Bengaluru collection.
Free at 5 kg+, at any hour. Spain is four and a half hours behind Bengaluru, so a late-night pickup from Koramangala, HSR Layout or Jayanagar puts the parcel into the system while the Spanish end is still working. The rider brings tape, bubble wrap and the international airway bill.
Declaration and identifier.
Printed invoice with plain item descriptions, quantities, values and HS codes for commercial goods. The recipient's identifier goes on it too — NIE for a foreign resident, DNI for a Spanish national, NIF for a company. Spanish import processing wants that number and stalls without it.
BLR gateway.
Handed into the DTDC International facility and flown from Kempegowda, an international gateway in its own right. From an inland origin the parcel has to reach Mumbai or Delhi overland first and loses a day or more before it is airborne; from Bengaluru that step simply does not exist.
Aduanas clearance.
Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat or Valencia depending on routing. Spain applies the same European customs code as its neighbours and clears clean paperwork in a day or two, with a verification round on values it finds unconvincing. Parcels addressed to the Canary Islands do not clear here — see the note below.
Doorstep delivery.
Correos or SEUR for the last mile. Spanish addresses run street, number, then floor and door — "3º B" or "Esc. 2, 4º Izq" — and that detail belongs on the label. A Spanish mobile number matters, because the carrier calls rather than guesses. POD reaches you on WhatsApp the same day.
Starting rates, and how the final number is reached.
Billing runs on the greater of scale weight and volumetric weight, with the fuel surcharge in force that day added and GST charged on top. Spanish IVA and any duty are assessed on arrival and paid by the recipient.

A 2 kg parcel — say festival clothing and a sealed pack of coffee powder for a family in Barcelona, about 30 × 25 × 15 cm:

The paperwork we build at your door.
Spain is inside the European customs union, so a parcel cleared at Barajas is cleared for the bloc — with one real exception on Spanish territory. The Canary Islands sit outside that union and are treated as a separate destination, which changes both the paperwork and the timeline.
KYC of the sender
One piece of photo ID in the sender's name as it appears on the airway bill — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. Captured at your door, retained only in DTDC's record of the booking.
Invoice with the recipient's number
Item-level descriptions, quantities, unit values and HS codes for anything commercial, plus the consignee's NIE, DNI or NIF. Aduanas has become notably firmer about declared values on incoming parcels since low-value relief was withdrawn across the EU, so put down what the goods are really worth. A genuine present between private individuals is declared as a gift with an honest figure.
Prescription, for medicines
Sealed strips, a copy of the prescription with the doctor's registration number, and a line on the condition treated. AEMPS rules rule out controlled substances, and no courier lane anywhere carries liquid medicines or injectables.
What Spain doesn’t let in.
The food and plant rules are common to the whole union; the rest is Spain's own enforcement emphasis, plus the Canary Islands note that catches senders by surprise. Breaching this list means seizure or destruction with the cost passed to your recipient.
Don’t even try
- Milk products and meat of any kind — every EU member state refuses these in personal consignments from outside the bloc, and Spain is no exception. Ghee, milk sweets, khoa-based mithai, dried or cured meat: none of it clears, however well sealed.
- Seeds, plants and fresh produce — European plant-health law requires a phytosanitary certificate the parcel cannot carry. Fresh curry leaves, coconut and garden seeds are refused.
- Counterfeit and brand-copy goods — Spain runs a large fashion industry of its own and enforces accordingly; lookalike logos and branded packaging are seized.
- Weapons, replicas and edged decorative pieces — ornamental swords, kirpans and decorative daggers all fall under Spanish weapons controls.
- Drug paraphernalia and cannabinoid products — pipes, grinders, scales, seeds and CBD preparations are blocked at parcel level.
- Ivory, coral and CITES-listed material — enforced strictly, and shell or coral set in jewellery counts.
- Aerosols, perfumes and loose lithium cells above 100 Wh — an aviation rule that applies from Bengaluru to everywhere.
Allowed with care
- Silk and cotton textiles — sarees, dupattas, handloom and stitched garments. State the fibre and a fair value; European textile rules make composition a declarable field.
- Filter coffee powder and dry masalas — sealed, commercially packed, ingredients printed on the pack. The powder ships; decoction and any liquid extract do not.
- Sealed dry snacks — chakli, mixture, banana chips, factory-packed with a legible allergen panel.
- Sandalwood soap and powder — manufactured goods, fine to send. The oil is a liquid and stays home.
- Small electronics and non-precious jewellery — declare make, model or material and the real value. Say "silver-plated brass" rather than "jewellery" so it is not assessed as precious metal.
- Books, certificates and printed papers — declare title and value and they move without difficulty.
- Anything going to Las Palmas or Tenerife — allowed, but it clears as a separate import into the Canary Islands rather than as an EU arrival. Tell us before booking so the paperwork is built for it.
A small community, an old trading link, and a growing tech crowd.
Spain has one of the smaller Indian populations in western Europe, which makes the composition of this lane unusual. It carries less family volume than the German route and more of two other things: business-school and tech traffic into Barcelona and Madrid, and a long-established trading connection most senders have never heard of.
Sindhi trading families and the Canary Islands
Sindhi merchant houses have traded out of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife since the early twentieth century, when the islands' free-port status made them a natural stop between Asia and the Atlantic. Those families are still there, and parcels to them are documents, samples and family goods. The islands clear separately from mainland Spain, so we build the paperwork differently and quote a longer window.
Tech and startup people in Barcelona
Barcelona has pulled in a steady stream of Indian engineers, product people and founders over the last decade, with Madrid and Valencia behind it. Sample hardware, packaging mockups and pitch material out of Koramangala, HSR Layout and Indiranagar, plus the household things that are simply not sold there.
Business-school students in Madrid and Barcelona
IE, IESE, ESADE and EADA take Indian cohorts every year, and Bengaluru is over-represented in them. Intake cartons in August and January — formal clothing for the recruitment cycle, bedding, cookware, sealed dry provisions. Give us the residence name, the floor and door, and a Spanish mobile.
Textile and garment sampling
Spanish fashion sources heavily from India, and Bengaluru's garment belt around Peenya and Mysore Road is part of that supply chain. Swatch cards, fit samples and small pre-production lots to buying offices in Madrid, Barcelona and A Coruña. Per-piece values, fibre composition, NIF of the receiving company.
Family parcels and festival clothing
Sarees, lehengas and sherwanis for weddings and celebrations, Deepavali parcels, and children's books in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi going to families in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Express and early — the Spanish band has less slack than the northern European ones.
Documents and homologación papers

