a control card being sent back after repair. Book it in the evening and it is at the works next day; drain anything holding oil before you pack.
Drawings, quality documents and tender sets
Nothing gets fabricated without paper. GA and fabrication drawings, weld procedure and qualification records, material test certificates, third-party inspection reports, signed purchase orders, tender submissions and their annexures all move on this lane, usually against a date. Book express with the recipient’s direct mobile on the AWB, tell us the deadline, and we will hand you the AWB number the same evening rather than the next morning. Large-format drawings travel in a rigid tube, not folded into an envelope.
Campus parcels for the Trichy institutions
NIT Tiruchirappalli out on the Thanjavur road, Bharathidasan University, the medical and engineering colleges around the city and a dense belt of schools make Trichy an education town in its own right. Parents and elder siblings in Bengaluru ship the usual: a laptop, project hardware and electronic components, lab coats, printed notes, bedding at the start of term, cycle parts, and everything travelling back at the end of it. Hostel block, room number and the student’s own mobile go on the AWB.
Consignments to Srirangam and the temple quarter
Srirangam sits on the island between the Cauvery and the Kollidam and the Ranganathaswamy temple is the centre of a residential town, not a monument you visit and leave. Family parcels, ritual cloth and garments for a ceremony, printed invitations for functions booked at the temple, silver and brass articles, and the return flow of dry prasadam all move on this lane. Addresses inside the concentric temple streets need a landmark and a live phone — the access note below explains why.
Parcels ahead of a flight from Trichy airport
Trichy has run international services to the Gulf and South-East Asia for decades and it is the departure point for a large working population from the central districts. A recognisable booking here is a parcel that has to reach someone in Trichy before they fly — clothes and gifts bought in Bengaluru to be carried across, documents, a phone, a laptop. If there is a flight date, tell us the date at booking and we will work backwards from it instead of quoting a band. What must not go in that parcel is set out below.
Trade replenishment for the Trichy market
Retailers around Big Bazaar Street, Chinna Kadai Street and the NSB Road market buy from Bengaluru’s wholesale trade — garments and accessories, packaging, display material, festive stock, small electronics. Regular senders run a standing weekly slot on a bulk rate sheet at 35 kg and above with a fixed pickup window, which is cheaper per kilo and stops the shop waiting around for a rider.
A short, real list.
Nothing in the first card is carried by DTDC or by any air-linked network, in any packaging. The second card is the set of refusals we actually see on Bengaluru → Trichy, which on a lane split between a fabrication belt and an international airport is a particular mix:
Banned outright
- Compressed and liquefied gas cylinders and cartridges
- Flammable liquids — thinners, spirits, resins, hardeners
- Corrosive chemicals, acids, pickling and etching solutions
- Tobacco products, gutkha, paan masala and vapes
- Currency notes, gold and silver bullion
- Radioactive sources and unshielded testing equipment
Common Bengaluru → Trichy misjudgements
- Gas cartridges, charged regulators and fire extinguishers — a fabrication lane throws these up constantly. Argon and CO₂ cartridges, a purging kit, a regulator that still holds pressure, a small extinguisher going out with a machine. Anything pressurised is prohibited outright, and a vessel that looks empty is treated as full unless it is demonstrably vented. Send the regulator only if it is fully depressurised and say so at booking.
- Two-part epoxy and PU coating kits — the paint half and the hardener half are both flammable or corrosive and both are refused, sealed tins included. This turns up when a fabricated item is dispatched with its touch-up kit taped to the crate as a courtesy. Send the item; let the site buy the coating.
- Loose cordless-tool battery packs — an 18 V or 21 V pack for a drill, grinder or torque wrench, sent on its own or bundled beside the tool. A cell fitted inside the tool body is accepted on surface routing; a loose pack, a spare, or anything above 100 Wh on an air leg is not. Tell us at booking what is in the box and we route it so it does not get pulled.
- Gutkha, paan masala and vapes in an airport send-off parcel — these get tucked into the box for someone flying out, usually as a favour to a friend abroad. Chewing tobacco products are banned in Tamil Nadu and prohibited on courier networks nationally, and vapes and their liquids are banned outright in India. It is the whole consignment that gets held, not just the pouch.
