Solapur is India's terry-towel and chaddar town — bedsheets and towels from here go to every state — and Bengaluru is a major buying market for them. What travels out from here is the buying side of that trade: approved sample pieces going back for matching, shade and yarn cards, printed labels and woven tags, packaging film and polybags, size and GSM specifications, and signed order sheets. Small in weight, large in box, and priced on the box — pack it tight.
Hospitality and institutional linen procurement
Bengaluru's hotels, service apartments, hospitals and hostel operators buy their towels and bedsheets in bulk from Solapur mills, and the paperwork and samples move constantly. Tender documents, approved swatches, embroidery and logo artwork proofs, first-piece approvals and quality rejection samples going back. These are deadline-bound consignments where the mill is waiting to start a run, so most of them go express with the mill's own contact person named on the AWB.

The mills here run on machinery that needs parts, and Bengaluru's engineering suppliers carry a lot of it. Common Bengaluru → Solapur misjudgements
- Naphthalene balls and camphor tablets packed in with linen — the most quietly common refusal on this route. Everybody who packs bedsheets and quilts wants to protect them, and mothballs and camphor are classed as flammable solids. They also transfer their smell into every parcel around them for the rest of the journey. Vacuum-pack the textiles instead.
- Textile dyes, softeners, bleach and finishing chemicals — sample bottles sent so a mill can match a finish. Liquid, often corrosive, refused whatever the quantity. Send a finished swatch and the technical sheet by email; let the chemical travel as a proper hazardous consignment on a different mode.
- Unmanufactured tobacco, tendu leaf and loose beedi stock — Solapur has a long-standing beedi industry and people assume the raw material moves like any other agricultural good. It does not: tobacco in unmanufactured form is a controlled, duty-sensitive commodity and we do not book it on this network at all.
- Aerosol fabric sprays, spray starch and spot removers — pressurised cans, every one of them, and they turn up in linen consignments and in personal parcels alike. Refused at booking if we see them, and pulled at sortation if we do not.
- Chocolate, wax candles, gel-based cosmetics and anything that melts — Solapur is one of the hottest cities in the country through April and May, with daytime temperatures that regularly sit in the forties. There is no temperature-controlled leg on this lane. A box of chocolates or a set of candles that would survive a Bengaluru summer will not survive a Solapur one, and a melted consignment is not a claim we can win for you.

The billed weight is the higher of the scale weight and the volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5000. A carton measuring 60 × 50 × 50 cm works out at 30 kg volumetric no matter what the scale says, so an 8 kg load of towels in that box is billed as 30. The fix is entirely in your hands. Vacuum or compression bags on quilts and towels, a carton sized to the compressed load rather than the loose one, no half-empty space at the top, and no double-boxing for cushioning that soft goods do not need. Done properly, the same consignment can drop two or three slabs. Does a Solapur booking cover Pandharpur, Akkalkot and Barshi — and does the Ashadhi pilgrimage affect delivery?
All of them are served, and yes, the pilgrimage is a real operational factor rather than a piece of local colour. Solapur city is delivered off the hub; Pandharpur, Akkalkot, Barshi, Mangalvedha and Kurduvadi sit in the wider 413xxx district and run on their own loops, typically at the outer end of the surface band rather than the inner. Pandharpur is the one to plan for. Around Ashadhi Ekadashi the town receives an enormous walking pilgrimage, roads into it are restricted or diverted, accommodation is full and normal commercial delivery slows to a crawl for several days on either side of the date. If you have something that must reach Pandharpur in that window, book it a clear week early and to an address that will be occupied — a shop or a relative's house, not a lodge someone has not checked into yet. The same advice applies in a milder form to Akkalkot on major temple days.
It gets to 44°C in Solapur in summer. Does that change what I should send?
It changes what survives, yes. Solapur runs among the hottest daytime temperatures in India through April and May, the line-haul is a closed vehicle, and there is no refrigerated or temperature-controlled option on this lane at any price. Anything with a melting point near body temperature is a bad idea in that season — chocolates, wax candles, gel cosmetics, lipsticks, crayons, soft-gel capsules, adhesive-backed material and vinyl printed stock all arrive changed. Solid, dry and sealed goods are unaffected: textiles, books, metal parts, sealed snacks, dry sweets, electronics in their own packaging. If you must send something borderline, book express so it spends one night in transit instead of three, pack it in the middle of a carton with insulation around it rather than against the wall of the box, and accept that we can improve the odds but cannot guarantee the outcome. In summer, most people are better off buying the meltable item locally and sending only what will not.
