Send a parcel from Bangalore to Cuttack. We pick up free.
About 1,370 kilometres to Odisha's old capital on the Mahanadi — up NH44 to the delta, then the coastal highway through Visakhapatnam and Brahmapur, past Khordha and across the river. 3–4 working days on DTDC surface and 2–3 by air express. Free pickup anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above; on this lane it runs heaviest through the old northeast of the city — Frazer Town, Cooke Town, Kammanahalli and Hennur.
Pickup in Bengaluru, coastal line-haul, delivery across the 753xxx old city.
Pickup, Bengaluru.
Sixty to ninety minutes across the northeast belt — Frazer Town, Cooke Town, Kammanahalli and Hennur are all inside a comfortable single run, and traders sourcing from the Chickpet and Avenue Road wholesale lanes usually have us collect at the shop rather than at home. For trade consignments we weigh, measure and strap on the spot and hand you the docket before we leave.
Bengaluru sortation.
Into the DTDC Bengaluru facility the same evening so the consignment rides that night's eastbound trunk. Cuttack sits one beat beyond the Odisha hub, which means a missed evening cut-off in Bengaluru does not cost you an hour at this end — it costs you a delivery day at the other.
Coastal line-haul east.
NH44 north to the Krishna delta, then the coastal corridor through Visakhapatnam and Brahmapur into Odisha. Surface covers the whole run in 3–4 working days; the air leg out of Kempegowda brings it to 2–3. Between October and December this is the stretch where a Bay of Bengal system can hold movement, and no service level changes that.
Cuttack delivery.
Cuttack is thirty kilometres from Bhubaneswar and is nonetheless a separate city for delivery: its own 753xxx pin series, its own beat, its own quotation. The riverine old city — Choudhury Bazaar, Balu Bazaar, Buxi Bazaar, Malgodown and the lanes around Barabati — is dense and narrow, while Bidanasi, CDA and the newer sectors are straightforward. Give us the full pin, not the district name.

Starting rates, Bangalore → Cuttack.
Billed on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge current on your booking date. GST extra.
- Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 3–4 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
- Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
- Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.
Anything 5 kg and above gets free pickup across Bengaluru. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000, and it decides the bill on most of what moves here, because trade consignments to Cuttack are overwhelmingly fabric, packaging and light finished goods. A bale of garment stock properly compressed and strapped can cost a third less than the same goods loose in an oversized carton. Two dates to plan around: the Bali Jatra fortnight on the Mahanadi bank around Kartik Purnima, and Durga Puja, when the old city's lanes close to vehicles and last-mile delivery runs in narrow windows however fast the line-haul was.
Workshop supplies, trade stock, and parcels into the old city's markets.
Workshop supplies for the filigree trade
Cuttack's tarakasi — the silver filigree work the city is known for — is a workshop craft concentrated around Choudhury Bazaar and the lanes near it, and the workshops buy a great deal that is not silver: draw plates and drawing benches, jeweller's saw blades and files, tweezers and forming tools, loupes and bench lamps, presentation boxes, velvet trays, display stands and packaging. All of that ships freely from Bengaluru's tool and packaging trade. The silver itself is a different matter entirely and is dealt with in the restricted list and the first FAQ below — read them before you book anything from a jeweller's counter.
Textile and garment lots for the city's market
Cuttack has been a wholesale and distribution town far longer than it has been anything else, and its cloth and readymade trade restocks partly out of Bengaluru — sarees and dress material, readymade lots, hosiery, uniforms, dupattas and blouse pieces. These are weekly or fortnightly repeat movements for most senders, which makes them a poor fit for one-off booking and a good fit for a contract rate sheet. Ask us for one if you are sending more than two or three consignments a month; the difference is real.
Stall goods and packaging for Bali Jatra
The fair on the Mahanadi bank at Kartik Purnima is the city's commercial high point, and the run-up to it pulls in stock and stall material from outside the state — display fittings, banners and printed signage, carry bags and packaging, fashion jewellery and accessories, toys and novelty lots. Book this in the fortnight before rather than the week before: the goods themselves move in 3–4 days, but the last mile into the fair-side areas is under pressure exactly when everybody wants it, and a trader with no stock on opening day has no recovery.
Legal and academic documents
The Orissa High Court sits at Cuttack, and Ravenshaw University is here too, so this lane carries a steady load of paper — pleadings and annexure sets moving between Bengaluru counsel and Cuttack advocates, certified copies, company records, transcripts, verification files and thesis submissions. These go express in a sealed waterproof pouch. Address them to the advocate's clerk or the department by name with a working mobile; a chamber block or a university department is not an address a rider can walk into unannounced.
Medicines and reports for patients under treatment
SCB Medical College draws referrals from across Odisha, and families working in Bengaluru ship into it constantly — medicines in original manufacturer's packaging with the prescription attached, printed reports and imaging, mobility aids, and things a relative sitting with a patient simply ran out of. Mark these clearly at booking and we will route them express and flag them at the delivery end; the difference between three days and four is not academic when someone is on a ward.
Puja-season clothes and gifts
Cuttack keeps its Durga Puja on a scale that surprises outsiders, and the families whose working generation is in Bengaluru send home ahead of it — new clothes for parents and children, gift sets, sweets that are dry and sealed, things bought here and promised months earlier. The practical advice is unglamorous: book at least a clear fortnight ahead. Once the city's puja week starts, the lanes around the medha close to vehicles and a parcel that is technically in Cuttack may still be sitting at the hub.
The list that matters on this lane.
