Domestic route · Bangalore → Kakinada

Send a parcel from Bangalore to Kakinada. We pick up free.

About 855 kilometres — up NH44, east across Rayalaseema to the Krishna, then the coast highway north-east and a short spur out to the sea. That is 2–3 working days on surface and 1–2 on the express leg. Pickup anywhere in Bengaluru is free at 5 kg and above; on this lane it clusters in the older north-east — Hennur, Kammanahalli, Frazer Town, Cooke Town and Sanjaynagar.

02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, the long north-east run to the coast, delivery across Kakinada, the port and Konaseema.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Usually 60–90 minutes from the call. A lot of what we collect for Kakinada comes from the older north-eastern neighbourhoods — Hennur, Kammanahalli, Frazer Town, Cooke Town and Sanjaynagar — where settled coastal-Andhra families and small trading offices sit side by side. We weigh at the door, seal in front of you, and note the exact carton dimensions on the docket.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

It is handed into DTDC's Bengaluru facility the evening of pickup. Kakinada moves with the coastal Andhra flow and then off it, which is the important operational detail on this route: the last stretch is a spur off the main coastal artery rather than a stop on it, so the destination hub cut-off matters more here than the length of the highway does.

STEP

NH44, NH16, then the spur.

North to the Kurnool region, east to the Krishna, then up the coast highway past Eluru and the Godavari crossing before turning east onto the Kakinada spur. Surface covers it in 2–3 working days and the air leg brings it to 1–2. Humidity and salt air are constants at the delivery end — worth a thought at the packing stage rather than the complaint stage.

STEP

Kakinada delivery.

Off the Kakinada hub. The town, the Main Road and Bhanugudi Junction commercial stretch, the university side and the port approach are the quick beats. The SEZ, the deep-water terminal and the refinery and fertiliser gates are gate-controlled addresses. Amalapuram, Konaseema, Uppada, Tuni and Pithapuram are separate district loops, and Konaseema addresses can involve a ferry or a long detour around a canal.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Signature or a stamped inward slip comes back to your WhatsApp within the hour of delivery. For anything handed in at a plant or terminal security desk we also ask the rider to record the name and designation of the person who received it, because a gate signature with no name attached is impossible to chase later.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Kakinada.

Billed on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, plus the fuel surcharge in force on the booking date. GST is charged separately.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 2–3 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Free collection anywhere in Bengaluru once the parcel reaches 5 kg. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — check it on cased instruments and on anything shipped in a moulded crate, where the case can cost more than the contents weigh. The packing advice that is specific to this destination is moisture: Kakinada is a coastal town with high humidity most of the year, so electronics, tools, steel parts and printed material should go into a sealed polythene liner with a silica sachet before the carton is closed. That costs nothing at pickup and saves a corroded connector at the other end.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Kakinada

Cargo-survey and refinery instruments, export paperwork, and the Konaseema families.

Cargo survey and bulk-handling instruments

Kakinada is a bulk cargo port — agri commodities, fertiliser, edible oil — and the surveyors, inspection agencies and terminal operators around it run on measurement equipment bought and serviced in Bengaluru. Moisture meters, grain probes and samplers, weighbridge load cells and indicators, draught survey instruments, flow and level transmitters, and the same equipment going back for calibration. Almost always express, almost always because a vessel or a rake is waiting on the reading.

Refinery and process-plant spares

The edible-oil refining and fertiliser units on this coast buy their small-part supply from Bengaluru's engineering and instrumentation trade: gaskets and seal kits, valve internals, pressure and temperature sensors, control cards, motor drives and safety gear. Heavy and dense, so they bill on actual weight rather than the box, and they need to be immobilised inside the carton — a loose steel part will work through a wall over 855 kilometres.

Aqua export documentation and buyer samples

The shrimp and aqua processing industry here exports, and export runs on paper. Signed contracts and purchase orders, health and residue test reports, packing lists, certificates and label artwork proofs move constantly between Bengaluru offices and Kakinada processors. Small envelopes with real deadlines: send them express with a named recipient. We move the documents; we do not act as a customs or clearing agent, so plan that part separately.

Handloom orders for the Uppada weavers

Uppada, on the coast just north of the town, is a jamdani weaving centre that Bengaluru's saree retailers and boutiques buy from directly. Out of here go design files and graph sheets, colour references, zari and thread lots for matching, labels, packaging and order sheets; back come finished sarees. Textiles are light and bulky, so pack them flat and tight and check the volumetric number before you book anything in quantity.

University and college parcels

The engineering university and the colleges around the town draw students from across the delta districts, and plenty of their families are working in Bengaluru. Books and printed material, a laptop, hostel bedding, documents for admission and scholarship files that must be signed in ink. June and July are the heaviest weeks. Write the hostel name and room number and the student's own mobile on the AWB, because hostel offices will not take an unreachable parcel.

