02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, western trunk line-haul, delivery into a numbered sector grid and the GIFT City towers.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Usually inside 60–90 minutes of your call. Two catchments dominate this lane. The first is the financial and consulting office belt around Domlur and Old Airport Road, which is where most of the GIFT City freight originates. The second is the Hosur Road side — Bommanahalli, BTM Layout — and Hennur on the north, where a lot of the family and campus parcels start. We come with packing material and a scale; nothing leaves unweighed.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Into DTDC's Bengaluru facility the same evening you hand it over. Bookings taken through the working day make that night's western departure; anything handed over very late still goes into the system that night and leaves the following one, which on a 4–5 day lane is a day you would rather not lose.

STEP

Western trunk line-haul.

NH48 through Hubballi and Pune, across the Mumbai belt, then Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Gandhinagar sits a short run beyond Ahmedabad on the same corridor, which is why the surface quote carries Ahmedabad's 4–5 day band rather than the faster south Gujarat one. Air express out of Kempegowda delivers in 2–3.

STEP

Gandhinagar delivery.

Last-mile across the 382xxx series. This is a planned city and it is addressed like one: numbered sectors, each cut into blocks by the lettered road grid, with plot numbers instead of the landmark chains you get in an organically grown city. Sector addresses, the Secretariat blocks, Infocity and the institutional campuses on the northern side are all served, and GIFT City sits in the same pin family on its own gated campus across the Sabarmati.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Once the parcel is signed for we push the proof of delivery — the signature image or the receiving counter's stamped slip — straight to your WhatsApp, usually within the hour.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Gandhinagar.

You are billed on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge in force on the booking date. GST is charged separately.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 4–5 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free across Bengaluru on this lane at 5 kg and above. Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 — exhibition standees, roll-up banners and display panels are the classic trap here, because a tube of printed fabric weighs almost nothing and measures out at three times its scale weight. The other thing that shapes delivery on this lane is the government calendar. Offices in the capital keep a weekday week, and Gujarat closes almost completely for Uttarayan in mid-January, so a surface parcel timed into either window sits until the counters reopen.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Gandhinagar

Capital-city paperwork, GIFT City office freight, and parcels to the national institutes on the north side.

Tender sets and departmental submissions

Gandhinagar is where Gujarat's departments, boards and corporations actually sit, so the bid documents, technical volumes, empanelment files and compliance affidavits that Bengaluru firms prepare all end up here. These are date-bound by definition. Express routing, the receiving officer's name and department on the label, and the recipient's mobile on the AWB — and if there is a closing hour rather than just a closing date, say so when you book.

GIFT City office freight

A genuine B2B lane of its own. Bengaluru fintechs, fund managers, insurers and advisory firms setting up IFSC units in the GIFT towers ship the whole apparatus of a new office: laptops and docking stations, monitors, signage and wall graphics, statutory registers, company seals and embossers, board minute books, and certified copies of everything the regulator asks for twice. Recurring weekly slots and a contract rate sheet are available if you are shipping through a fit-out.

Exhibition and summit material

Mahatma Mandir draws large conferences and trade summits, and the material for them travels ahead of the delegates — pull-up banners, fabric backdrops, printed collateral, product demonstration units, giveaway boxes. Bulky, light, and billed on volume, so send us the crate dimensions early. Anything with a stand date attached should go express, because a booth that opens without its backdrop is not a delay you can explain away.

Campus parcels to the north-side institutes

The cluster of national institutes on this side of the city — the IIT at Palaj, the forensic sciences university, DAIICT, PDEU and the design school's Gandhinagar campus — pulls students from every state, Karnataka included. Bedding and a quilt before winter, textbooks, a laptop, formals ahead of placements, a bicycle's worth of spares. Hostel deliveries need the hall, the room number and the student's own mobile.

Family parcels into the sectors

The residential sectors hold a lot of retired government households, and their children frequently work in Bengaluru. What travels is the ordinary stuff of that relationship: prescription medicines with a copy of the prescription, spectacles, festival gifts, a replacement appliance, printed photographs. Surface handles all of it. Write the sector and plot number exactly as the recipient gives it to you — see the addressing note below.

