Send a parcel from Bangalore to Jamshedpur. We pick up free.
About 1,700 kilometres, run up the eastern seaboard and then inland off the Odisha highway into the steel city. DTDC surface is 4–5 working days, express 2–3. Free pickup across Bengaluru at 5 kg and above — on this lane most of it comes off the industrial north-west, from Peenya, Jalahalli and Yeshwanthpur, and off the corporate belt at Domlur and CV Raman Nagar.
Collected off the Peenya industrial belt, run up the coast, delivered across Sakchi, Bistupur and the works colonies.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Workshop and unit addresses in Peenya, Jalahalli and Yeshwanthpur are best booked against a shift end — tell us when your dispatch window closes and the rider works to it rather than to a vague slot. Office pickups at Domlur, CV Raman Nagar and the eastern corporate parks take roughly ninety minutes in the middle of the day and longer once the evening starts. The rider carries strapping and a scale, and a machined part gets weighed, wrapped and boxed at your bench before it moves.
Bengaluru sortation.
The consignment is booked into the DTDC Bengaluru operation the same evening it leaves you. Anything with a commercial invoice or an e-way bill attached is worth handing over early in the day, because paperwork queries are far easier to settle while your dispatch desk is still staffed than at eleven at night.
Coastal line-haul, then inland.
The road leg runs north along the eastern seaboard through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, then turns inland off the trunk highway for the last stretch into Jharkhand. Surface takes 4–5 working days end to end. The express option flies out of Kempegowda to the nearest served airport in the region and roads in over the final couple of hours, which brings the door-to-door figure to 2–3 working days.
Jamshedpur delivery.
Delivery runs across the 831xxx pin family — Sakchi, Bistupur, Kadma, Sonari, Golmuri, Mango and the works colonies. Jamshedpur is a planned company town, so the addresses are unusually clean once you use them properly: road number, quarter or house number, area. What is not inside the city pin family is the Adityapur industrial belt across the river, which carries its own pin series and its own delivery run.
POD on WhatsApp.
The gate inward slip, stamped receipt or signature image comes back to your WhatsApp within an hour of the consignment being accepted at the far end — which on an industrial delivery is often the security post rather than the department.
Starting rates, Bangalore → Jamshedpur.
The bill is calculated on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, with the fuel surcharge current on the booking date added on. GST is separate.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 4–5 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Pickup is free everywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above. Volumetric is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. This is one of the few lanes where volumetric usually works in your favour rather than against you — machined spares and castings are dense, so you are billed on real weight. It bites the other way on student trunks and bedding at the start of a term. Consignments over 35 kg move as bulk on the same starting rate, which is how most vendor dispatches to the plant belt go out.
Plant spares from the Peenya workshops, XLRI traffic in both directions, and company-town family parcels.
Machined spares and vendor supply
The commercial spine of this lane. Bengaluru's Peenya and Jalahalli belt is one of the larger concentrations of precision engineering, tooling and instrumentation in the country, and Jamshedpur's plant and its vendor ecosystem buy from it steadily — bearings, bushes, seals, machined replacements, hydraulic fittings, control and sensor hardware, calibration instruments. Pack in a cleated wooden crate or a double-wall carton with the part immobilised, tape the invoice into a document pouch on the outside, and tell us the declared value so the cover matches what is inside.
XLRI, both directions
Jamshedpur's management school pulls students in from across the country and sends them out into exactly the companies that recruit in Bengaluru, which makes this a genuinely two-way student lane rather than a one-way one. Trunks and bedding going up at the start of a term, laptops and printed case material during it, a boxed-up hostel room coming back at the end, and interview formals shipped in a hurry during placement season. Term-start and term-end weeks are the two peaks; book a few days off either and the lane behaves.
Company-town family parcels
Jamshedpur has an unusually settled resident population — families who have lived in the same colony for two and three generations — and a younger layer of that family working in Bengaluru. What moves is the ordinary stuff of that arrangement: clothes for parents, a replacement appliance, festival gifts, school and college paperwork, a phone for a younger sibling. Small, regular, usually well under ten kilos, and almost always surface.
Documents for the works and the vendor offices
Purchase orders, signed contracts, test certificates, material certificates, calibration reports, tender submissions and drawings that must arrive as paper with a wet signature on them. These always go express and always carry the recipient's name, department and mobile number, because a document envelope addressed only to a company name at a plant gate is the easiest thing in the world to lose inside a large organisation.
Relocation cartons, both ways
People move between Bengaluru and Jamshedpur for work more often than the size of the city suggests, and a partial relocation by courier is consistently cheaper than a packers-and-movers quote for the same volume. Books, kitchen kit, a monitor, bedding, a fan. Break it into cartons you can each lift rather than one heroic box, number them, and give us the whole set at once so they travel together on the same trunk.
Tools and workshop consumables
Hand tools, measuring instruments, drill and tap sets, spare jigs, tooling inserts, safety helmets and gloves going to a vendor unit or a small workshop. Almost all of it ships without any complication, and the exceptions are predictable — anything in a spray can, anything wet, and the two-part chemical kits that arrive packed alongside the tool they are meant to be used with. The list below covers what actually gets pulled at sortation on this route.
