Send a parcel from Bangalore to Siliguri. We pick up free.
About 2,300 kilometres — the longest lane we run out of Bengaluru short of the far Northeast. Surface takes 5–6 working days on DTDC, air express 3–4. Free pickup across Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, and this lane books heavily off the eastern tech belt where the hill and north Bengal community lives — Varthur, Kadugodi, Marathahalli, Bellandur and Whitefield.
Collected off east Bengaluru, run the length of the eastern seaboard, delivered at the foot of the hills.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Varthur, Kadugodi, Marathahalli and the Whitefield side are where this lane is booked from, and they are also the slowest addresses in the city to reach at the wrong hour — ask for a morning or late-evening slot and the rider will be with you inside two hours rather than fighting the tech-park exodus. Because it is a six-day journey at the outside, the packing is done properly at your door: corner protection, double taping and a written weight before anything is sealed.
Bengaluru sortation.
Into the DTDC Bengaluru facility on the same evening, and onto the next northbound trunk. This is the longest domestic lane on our Bengaluru board, and it is the one where booking early in the day pays back most obviously — an afternoon collection catches tonight's movement, an eleven o'clock one catches tomorrow's.
Seaboard line-haul, then north through Bengal.
The freight runs the length of the eastern seaboard into Bengal, then turns north through Malda and up the narrow corridor of land between Bangladesh and the Himalayan foothills — the strip that carries every road and rail link into Sikkim and the Northeast. Surface covers the full 2,300 kilometres in 5–6 working days. The express service flies out of Kempegowda into Bagdogra and delivers off the airport side of the city in 3–4.
Siliguri delivery.
Last-mile across the Siliguri pin family — Sevoke Road, Hakimpara, Khalpara, Pradhan Nagar, Matigara and the New Jalpaiguri side. The town itself is flat and easy to deliver in. What is not easy is anything beyond it: Kurseong, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok and the tea garden addresses in the Dooars are all separate pin families reached by hill road, and each is quoted and timed on its own.
POD on WhatsApp.
The proof of delivery — signature, stamped receipt or a photograph at the door — reaches your WhatsApp inside the hour once the consignment has been handed across.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Siliguri.
Weight is taken as actual or volumetric, whichever is the higher, with the fuel surcharge current on the day of booking added. GST is charged on top.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 5–6 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 3–4 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. On the longest lane on our board the three-day gap between surface and express is the widest we quote, and it widens further in the monsoon between June and September, when the hill roads north of the town are the real variable. If your consignment is going past Siliguri rather than to it, read the delivery notes and the first question below before you choose a service.
Parcels home to the hills, tea-trade material, wholesale stock and gear for the trekking season.
Parcels home to the hills and the plains below them
The steadiest traffic on this lane. Bengaluru employs a large community from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Sikkim — hospitality and hotel staff, café and retail crews, salon and wellness professionals, nurses, and a growing layer in the tech parks — and most of it lives out in the Varthur, Kadugodi and Marathahalli belt. What goes home is what any working household sends: clothing, a phone, medicines in their original packaging, school things for a younger sibling, and money's worth in goods before Dashain and Tihar in the autumn, when the volume climbs sharply for a fortnight.
Tea-trade packaging and brand material
Siliguri is the commercial centre of the tea belt around it — the Terai and Dooars gardens on the plains, the Darjeeling estates in the hills above — and a surprising amount of what a modern tea business needs is bought in Bengaluru. Printed cartons and cases, labels, tin caddies, sample pouches, brand collateral, trade-fair material and packaging for direct-to-consumer despatch. It is bulky, light and volumetric almost every time, so send us the carton dimensions rather than the weight when you ask for a price.
Wholesale stock for north Bengal's distribution trade
Siliguri is where goods for the whole of north Bengal, Sikkim and the hill districts are broken down and redistributed, and Bengaluru is a serious source of the small consumer goods that pass through it — garments, footwear, phone accessories, small electricals, packaged consumer lines. These move as bulk consignments over 35 kg on the same starting rate. Send a tax invoice with every consignment and generate an e-way bill where the value crosses the threshold, because a commercial consignment stopped for paperwork sits still for days.
Trekking and outdoor gear
Bengaluru has one of the country's better outdoor-equipment retail markets, and the hills above Siliguri are one of its main destinations. Rucksacks, sleeping bags, trekking poles, boots, layers, tents and rain shells go up this lane ahead of the spring and autumn seasons, sent both by individuals shipping to themselves before a trip and by operators restocking. Almost all of it ships without any trouble. The exceptions are consistent and important, and they are set out in the second card below — read it before you pack a stove.
Student and college traffic
The hills send a lot of students to Bengaluru's colleges, and the movement runs on the academic calendar in both directions. Bedding and trunks going home in April and May, books and equipment going up before a term, laptops travelling for a repair or a replacement, certificates and mark sheets moving for an admission. Books and paper are dense and cheap by weight and belong on surface; a laptop or a document with an admission date attached belongs on express.
Consignments addressed beyond Siliguri
A large share of what we book on this lane is not actually destined for the town. Sikkim, the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills, the Dooars garden addresses and much of the Northeast are all reached through this corridor, and Siliguri is the point where the plains journey ends and something slower begins. Book to the real final address rather than to the town — you get one AWB and a proof of delivery where the parcel is genuinely going — but price in the extra days for the hill leg, and read the first question below for what that leg actually looks like.