- Manapparai murukku and snacks straight out of the kadai — the dry, sealed, factory-packed version travels perfectly and it is one of the nicer things this lane carries. Snacks packed hot into a tin with frying oil still on them do not: the oil comes through the carton within a day and marks everything stacked against it. Let them cool, seal them properly, and keep them in their own box.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
The AWB reaches you on WhatsApp the moment the parcel is booked into DTDC, and the public tracker at dtdc.in carries it from that point. Proof of delivery follows within an hour of the drop. Two Trichy-specific notes. On industrial addresses out towards Kailasapuram and Thuvakudi, put the stores or receiving contact’s mobile on the AWB rather than a purchase-department landline, and tell us the goods-inward window — those gates run to a stores timetable that closes well before the offices do, and a consignment that misses it waits for the next working day whatever the tracker says. On Srirangam addresses, the streets inside the temple’s concentric rings are narrow, crowded and restricted to vehicles in stretches, so riders work them on two-wheelers and call from the road; on major festival days, and Vaikunta Ekadasi in particular, that quarter fills with crowds and an attempt into it simply will not happen. Give us the recipient’s mobile and a landmark, and if a festival falls in your delivery window, say so at booking.
Specific to Bangalore → Tiruchirappalli.
We ship spares to BHEL and to the ancillary units at Thuvakudi. What do you need on the address?
Four things, and the second one is the one everyone forgets. First, the exact six-digit pin — the Kailasapuram and Thuvakudi belt sits outside the Trichy city core and is a different delivery run from Thillai Nagar or the Cantonment. Second, the stores or receiving contact’s own mobile number, not the buyer’s landline: gate security phones the stores desk, and a purchase executive who is in a meeting is the single commonest cause of a failed attempt on this lane. Third, the goods-inward window, because large plants and their ancillaries accept material against a stores timetable that typically closes hours before the offices do. Fourth, your PO or work-order number written on the outside of the carton as well as inside — a consignment that cannot be matched to an order at the gate gets set aside rather than signed for. Do those four and we will get you the stamped inward slip as the POD, which is what your accounts team will want when the invoice is queried.
Can you deliver inside Srirangam, and will a temple festival hold my parcel up?
Yes to the first, with a caveat on the second. Srirangam is a residential town on the island north of Trichy city and it delivers within the 620xxx series off the Trichy hub, so it is a normal next-day address most of the year. The complication is the layout: the town is built as concentric streets around the temple, and the inner rings are narrow, densely parked and restricted to vehicles in parts, so a rider covers them on a two-wheeler and phones from the road. Without a live mobile number and a usable landmark — a street name and a house number alone are rarely enough there — the attempt fails. On the big festival days the inner streets fill with crowds and processions, and Vaikunta Ekadasi in the Tamil month of Margazhi, around December and January, closes that quarter to normal movement for a stretch of days. A parcel addressed inside the rings on one of those days rolls to the next working day. If your delivery has a date attached and it falls anywhere near a festival, book it early and tell us.
My cousin flies out of Trichy next week. Can I send a parcel for him to carry, and what can’t go in it?
You can send it to him in Trichy — what you cannot do is treat our parcel as the first leg of his flight. Give us the flight date at booking and we will work backwards so it lands with a couple of days in hand rather than the night before, because a parcel that arrives after someone has left the house is a parcel with nowhere to go. On contents, the domestic carriage rules apply to our leg regardless of what he intends to do with it afterwards, and the things that get consignments held on this lane are consistent: no chewing tobacco, gutkha or paan masala, which are banned in Tamil Nadu and prohibited on courier networks anyway; no vapes or vape liquid, which are banned outright in India; no perfume, attar or alcohol-based fragrance, which are flammable liquids; no loose power banks or spare battery packs; and no liquids of any kind, including the pickle and oil that families always want to add at the last minute. Sealed dry snacks, clothes, documents, a phone or laptop with the battery inside it, and packaged gifts are all fine. Separately, remind him that whatever he carries onward is subject to the airline’s rules and the destination country’s customs, which are stricter than ours, not looser.
Tell us the rough weight. We’ll come back in minutes.

WhatsApp us the pickup address and a rough weight, or call and we will take the details. The Bengaluru desk runs 24×7, which on a lane governed by an evening cut-off is the difference between a next-day delivery and one that waits a day at this end.