The questions this route raises.
Is sending to Tenerife or Las Palmas the same as sending to Madrid?
No, and this surprises almost everyone. The Canary Islands are Spanish and part of the European Union politically, but they sit outside the EU customs union and outside the EU VAT area. A parcel to Las Palmas or Santa Cruz is therefore not an EU arrival that continues on a domestic leg — it is a separate import into the islands, with its own declaration, its own clearance and its own local taxes, the IGIC and where applicable the AIEM, rather than mainland Spanish IVA. In practice that means more paperwork, a real chance of the recipient being asked for documents locally, and a longer timeline than the 6–8 day mainland band. It is entirely doable and we ship it regularly, but tell us the destination is the Canaries when you book rather than letting us discover it from the postcode, so the invoice is written for an island import from the start.
My friend in Madrid doesn't have an NIE. Can the parcel still be sent?
It can be sent, but expect it to be asked for. Spanish import processing identifies the person receiving the goods by number — NIE for a foreign resident, DNI for a Spanish national, NIF for a company — and Aduanas uses it to link the shipment to a real person for tax purposes. Without one, the clearance file is incomplete and the parcel waits while somebody writes to your friend for the missing information, which from India costs three or four days. Almost anyone living in Spain legally has one of these, including students, so ask the question before you book rather than after the shipment stops moving. If your recipient genuinely has neither — a visitor staying in a hotel, for instance — tell us at pickup and we will document it differently and set your expectations on what that does to the timeline.
How much will my parcel cost my family in Spain to receive?
It depends on what you declare, and the answer is no longer "nothing" for small parcels. The EU removed the old low-value exemption, so Spanish IVA is charged on commercial goods at any value, with customs duty added above a €150 goods value; Correos or SEUR collects it from the recipient along with a handling fee before releasing the parcel. Genuine gifts between private individuals get a relief below €45 and should be declared as gifts with a truthful value. What does not work is writing a small number on a visibly valuable parcel — Aduanas has grown noticeably firmer about undervalued incoming shipments, and a challenged declaration means a verification round, a longer wait and often a higher final assessment than the honest figure would have produced. Declare properly and warn your family that a payment request arrives before the parcel does.