A short, real list.
The first card is network-wide. The second is written for an industrial lane, because the things that get refused between Bengaluru's workshops and Jharkhand's plant belt are not what gets refused on a family route:
Banned outright
- Compressed gas cylinders and pressurised vessels
- Flammable liquids, solvents and thinners
- Corrosives, acids and electrolyte
- Explosives, detonators and blasting material
- Radioactive sources and industrial isotopes
- Currency, bullion and unset stones
Common Bengaluru → Jamshedpur misjudgements
- Spares still wet with cutting oil or rust preventive — the single most common reason a dispatch from this lane comes back off the sortation belt. The part is fine; the oil film soaking through the wrap is a leaking liquid as far as the network is concerned. Degrease it, wrap it in VCI paper or a sealed poly bag with a desiccant, and it goes without a murmur.
- Aerosol lubricants, penetrating sprays and contact cleaner — sent with the spare, out of helpfulness, on almost every second dispatch we correct. Every one of them is a pressurised flammable can and none of them can travel by road or air. The mechanical part ships today; buy the spray at the other end.
- Two-part epoxies, thread-locking compounds and industrial adhesives — these read as consumables and are classified as chemicals. Small retail-packaged tubes are sometimes acceptable with the safety data sheet; bulk tins and anything with a flammability pictogram are not. Send us the sheet on WhatsApp before you pack and we will give you an answer in minutes.
- Lead-acid and UPS batteries — a wet cell full of acid cannot travel on any courier network in any service. This includes the small sealed units people send with a control panel or an inverter. Ship the equipment; source the battery locally.
- Strong permanent magnets, loose or in an assembly — magnetised material is a restricted class on the air leg specifically, and a magnet packed loose next to other consignments is a genuine problem rather than a technicality. If a magnet is part of what you are sending, declare it at booking so we route it on surface with proper shielding.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
Your AWB reaches you on WhatsApp at the moment of booking, the run is visible throughout on dtdc.in, and the delivery proof follows within an hour of handover. Jamshedpur's delivery reality is shaped by the fact that it is a company town rather than an ordinary municipal city. Addresses inside the works and the company colonies are gate-controlled: the rider hands over at a security post or a gate office, not at a department door, and the inward slip from that post is what you receive as the POD. Put the recipient's name, department, road number and mobile on the label, because a gate that cannot identify an addressee turns the consignment away rather than holding it. For deliveries at Sakchi, Bistupur and the market areas, note that the commercial streets keep their own working hours and a Sunday attempt is often a wasted one.
Specific to Bangalore → Jamshedpur.
Is Adityapur covered under a Jamshedpur booking, or is it billed separately?
It is served, but it is not the same delivery area and you should quote it as its own address. Jamshedpur city sits in the 831xxx pin family and covers Sakchi, Bistupur, Kadma, Sonari, Golmuri and Mango. The Adityapur industrial belt lies across the river in a neighbouring district with its own pin series and its own delivery run, which in practice can mean an extra working day and sometimes a different rate. None of that is a problem if you tell us at booking. Give us the exact pin code from the unit's letterhead, the plot or shed number, the name of the estate, and a mobile number for someone at the gate. Industrial estates also observe dispatch and receiving hours, so a consignment arriving late on a Saturday will normally be delivered on the next working morning rather than the same evening.
Can I send a machined part or a plant spare from Bangalore by courier?
Yes — it is a large share of what we book on this route, and there is nothing unusual about it as long as three things are right. The part must be clean and dry: no film of cutting oil, no rust-preventive weeping through the wrap, no loose swarf in the box. It must be immobilised, because a heavy component that shifts inside a carton on a four-day road journey will punch out through the side; a cleated wooden case or a double-wall carton with a foam bed is the standard. And it must carry paperwork — a tax invoice, an e-way bill where the value crosses the threshold, and the declared value given to us at booking so cover matches contents. Do not put the aerosol lubricant, the epoxy or the battery in the same box, however sensible that feels. Those are the items that get the whole consignment stopped.
My child is joining a course in Jamshedpur. Is courier cheaper than carrying luggage on a flight?
Almost always, and less painful. A trunk, bedding, books and a kettle add up to a lot of excess baggage on a flight, and Jamshedpur has no convenient airport of its own, so the flight version ends in a road transfer with the luggage anyway. Sent as a consignment, the same load goes at from ₹120 a kilo on surface with free pickup from your Bengaluru address and delivery to the hostel. Two things to watch: bedding and soft luggage measure large and light, so the volumetric figure will often be what you are billed on — compress it into vacuum bags and you can drop a whole weight slab. And send it a clear week before the reporting date, because term-start week is when every other parent is doing exactly the same thing.
Tell us the rough weight. We’ll come back in minutes.
A real person at your Bengaluru door, in about an hour.
WhatsApp us the pickup address, a rough weight and what is inside, or call and let us size it properly. The Bengaluru desk is staffed 24×7, so a dispatch that clears your workshop at the end of a late shift can still be collected the same night.