A short, real list.
The first card is refused across the DTDC network. The second is what actually gets pulled off this lane, and it is shaped by the fact that half of what people send here is either food from the hills or equipment for going into them:
Banned outright
- Compressed gas, butane and camping cartridges
- Flammable liquids and fuel of every kind
- Aerosols and pressurised sprays
- Perishables and anything needing a cold chain
- Alcohol, wine and spirits
- Cash, bullion and unset gemstones
Common Bengaluru → Siliguri misjudgements
- Camping gas cartridges and butane canisters — the most-attempted refusal on this route by a distance, because so much trekking gear is bought in Bengaluru and shipped up. A sealed fuel canister is compressed gas and cannot travel by road or by air on any service. Send the stove, leave the fuel; every trekking outfitter in Siliguri and Darjeeling sells cartridges.
- A camp stove that has already been used — this catches people who did the right thing with the canister. A liquid-fuel or multi-fuel stove that has been run still holds fuel residue and vapour in the line and the jet, and it is treated as a fuel item. Flush it, air it out for a day and send it dry, or send a new one in its sealed retail box.
- Waterproofing sprays, reproofing aerosols and aerosol insect repellent — sent along with the tent and the rain shell, and always for the Dooars trip where the insects are genuinely bad. All of them are pressurised flammable cans. Wash-in reproofers and pump-bottle repellents are liquids, which is no better. Buy both at the other end.
- Loose battery packs, power banks and spare head-torch cells — a battery fitted inside the device it belongs to is accepted on the surface service; a bare cell or a separate power bank rattling around in the same box is not, and nothing above 100 Wh can go on the air leg at all. Tell us at booking what electronics are inside and we will route the consignment correctly.
- Wet food and anything cooked — homemade pickle standing in oil, curd-based sweets, cooked dishes in a tiffin. On a five-to-six day journey these are simply not shippable. Worth saying plainly, because tea itself is one of the easiest things on this lane: dry, sealed, stable and moved in both directions every week without any restriction at all.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
You receive the AWB on WhatsApp the moment we book the consignment, the whole run stays visible on dtdc.in, and the delivery proof comes back on the same thread within an hour. The thing that shapes this lane more than any other is what sits above the town. Siliguri itself delivers easily — the streets are flat, the commercial areas are dense and well known to the riders, and a parcel with a mobile number on it lands without drama. The hill roads that leave it are a different proposition. The route up along the river towards Kalimpong and Gangtok is landslide-prone through the monsoon, and when it closes there is no quick alternative; freight for the hills is simply held at the foot of them until the road reopens. That is not a courier failing, it is the geography of a corridor with very few roads in it. If your consignment is going into the hills between June and September, ship it earlier than you would otherwise, keep the tracker open, and put a mobile number on the AWB for someone who is actually in the town the parcel is going to.
Specific to Bangalore → Siliguri.
Can you deliver beyond Siliguri to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Gangtok or the tea gardens?
Yes, all of them are served, and you should book straight to the final address rather than to Siliguri. What you need to price in is time, not access. Siliguri sits on the plain at the foot of the hills and is the last easy delivery on this route; everything above it is reached by hill road, on separate pin families, on their own delivery runs. In practice Kurseong and Kalimpong tend to add a working day over the town, Darjeeling and Gangtok tend to add more, and the Dooars garden addresses depend entirely on how far off the highway the estate office sits. Give us the exact pin code and the estate or locality name when you ask for a quote and we will time it properly instead of quoting you the town's figure. In the monsoon, add margin on top of all of that — see the next question.
How badly does the monsoon affect this route?
It affects the hills far more than it affects the town. Deliveries inside Siliguri carry on through the rains with little more than the ordinary seasonal friction. The hill roads out of it are the problem: the corridor has very few routes into the mountains, the main one runs along a river valley through unstable slopes, and between June and September it closes to landslides with no practical detour. When that happens freight for Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim waits at the bottom until it reopens, which can be hours or can be days. Nobody — us, DTDC, or anybody else moving goods up there — can guarantee a date through it, and we would rather tell you that at booking than after. What actually helps: ship a week earlier than you need to, use express so the parcel is at the foot of the hills sooner, and if the item is genuinely urgent, ask us about holding it at the Siliguri end for a local collection instead of waiting on the road.
Can I courier trekking and camping equipment from Bangalore for a trip in Sikkim?
Most of it, and this is a real category on this lane rather than a hypothetical one. Rucksacks, sleeping bags and mats, tents and poles, boots, jackets, layers, trekking poles, dry bags, a head torch with the battery inside it — all of that ships on surface without any complication, and it is far cheaper and less painful than paying excess baggage on the flight. Three things must come out of the box. Gas cartridges and any compressed fuel, which are prohibited outright. Aerosols of every kind, including waterproofing sprays and insect repellent. And a liquid-fuel stove that has already been used, unless it has been flushed and properly aired first. Loose power banks and spare lithium cells need to be declared so we route the consignment on surface. Send it to arrive a clear week before you fly, address it to wherever you are actually staying rather than to a trailhead, and put a working mobile number on it — a rucksack that reaches a hotel two days after you have left for the mountains helps nobody.
Tell us the rough weight. We’ll come back in minutes.
