The southern and western grid — Banashankari, Basavanagudi, Vijayanagar, Padmanabhanagar — is a fast run for us at most hours; Electronic City needs a two-hour window because of the elevated-road bottleneck. Same-evening handover into the DTDC Bengaluru facility. Nellore is short enough that a parcel picked up in the afternoon and booked that night is frequently out for delivery the next working day — but we quote the honest band, 1–2 days, rather than promising the good case.
East, then up the coast.
Out through Chittoor and the Tirupati side to meet the coastal highway, then a short northern run into Nellore. At roughly 400 km this is the shortest Andhra lane we run out of Bengaluru, and it is the one where surface and express sit in the same transit band — which is a real reason not to pay for express here.

Off the Nellore hub. The town spreads along the highway on the 524xxx series and the municipal area delivers quickly. What takes longer is the district: Kavali, Gudur, Sullurpeta and the mandals out toward the aqua belt are separate pins worked on branch beats, and generally sit a day behind the town.

Collection anywhere in Bengaluru is free from 5 kg upward on this route. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. Note the transit bands above carefully: surface and express are both 1–2 working days on Nellore, so on most consignments express buys you nothing but a higher bill. We will tell you that on the phone rather than let you book it. The exception is the mid-January Sankranti fortnight, when express gets priority handling at the destination and that priority is occasionally worth having.

Aquaculture equipment and spares
Nellore district is one of India's biggest shrimp and fish farming belts, and a working pond is a piece of machinery: aerators, blowers, motors, impellers, control panels, pond-monitoring sensors and dissolved-oxygen meters. A good deal of that hardware, and nearly all of the electronics, is sourced or repaired in Bengaluru. These are urgent parcels — a failed aerator is a live problem — so they move on the first available booking and we crate anything heavy in timber and foam.
Rice-trade documents and sample lots
Nellore is a rice district and the trade runs on paperwork: contracts, quality certificates, lab reports, invoices and small graded sample lots going to buyers and brokers. Sample bags travel fine as a sealed, dry commodity; the documents go express with the recipient's mobile on the AWB. Regular traders take a monthly contract rate rather than booking parcel by parcel.
Retail restocking for the Trunk Road shops
Nellore's main commercial street buys small fast-moving lines out of Bengaluru — mobile accessories, footwear, ready-made garments, imitation jewellery, stationery and display fittings. At 400 km with a 1–2 day surface transit, a shop can reorder on a Monday and put stock on the shelf by Wednesday, which is why this segment is weekly rather than occasional.
College and hostel parcels
The engineering and degree colleges in and around Nellore draw students whose families work in Bengaluru, and the traffic is what you would expect: books, a laptop, bedding, a set of clothes, admission and scholarship documents that have to be physically signed. Semester start and exam season are the two visible peaks in the year.
Sankranti and family shipments
The short haul means people send more casually on this lane than on the long ones — a saree bought in Jayanagar, a gift for a naming ceremony, medicines for a parent, a replacement phone. From late December it turns into a flood of Sankranti parcels, and mid-January is the busiest fortnight of the year on this route by a distance.
Farmhouse and construction hardware
Fittings, fasteners, pump parts, electrical items, small tools and irrigation components going out to properties in the district. Weight-based, unfussy, surface-routed. Where the delivery address is farmland rather than a street, read the address FAQ below before you book — that is the single biggest cause of a failed attempt on this lane.
The refusals that actually matter here.
These are refused by DTDC and by every network we book into. The second card is what people actually attempt from Bengaluru to an aquaculture-and-rice district, which is a different list from anywhere else in this set:

Common Bengaluru → Nellore misjudgements
- Fresh or frozen prawns, fish and seafood — the refusal that defines this lane, and it goes in both directions. There is no cold chain on a general courier network. Chilled seafood in a thermocol box thaws inside a few hours in a truck, leaks brine through the carton, and ruins every parcel stacked against it. We will not book it, and no amount of ice packs changes the answer.
- Dried fish, prawn podi and karam with dried fish in it — legal to carry, refused in practice. The odour transfers permanently to other consignments and the packaging weeps oil in the heat. Do not slip it into a food parcel.
- Aqua-farm chemicals and pond treatments — probiotics, disinfectants, lime preparations, water conditioners. Attempted regularly on this route because they look like ordinary farm supplies. They are chemicals, most are liquids, and they are refused. Order those locally.
- Live shrimp seed and hatchery fry — sent as "a small packet of water". It is live cargo and a liquid at once, and it is refused on both counts.
- Ghee, sesame oil and wet pickle — the standard family parcel mistake, common on a short lane where people assume the rules relax. Dry podi and sealed dry sweets are fine. Nothing pourable is, regardless of distance.

You get the AWB on WhatsApp as soon as the booking is made, and it goes live on the public tracker at dtdc.in straight away. Proof of delivery comes back within an hour of the handover. Nellore is a short lane, so the transit is rarely the problem — the address is. A large share of deliveries here are to houses without a door number, to farm and pond sites reached by an unnamed road, or to shops that shut in the afternoon. The recipient's mobile number is what makes those deliveries work: the rider phones from the nearest junction and is guided in. Put a landmark on the address as well. Without both, a parcel that could have been delivered in a day sits for another one.

Can I send prawns or seafood between Bangalore and Nellore?
No — not fresh, not frozen, not packed in ice, not in a thermocol box, and this is a genuine refusal rather than a formality on a district that farms shrimp for a living. A general courier network has no refrigerated leg. Even on a 400 km run that is 1–2 working days, a chilled box spends that time at ambient temperature in a truck and in a sorting hall. It thaws, it leaks, and the brine gets into whatever is stacked around it, which then becomes several damage claims. Dried fish is not a way around it either: it is refused for odour transfer and leakage. If you need seafood moved, it needs a cold-chain specialist, not a parcel network — and we would rather tell you that than take the booking.
The delivery address is a farm with no door number. What do you need from me?
A working mobile number for someone who will actually be at the site, and a landmark that a local rider would recognise — a mandal name, a junction, a temple, a school, the nearest village. That combination is what gets rural and aqua-belt deliveries done, and it matters far more here than the street address does. It also helps to tell us roughly when someone will be there: a farm gate at two in the afternoon is often empty. If the site is genuinely hard to reach, the honest option is to have the parcel delivered to a house or shop in the town and collected from there, and we will suggest that if the address you give us looks like it will not work.
Do you deliver to Kavali, Gudur and the rest of the district, or only Nellore town?
The whole district is covered, but not on the same clock. Nellore town sits on the 524xxx pin series and is worked directly off the hub, usually on the first delivery day. Kavali, Gudur, Sullurpeta and the smaller mandal towns are separate pins served on branch beats, and they typically run a day behind the town — so a parcel that reaches Nellore on day one may be delivered on day two out there. Give us the destination pin code when you book and we will tell you which of the two you are looking at, instead of you finding out from the tracker.
