International route · Bangalore → Sweden

International courier from Bangalore to Sweden. Free home pickup.

Picked up at your Bengaluru door at any hour, documented properly, and flown out of Kempegowda on the DTDC International network rather than trucked to a coastal gateway first. Express runs 5–7 working days door-to-door, from ₹1,400 the kilogram before fuel surcharge and GST. Sweden is inside the EU customs union, which makes this one of the leaner Nordic lanes we run.

02 — How this lane runs

Five steps from Bengaluru to a Swedish address.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Free at 5 kg and above, at whatever hour suits you. A good share of this lane is booked by people who work Swedish hours from Bengaluru, which means late evening and early morning, and the HSR Layout desk is open for both.

STEP

Pack & document.

Itemised invoice in INR or SEK, sender KYC, and the receiver's personnummer for a personal parcel or organisationsnummer for a company one. Swedish systems are built around those identifiers, and supplying one converts a clearance that might take two days into one that takes a few hours.

STEP

BLR gateway.

Handover into DTDC International and out through Kempegowda directly. A Bengaluru parcel skips the day or two an inland origin loses moving to Mumbai or Delhi before it can fly; from the European hub it moves on to Stockholm-Arlanda or Gothenburg.

STEP

Tullverket clearance.

Swedish Customs are efficient and process a well-documented express consignment quickly — clearance is rarely the bottleneck on this lane, which is exactly why it is quoted a day tighter than Norway. VAT is assessed on the declared value and paid by the receiver before release.

STEP

Delivery in Sweden.

Last mile via PostNord or the local partner. Sweden mixes home delivery with collection at an ombud counter inside a supermarket, depending on parcel size and address. Five-digit postcode, written as three digits, a space, then two — 114 55, not 11455.

03 — Rate band, Bangalore → Sweden

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

The billable figure is actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the international fuel surcharge current on your booking date. GST is extra, and Swedish import VAT at the far end is the receiver's to pay.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (5–7 days, door)from ₹1,400 / kg
  • Economy (8–12 days, door)from ₹1,000 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from BengaluruFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.

Worked example

A 3 kg student carton — textbooks, a small pressure cooker, steel tiffin boxes and folded clothing, packed 35 × 28 × 15 cm, so volumetric works out under actual weight:

  • Express, 3 kg × ₹1,400≈ ₹4,200
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹1,050
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹945
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹6,195

Indicative only — surcharges and rate cards move. On economy the same carton comes out meaningfully cheaper and lands in 8–12 days.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

Sweden is not a difficult customs destination. What it is, is precise — the paperwork has to match the box. We put it together with you at pickup rather than leaving it to be written hurriedly at a counter.

KYC of the sender

One photo ID for the name on the airway bill — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at the door; it goes no further than DTDC's booking record.

Invoice plus a Swedish identifier

Itemised values in INR or SEK, and the receiver's personnummer for a personal shipment or organisationsnummer for a business one. Give us one of the two and clearance moves; leave the field blank and the consignment waits for someone in Stockholm to supply it.

Allergen detail on any food

Swedish food labelling rules are unforgiving about declared allergens. If there are nuts, dairy, sesame or gluten in what you are sending, it goes on the invoice in plain words — this is the single most common reason a Bengaluru snack parcel is queried here.

05 — Sweden-specific restrictions

What Sweden doesn’t let in.

Sweden applies the EU's import framework, so the interesting part is what Sweden adds on top of it — and the additions are genuinely Swedish rather than generic. These are the ones a Bengaluru sender runs into.

Don’t even try

  • Alcohol of any kind — retail alcohol in Sweden runs through the Systembolaget state monopoly, and courier networks carry none of it. A sealed bottle as a wedding gift is still a no.
  • Tobacco and nicotine products — Sweden has its own regulatory regime around oral nicotine and courier networks will not handle any of it in either direction.
  • Meat and dairy from outside the EU — the EU-wide personal-import ban applies, so ghee, milk peda and any dried meat masala are out. Sweden enforces it at Arlanda rather than assuming a small parcel does not matter.
  • Medicines without documentation — the Swedish Medical Products Agency is strict, and a strip of tablets with no prescription attached is treated as an unlawful import.
  • Knives and imitation weapons — Swedish knife law is stricter than most visitors expect, and it covers decorative pieces.
  • Seeds, saplings and fresh produce — plant-health rules, and no, a packet of curry leaves is not an exception.
  • Loose lithium cells and power banks — a battery inside a device is fine; a spare in the same box grounds the whole consignment.
  • Aerosols, perfume, oils, liquids — standard air restriction on every lane we run.

