On the difference between the two services we would rather be useful than salesy: at 3,200 kilometres the road option is genuinely slow, and the ₹60 a kilo extra for air buys back three to four working days plus a great deal less exposure to whatever the hill highways are doing that week. The reason this lane exists. Bengaluru has drawn a very large Manipuri population over the past two decades — undergraduates and postgraduates across the city's colleges, hotel and restaurant staff, retail and airline crews, salon professionals, nurses and a growing number in technology and design — and a good part of it lives in and around Kammanahalli, Hennur and the southern PG belt. What travels back to the valley is what any young person working away from home sends: clothes, footwear, a phone, medicines, a gift for a parent, and money's worth of goods before the festival weeks. It is a homeward lane above everything else, and it is written here that way.
Sports equipment and training kit
Manipur produces an extraordinary number of India's boxers, weightlifters, footballers and archers for a state its size, and Bengaluru is one of the places its young athletes come to train and study. The kit moves in both directions and this is a real category on the route, not a decorative one: boxing gloves, pads and wraps, football boots and training gear, weightlifting belts and shoes, running spikes, archery accessories, physio and strapping supplies, team uniforms. Almost all of it books without complication. The exceptions are set out in the second card below and are worth reading before you pack anything used in a shooting discipline.
Handloom, in both directions
Manipur has one of the densest concentrations of working handlooms in the country, and the cloth it produces — the phanek and innaphi, the Moirang phee with its distinctive temple-motif border, Wangkhei phee, shawls and stoles — has a real market outside the state. Bengaluru buyers, boutiques and diaspora customers order directly from weavers and from sellers at the Ima Keithel, the women-run market at the centre of the city. Cloth is close to ideal courier cargo: light, unbreakable, unrestricted, and easy to pack flat. It is also volumetric almost every time, so pack it in the shallowest carton that will hold it and it will cost you less.
Medicines and post-treatment follow-up
Families travel to Bengaluru's hospitals from all over the Northeast, and once they are home the aftercare arrives by courier. Sealed prescription medicine with a copy of the prescription in the box, scan films, discharge summaries, reports for a review consultation, orthopaedic supports. On a lane where surface can run to eight working days before the last leg, we recommend the air service for anything medical without hesitation and we would rather lose the argument about cost than have someone waiting on a truck for a repeat prescription.
Documents, admissions and exam paperwork
Manipur University at Canchipur, the medical and technical institutes around the valley, and the steady flow of students moving between them and Bengaluru's colleges generate a constant traffic of paperwork — transcripts, mark sheets, migration and scholarship documents, admission letters, verification packets. All of it is light, all of it is cheap to send by air, and almost all of it has a date attached. Relocations and end-of-course moves
When a degree finishes or a job in Bengaluru ends, a room has to become cartons. Books, bedding, a monitor, kitchen equipment, clothes, a fan. Common Bengaluru → Imphal misjudgements
- Ngari, fermented fish and bamboo shoot in brine — the food people most want to move on this lane, and the food that cannot go. Fermented fish, soibum in its liquid, home-made eromba and anything packed in brine are perishable, wet and prone to leaking, and a container that opens inside a carton on a week-long journey destroys everything travelling with it. Dry, factory-sealed and shelf-stable items — packaged snacks, dry spice blends, sealed dry chilli, packaged sweets with a printed shelf life — travel in both directions without any trouble.
- Air pistols, air rifles, pellets and slugs — a genuine question on a lane with this much sporting traffic, and the answer is a flat no. Air weapons and their ammunition are classed as arms and are refused on every service. Boxing, football, weightlifting, athletics and archery equipment are all perfectly shippable; anything that fires a projectile is not, whatever it is used for.
- Deodorant sprays, dry shampoo and body mist — put into student and family parcels almost as an afterthought, and stopped every time. They are pressurised flammable cans and cannot travel by road or by air. Roll-ons, solid stick deodorant, soaps, sealed powders and packaged cosmetics in non-flammable form are all fine.
- Loose power banks and spare device batteries — a battery installed inside the laptop or phone it belongs to is accepted on surface routing. A bare cell, a separate power bank or a drone battery pack is not carried, and nothing above 100 Wh goes on the air leg. Declare the electronics in the box when you book so the consignment is routed correctly the first time.
- Loose tablets and decanted medicine — send prescription medicine in its original carton with the batch and expiry printed on it and the prescription copy inside, and it moves without a question. Strips with no packaging, syrups poured into another bottle and anything on the controlled or scheduled lists cannot be booked.

Is service to Imphal running, and what happens if a route is disrupted?
We confirm it before we take your money, every time. Service on some routes into and within Manipur can be interrupted, so the desk checks current serviceability for your specific destination pin code with the network at the point of booking rather than accepting the consignment and hoping. If the pin is being served, we book it and give you the AWB and an honest transit estimate. If it is not, we tell you straight away and you decide whether to hold the parcel or send it when the route reopens — we will not take a booking we cannot move. If a disruption begins after a consignment is already in transit, it is held safely at the nearest facility rather than returned, tracking will show where it is sitting, and we will tell you what we know instead of leaving you to guess from the scan history. Can I have handloom sent down from Imphal to Bengaluru — phanek, Moirang phee, shawls?
Yes, and it is one of the more satisfying things we book on this route. Handloom textiles are unrestricted, light and durable, so a long surface run does them no harm at all, and the same 6–8 day figure applies coming down as going up with 4–5 by air. Fold the cloth flat, wrap it in a plastic sheet or a sealed poly bag against moisture inside the carton, and use the shallowest box that will hold it — cloth is bulky for its weight, so you will almost certainly be billed on volumetric weight and box depth is what you are paying for. If it is a commercial consignment from a weaver or a seller rather than a personal one, send a tax invoice with it and raise an e-way bill where the value requires it. Buyers and boutiques who order every month should ask us about a standing arrangement instead of booking each parcel at the counter.
Can I send sports equipment to Imphal, and is anything in a kit bag refused?
Most of a kit bag travels without any issue. Boxing gloves, hand wraps, headguards and pads, football boots and training kit, weightlifting shoes and belts, running spikes, archery accessories, mats, strapping and physio supplies, team uniforms — all of it books normally and packs down well for a long surface run. Three things have to stay behind. Anything classed as an arm or ammunition, which includes air pistols, air rifles and pellets, whatever the sport. Aerosol pain sprays, freeze sprays and deodorants, which are pressurised cans. And loose battery packs for timing gear or cameras, which have to be inside the device they power. If a piece of equipment has a date attached to it — a tournament, a training camp, a selection trial — book it on express and tell us the date, because eight working days is a long time to be waiting on a pair of boots.