IT assets moving between offices

Laptops, docks and desktop hardware transferring from a Bengaluru office to a Gandhinagar one, or going back after a project closes. What matters here is the paperwork rather than the packing: an asset register entry, the serial number written on the delivery challan, and the declared value stated at booking so cover can be arranged before pickup rather than argued about afterwards. Tell us there is a battery-powered machine in the box so we route it correctly.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first card is what the network refuses everywhere, on every lane. The second is what people genuinely try to book on this lane — and the first line of it is one that carries consequences beyond a refused parcel:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of any description — oils, gels, sanitiser, perfume
  • Aerosols, pressurised cans and compressed-gas cylinders
  • Cosmetics, nail polish and fragrance samples
  • Matches, lighters and flammable solids
  • Currency notes, bullion and precious metal
  • Perishables, fresh produce and live plants

Where Bengaluru → Gandhinagar bookings go wrong

  • Alcohol, in any quantity or packaging. Every courier network refuses it, and Gujarat is separately a prohibition state, so a gift bottle tucked into a carton is not a grey area — it creates a legal problem for the person receiving it as well as a refused consignment for you. There is no version of this that works, including sealed retail packaging with a bill.
  • Gold and silver bullion, coins and bars. The international bullion exchange operates out of GIFT City and we field this question more often on this lane than anywhere else in Gujarat. Precious metal in any form is excluded from the courier network, no declared-value cover applies to it, and no amount of packaging changes that.
  • Cash for a deposit or a fee — currency notes never travel by courier. Send the money through a banking channel and courier the receipt.
  • Sealed lead-acid and UPS batteries for a new office — the inverter or UPS chassis can ship; the battery inside it cannot, sealed or otherwise. Buy the battery locally and have it fitted at the site.
  • Compressed-air dusters and small fire extinguishers — standard server-room and fit-out kit, and both are pressurised cylinders. Refused on surface as well as on air, so they cannot be routed around.
  • Loose laptop batteries and power banks riding along with the hardware — a machine with its cell installed is accepted; the box of spares packed beside it is not, and it will hold up the entire consignment at the security screen rather than just itself.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

You get the AWB on WhatsApp the moment the parcel is booked into DTDC and can look it up yourself at dtdc.in at any hour; the POD image follows within an hour of delivery. Gandhinagar rewards precise addressing more than almost any city we serve, because the grid gives a rider nothing to guess from. Write it in the order the city uses — sector number first, then the block or plot, then the road, then a landmark if you have one — and put a working mobile on the docket. For a Secretariat address, name the department and the block; those buildings screen visitors at the entrance, so the parcel goes to the block's receiving counter rather than to a desk upstairs, and you should expect the POD to carry a counter stamp rather than the officer's own signature. For a GIFT City address, give the tower, the floor and the company name, and warn the recipient that the rider will call from the lobby, because nobody walks past that access control unannounced.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Gandhinagar.

How should a Gandhinagar address be written so the parcel finds it first time?

Follow the grid rather than fighting it. A planned city with numbered sectors and lettered roads has almost no informal landmarks, so an address that reads well in Bengaluru — a house name, a shop opposite, a temple two lanes down — is close to useless here. Give us, in this order: the sector number, the block or plot number, the road, the recipient's name, and a mobile that will be answered. If the address is inside a campus, an institute or an office complex, add the building and the floor, since the internal geography is what the rider actually navigates once past the gate. Residential sector addresses are otherwise the easy part of this lane; the ones that need care are the institutional blocks, and those are covered in the next two answers.

Do you deliver into the GIFT City towers, and what does the recipient need to do?

Yes, regularly, and it works cleanly as long as the recipient is expecting it. Give us the tower name, the floor, the company or IFSC unit name and a direct mobile. The towers run controlled access at the lobby, so the rider does not go up — he calls from the reception desk and somebody comes down or authorises the handover. If the parcel is going to a unit that is still being fitted out and has no permanent staff yet, name the person who is actually on site that week rather than the entity on the invoice, because a reception desk cannot release a parcel to a company that has nobody there. Consignments for a specific meeting or a regulator submission should go express, and we will send you the AWB in writing the same evening you book.

Will a parcel to a government office in Gandhinagar be delivered on a Saturday?

Plan on no. Government blocks in the capital keep a weekday working pattern and their receiving counters follow it, so a consignment that reaches the hub on a Friday evening is realistically a Monday delivery, and a public holiday extends that further. Gujarat also keeps state holidays the rest of the country does not — most notably Uttarayan in mid-January, when the city effectively stops for two days. All of which matters because government deliveries are usually the ones with a deadline attached. The practical advice: for anything date-bound, book express and aim to land two clear working days before the closing date, tell us the department and the officer's name so it goes to the right receiving counter, and keep the AWB message we send you, because it is dated proof of when the consignment left your hands.