Allowed with care

  • Filter coffee powder and dry podis — sealed factory packs, ingredients printed. Sweden drinks more coffee per head than almost anywhere, and this still travels well.
  • Chakli, mixture and dry snacks — commercially packed with an allergen line on the label and on the invoice.
  • Silk sarees and dress material — Mysore silk, Kanjeevaram, cottons. Declare an honest value; the receiver pays VAT on it and a fake-low figure costs more time than it saves money.
  • Prescription medicines — sealed strips, the prescription with the doctor's registration number, and a one-line note on the condition. No liquids, no injectables.
  • Books, transcripts and apostilled papers — routine, and worth sending express with the AWB shared in advance.
  • Laptops, dev boards and small electronics — declare make, model and value. Battery installed in the device only.
06 — What goes Bangalore → Sweden

A telecom corridor, a student intake, and a lot of Kista addresses.

Sweden is a bigger lane out of Bengaluru than its population would suggest, and the reason is industrial. The two cities have been trading engineers for thirty years.

The Ericsson and telecom corridor

Ericsson runs one of its largest engineering bases outside Sweden here in Bengaluru, and the traffic between the two is constant — colleagues moving on assignment, families following months later, and a steady flow of documents and personal effects behind them. Kista, the Stockholm tech district, is the single most common delivery area on this lane.

Automotive and industrial staff

Volvo's Indian operations are headquartered in Bengaluru, and the Swedish industrial presence around the city — trucks, tooling, automation — puts engineers in Gothenburg on short postings regularly. Gothenburg is our second delivery cluster after Stockholm.

Parents shipping to students

KTH in Stockholm, Chalmers in Gothenburg, Lund and Linköping take a large Indian postgraduate intake, much of it from Karnataka engineering colleges. August is the peak month by a wide margin. Books, cookware, bedding, warm clothing, sealed dry food.

Startups sending samples

Koramangala and HSR hardware startups pitching into Swedish industrial buyers and accelerators. Prototypes, packaging mockups and dev boards, all needing a commercial invoice with HS codes. Tell us the meeting date and we will book express against it.

Wedding and festival clothing

Sarees, lehengas and sherwanis going out to Swedish-Indian families, and blouse pieces coming back after stitching. Book three weeks ahead; a December parcel into a Nordic winter has fewer spare days in it than you think.

Food from home, within the rules

Filter coffee, milagai podi, chakli, dry banana chips. This is the most emotionally important category on the lane and the one most often packed wrongly — see the restrictions above, and put the allergens on the invoice.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

One AWB, then a Swedish tracking number.

We send the AWB on WhatsApp as soon as the booking goes in, and you can follow it at dtdc.in from that moment. The air leg and the Tullverket step both produce long gaps with no scan — that is the system working normally, not a lost parcel. After release the consignment picks up a PostNord tracking reference at the Swedish end and your receiver gets their own notifications. The POD comes back to you on WhatsApp the day it lands.

08 — Three questions about Sweden shipments

Asked most often on this lane.

What is a personnummer and why does my parcel need one?

It is the Swedish personal identity number, the ten-digit code every resident carries, and Swedish administrative systems are built around it in a way that has no real Indian equivalent. For customs it functions as a definitive answer to the question of who is receiving the goods, and supplying it removes the most common reason a consignment stalls — an importer who cannot be matched to a record. For a business shipment the equivalent is the organisationsnummer. You do not strictly have to provide either. But a parcel without one relies on Tullverket or the delivery partner contacting your receiver to ask, and if that person is at work, travelling, or simply does not check an unfamiliar number, a lane that should clear inside a day starts costing you three. Ask your receiver for it when you ask for the address. It is not sensitive information in Swedish practice, and every Swedish resident knows theirs by heart.

My daughter is at Chalmers in Gothenburg — will PostNord bring the carton to her student housing?

Maybe, and it depends more on the box than on the address. Swedish delivery splits between home delivery and collection at an ombud, a counter inside a supermarket or petrol station, and larger parcels tilt towards the ombud. Student housing complicates it further: many Swedish student corridors have a shared entrance with an intercom, and if her name is not on the panel or the letterbox, a courier who cannot get in will default to the collection point anyway. Give us her name exactly as it appears on the door, the full five-digit postcode with the space, and a Swedish mobile number. Then tell her the collection notice will arrive as a text, not as a card in the letterbox. Cartons collected late go back after the holding window, and a return leg from Gothenburg is an expensive lesson in Swedish postal habits.

I'm sending a hardware prototype to a Swedish buyer. What should the invoice say?

Say what it is and what it is worth, plainly. A prototype is still a commercial good, so it needs a proper commercial invoice with an itemised description, a unit value, the HS code and a line stating the purpose — samples of no commercial value still need a stated value for customs, even if you are not charging for them. What causes trouble on this lane is not high value, it is vagueness: an invoice reading "electronic sample" against a ₹80,000 declared figure invites a question that takes days to resolve from Bengaluru. Name the device, the model, the quantity and the intended use. If a battery is fitted, tell us at booking, because that changes how the consignment is packed and routed. And if there is a demo date attached, say so — we will book express and give you the AWB the same evening rather than letting it sit for a morning collection.