Refused by DTDC and across the network. The second card is written for a lane that ends in a jewellers' and traders' town, because that is where the real confusion is:
Banned outright
- Currency, bullion and precious metal in any form
- Loose and set gemstones, and high-value jewellery
- Liquids of every kind, including sealed bottles
- Aerosols, gas cartridges and pressurised cans
- Acids, pickling solutions and corrosive chemicals
- Explosives, fireworks and pyrotechnics
Common Bengaluru → Cuttack misjudgements
- Silver and finished tarakasi work — the question we are asked most on this lane, so here is the straight answer. Silver in any form — wire, sheet, granules, or finished filigree jewellery — is a precious metal, and precious metals are excluded from ordinary courier carriage. Declared-value cover does not extend to them either, so even where a parcel physically travels, there is no meaningful protection behind it. Do not describe silver as "handicraft" on the docket to get it moving: a misdeclared consignment is refused if it is caught, and uninsurable if it is not. For genuine silver, use an insured valuables service or carry it.
- Non-precious decorative metalwork is a different case — and a real one. Brass, german silver, white metal and silver-plated decorative pieces, filigree-style ornamental work in base metal, and craft items sold as decor are all shippable on this lane. What they need is an invoice that describes them honestly, with material and value stated. Send us a photo and the invoice on WhatsApp and we will confirm before pickup rather than at sortation.
- Jeweller's torch fuel and gas cartridges — butane refills, small LPG canisters and the cartridges for bench torches. Every one of them is a pressurised flammable container and none of them can travel on our network. The torch body itself, emptied and declared, is fine.
- Pickling and polishing chemicals — nitric and sulphuric pickle, plating solutions, chemical dips and polishing compounds in liquid form. These are corrosives and are refused on both surface and air. Dry rouge and polishing bars are acceptable; anything in a bottle is not.
- Gas burners and fuel cans for fair stalls — traders setting up for Bali Jatra try to ship the whole stall, cooking equipment included. The burner, the frame and the utensils travel fine once they are clean and dry. The gas cartridge, the kerosene can and the spirit bottle do not, in any quantity.
AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.
Your AWB comes through on WhatsApp the moment the consignment is booked into DTDC, tracks live at dtdc.in, and the proof of delivery follows within an hour of handover. The thing to get right for Cuttack is the address itself. Much of the old city between Buxi Bazaar, Balu Bazaar and Malgodown is built on narrow lanes where a delivery vehicle cannot go the last stretch and the rider works on foot from wherever he can stop, so a house number, the lane name, the nearest recognised bazaar and a working mobile are all doing real work — an address that is only a landmark will cost a day. Shop deliveries have their own rhythm: the old market lanes shut in the afternoon and reopen in the evening, and a rider who arrives at a shuttered shutter has to come back the next working day. Tell us the shop's hours at booking and we will time the beat to them. Bidanasi, CDA and the newer sectors have none of these problems and deliver like any planned town.
Specific to Bangalore → Cuttack.
Can I courier silver filigree work between Bangalore and Cuttack?
Not if it is actually silver. Precious metals — silver and gold in every form, from wire and sheet stock going to a workshop to a finished tarakasi piece coming back from one — are excluded from ordinary courier carriage, and no declared-value cover applies to them. That is not a DTDC quirk; it is standard across networks, and it is the reason we would rather say no at booking than take a parcel that has no protection behind it. What we can carry, and do carry regularly on this lane, is non-precious decorative metalwork: brass, german silver, white metal, silver-plated pieces and base-metal filigree-style craft, all with an invoice that states the material and the value honestly. The one thing you must not do is describe silver as handicraft to get it accepted — it is refused if it is spotted and completely uninsured if it is not. For real silver going for repair or remaking, use an insured valuables service or carry it yourself.
My Cuttack address is just a lane and a bazaar name. Will it deliver?
Usually yes, but it is the single most common reason a parcel on this lane takes an extra day, and it is entirely fixable before pickup. Large parts of the old city are addressed by lane and locality rather than by numbered street, the lanes are too narrow for the delivery vehicle to enter, and the rider covers the last stretch on foot. What actually gets a parcel handed over is: the house or shop number if one exists, the lane name, the nearest bazaar or landmark the neighbourhood itself uses, the 753xxx pin, and a mobile number that will be answered. With those five things a rider phones from the mouth of the lane and completes the delivery in minutes. Without the phone number he can circle for twenty and then mark it undelivered. If the address is a shop, add the trading hours — the market lanes close for a stretch in the afternoon.
When should I book trade stock so it lands before Bali Jatra or Puja?
Give yourself a clear fortnight, and treat the line-haul and the last mile as two different problems. The run from Bengaluru is 3–4 working days on surface and 2–3 by air, and that part holds up well in normal conditions. What does not hold up is delivery inside Cuttack in the days immediately around a major event: the lanes near the river and around the puja medha close to vehicles, the market areas are packed, and a consignment that has physically reached the city can still sit at the hub waiting for a beat that can get through. So book surface at least two weeks before the fair or the puja opens, or express if you are inside a week. If you are inside three days, be honest with yourself about whether the stock is still worth the freight — arriving on the last day of a fair is the same as not arriving. And in the October–December window, add a day for the possibility of a coastal weather hold before you promise anyone a date.
Send the weight and the carton size. We'll price it now.
A rider at your Bengaluru shop or door, usually within the hour.
WhatsApp the pickup address and a rough weight, or call and tell us what is going and where. The Bengaluru desk is open 24×7, so a trader's late-evening dispatch after the shop shuts is a normal booking here rather than a favour.