Family parcels to the delta

The everyday half of this lane. Bengaluru's coastal-Andhra households send clothes and gifts to parents, medicines and spectacles to elders, school certificates, kitchen equipment bought here and a phone set up before it was posted. Konaseema addresses need more care than town addresses — mandal name, a landmark, and a number that will be answered — because the delivery beat out there covers a lot of ground in one loop.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first block is refused by DTDC and by every network with an air leg. The second block is what people genuinely attempt on a lane running into a port, refinery and seafood town:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of any kind, in any packaging
  • Ammonia and other process chemicals
  • Aerosol tins, sprays and pressurised containers
  • Corrosives, acids and lab reagents
  • Explosives, flares and marine pyrotechnics
  • Currency, bullion and uncut precious stones

Common Bengaluru → Kakinada misjudgements

  • Dry ice and gel packs — the refusal that surprises people most on this lane. Dry ice is a declarable dangerous good on an air leg, and frozen gel packs simply thaw into a leak. If a consignment needs to stay cold, a courier network is the wrong mode entirely — there is no cold chain on this route in either direction.
  • Frozen, iced or fresh seafood — asked about weekly on a shrimp-exporting coast, and refused every time. Prawn, fish and crab in any chilled or wet form have no temperature-controlled leg here, they leak brine through a shared line-haul and they damage every parcel stacked around them.
  • Edible-oil samples and palm olein in tins — refineries and traders send small tins out for third-party lab testing as a matter of routine. It is a liquid and it is refused whatever the volume or the seal. Send the certificate of analysis by email and move the physical sample on a proper freight consignment.
  • Outboard, pump and generator parts with residual fuel — a returned or replaced part that still has diesel or petrol wet inside it is a flammable article, not a spare. Drain it, dry it, and tell us it has been drained. New parts and clean-cleaned assemblies travel without any problem at all.
  • Kaja and other syrup-soaked sweets — the town's own sweet is drenched in sugar syrup, and family parcels going out to relatives try it constantly. Dry sweets, sealed farsan and packaged snacks are fine. Syrup soaks the box, attracts every ant on the route, and turns one gift into several ruined parcels.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

We push the AWB number to your WhatsApp as soon as the consignment is booked into DTDC, and you can follow every scan yourself at dtdc.in. We forward the delivery proof inside the hour of handover. What decides the last mile here is the kind of address you are shipping to. Town addresses are straightforward with a phone number on the docket. Port, terminal, SEZ and plant addresses are gate-controlled: entry needs a named receiver, often a gate pass raised in advance, and there is a fixed inward-material window that closes well before the working day does. Konaseema and delta addresses can involve a ferry crossing or a long canal detour, so the beat reaches them on set runs rather than on demand. Tell us which of the three you are sending to and we will set the expectation honestly before the parcel leaves Bengaluru.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Kakinada.

Can you deliver inside the port, the SEZ or a refinery gate at Kakinada?

Yes, those addresses are served, but they are not door deliveries in the way a house is and it is better to know that at booking. A port terminal, an SEZ unit or a refinery gate operates a controlled entry: the rider hands over at a security or stores point rather than walking to a desk, entry usually requires the consignment to be addressed to a named person in a named department, and many units want a gate pass raised in advance against a purchase order or delivery challan number. There is also an inward-material window — commonly ending in the afternoon — and a rider who arrives after it closes is turned away and returns the next working day, which looks like a transit failure on the tracker but is really an access failure. So give us four things when you book: the department, the receiving person's name, a mobile that will be answered, and the PO or challan reference their security desk will ask for. Then tell your contact it is coming. Handled that way, the industrial addresses here run no slower than the town.

Can I send or receive prawns and seafood, and what about dry ice or ice packs?

No to all of it, and this is the most frequent request we turn down on this route. Fresh, chilled or frozen seafood cannot travel on a courier network: there is no refrigerated leg on this lane at any price, a thawing consignment leaks brine into everything stacked near it, and the smell transfers to parcels that have nothing to do with yours. Dry ice makes it worse rather than better — it is a declarable dangerous good on the air leg and it is refused at booking. Frozen gel packs are refused for the plain reason that they melt into a liquid within hours. What is perfectly acceptable is properly dried and commercially packed product in sealed retail packaging with an invoice, provided it is genuinely dry and odour-sealed; ask us before you pack it and we will tell you whether the packaging you have will pass. If the shipment is a commercial export lot, it belongs with a cold-chain freight operator, not with any courier.

Kakinada is humid and salty. How should I pack electronics and metal parts for it?

Seal them, and do it before the carton is closed rather than after you hear about corrosion. This is a coastal town where humidity stays high for most of the year and salt-laden air reaches well inland, and a parcel travels in a closed vehicle where warm air condenses as the temperature swings between the plateau and the coast. Our standard packing for this destination is simple and it works: put the item in a sealed polythene bag with a silica gel sachet, wrap that in bubble, and only then place it in the carton with void fill around it. For circuit boards, sensors and control cards, an anti-static bag inside the sealed bag. For bare steel parts, tools and machined components, a light oil film or VCI paper before bagging. For books, certificates and printed material, a sealed sleeve — paper takes up moisture faster than anything else in a box and arrives wavy. None of this costs anything meaningful and our rider carries the material, so tell us what is going and we will pack it that way at your door.
