Domestic route · Bangalore → Coimbatore

Send a parcel from Bangalore to Coimbatore. We pick up free.

About 365 kilometres south down NH44 to Salem and west into the Kongu belt — 1–2 working days on DTDC surface, and the same 1–2 by express. It is an industrial lane before it is a family lane, and it moves a lot of machinery. Pickup anywhere in Bengaluru is free at 5 kg and above, most of it from Electronic City and the Hosur Road corridor, Whitefield, Rajajinagar and the Peenya-side workshops.

02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across Bengaluru, a flat run through Salem, delivery across the Kongu industrial belt.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Within 60–90 minutes of your call in the core city. On this lane a large share of collections are from workshops, trading offices and machine shops rather than homes — Rajajinagar, the Peenya side, Electronic City and the Hosur Road industrial stretch — and those we schedule against your dispatch time rather than ours. Whitefield and Malleshwaram bookings need a two-hour window. We bring tape, bubble wrap, a scale and, if you tell us it is a machine part, enough carton to double-wall it.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Same-evening handover into DTDC’s Bengaluru facility and onto the southbound trunk. Anything handed to us before the evening cut-off is on the road that night, which is what makes a next-working-day delivery realistic for a part that is holding up a production line.

STEP

NH44 to Salem, then west.

South through Hosur, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri to Salem, then west into Coimbatore. It is fast, flat, four-lane highway the whole way with no ghat section and no forest-belt night restriction to plan around — which is exactly why an industrial lane of this length runs as reliably as it does.

STEP

Coimbatore delivery.

Last-mile off the Coimbatore hub across the 641xxx pin series — RS Puram, Gandhipuram, Peelamedu, Saravanampatti, Singanallur and the SIDCO and Kurichi industrial estates. Industrial addresses have goods-inward hours and a stores gate that closes well before the office does; give us a contact name at stores, not just the company name. Tiruppur, Mettupalayam and Pollachi are separate delivery towns — see the FAQ.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

Once delivered we forward the proof of delivery — signature image or stamped gate slip — on WhatsApp within the hour. For factory deliveries the stamped inward slip is usually what your accounts team actually wants, so we send that where the consignee provides it.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Coimbatore.

Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 1–2 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 1–2 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free across Bengaluru on this lane for parcels 5 kg and above. Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. This is the lane where that formula matters most, because it carries two opposite kinds of freight: a boxed wet grinder or a crated pump housing is heavy and bulky, so both numbers are high and you should expect to be quoted on dimensions; a carton of knitwear samples for a Tiruppur buyer weighs almost nothing and still bills at its volume. Send us length, width and height on WhatsApp before you commit to a rate.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Coimbatore

Pump and machine spares, grinders, textile samples and student parcels.

Pump, motor and textile-machinery spares

Coimbatore is the country’s pump and motor town and it buys, sells and repairs components constantly. What comes out of Bengaluru is the small, urgent end of that trade — bearings, seals, impellers, VFD cards, sensors, control panels, tooling and imported spares that landed at Kempegowda and need to be on a shop floor in Singanallur tomorrow. Under 10 kg, high value, and almost always time-critical. Book express, tell us it is a machine part, and read the drained-oil rule below.

Wet grinders and mixies

The wet grinder is Coimbatore’s own product and it travels this lane in both directions — bought in Bengaluru for a household in Saibaba Colony, or sent back to the maker for a drum or motor replacement. It is the heaviest thing most people ever hand a courier, the stone drum is the part that cracks, and the original manufacturer’s carton with its moulded inserts is worth keeping for exactly this reason. If you no longer have it, tell us and we will crate it properly rather than tape a box around it.

Knitwear and fabric samples for Tiruppur

Buying offices in Bengaluru send swatch cards, lab dips, sample garments, trims, labels and buttons down to the Tiruppur knitwear cluster and to Coimbatore’s spinning and processing units, usually against a buyer deadline. Light, bulky, and worth nothing to anyone but the recipient — which makes them the classic volumetric consignment. A polymailer inside a rigid carton is the right packing; a loose bag arrives creased and useless.

Engineering-college student parcels

The Coimbatore campuses — PSG, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Kumaraguru, Amrita and the cluster around them — pull students from across the south, and their supply line runs through relatives in Bengaluru. Laptops, project hardware, drawing boards, lab manuals, a printer, sports gear, and at the end of every semester the reverse flow of everything going home. Hostel offices need the student’s own mobile on the AWB before they will sign.

IT hardware for Coimbatore’s tech offices

The city’s software sector has grown enough that Bengaluru head offices routinely ship it equipment — laptops for new joiners, monitors, switches, access points, UPS units, and the whole kit for a new floor. Batteries fitted inside machines are fine on surface routing; spares are not. Office deliveries also have reception hours, so send us the working-hours window with the address rather than after the first attempt fails.

Kongu family parcels and festival sends

A great many Coimbatore, Erode and Tiruppur families have children working in Bengaluru, and the parcels flowing back are the ordinary ones — medicines with the prescription, a phone, festival clothes before Pongal, dry snacks and sweets, and documents that need a physical signature. This is a weekly-habit lane for a lot of people, and regular senders should ask us about a standing pickup slot rather than calling every time.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

These are prohibited across DTDC and every air-linked courier network. The second list is what actually gets refused on a Bengaluru → Coimbatore booking, which on an industrial lane is a very different set from a family lane:

Banned outright

  • Liquids of any kind — oils, coolants, adhesives, solvents
  • Aerosols and pressurised cans
  • Compressed gas cylinders, including small welding and refrigerant cans
  • Flammable liquids, thinners, paints and epoxy hardeners
  • Currency notes, gold and silver bullion
  • Corrosive chemicals, acids and battery electrolyte

Common Bengaluru → Coimbatore misjudgements

  • Machine parts that still have oil in them — the single most frequent refusal on this lane. A returned gearbox, pump head, hydraulic block or compressor that has residual oil or coolant sitting inside it is a leaking liquid consignment no matter how it is wrapped. Drain it, degrease it, wipe the ports, seal the openings and then hand it over. Done properly it ships without argument.
  • Aerosol rust remover, contact cleaner and spray lubricant — these travel in the same box as the spare, because whoever packed it was thinking about the repair rather than the courier. Every one of them is a pressurised flammable aerosol and every one is refused. Send the part; buy the can there.
  • Power-tool battery packs and loose lithium cells — a battery fitted inside the tool or the laptop is accepted on surface routing. A spare 18V pack rattling loose in the carton, or any cell above 100 Wh on the air leg, is not. Tell us at booking if a battery is travelling and we route it correctly.
  • Coconut and gingelly oil in the food parcel — the Kongu kitchen runs on both and they get tucked in beside the dry snacks going to a family in Ganapathy. Sealed tin, glass bottle or pouch, it is a prohibited liquid. Dry murukku, sealed sweets, spice powders and roasted snacks all travel fine.
  • Uncrated castings and sharp-edged metal — not a ban, a packing standard. A bare casting or a bundle of cut sections will tear through carton in transit and damage what it sits against. Anything with edges needs a wooden crate or heavy double-wall with corner protection, and we would rather build that at pickup than have it turned away at the counter.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC we send the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When it is delivered we forward the POD — signed slip, photo or stamped gate inward slip — within the hour. The Coimbatore-specific thing to get right is the consignee detail on industrial addresses. Deliveries into SIDCO, Kurichi, Singanallur and the estates around them go to a stores gate with its own inward hours, a security register and often a different phone number from the one on your purchase order. Put the stores contact’s mobile on the AWB, add the works name as well as the company name, and mention the goods-inward window when you book. Do that and it lands first attempt; skip it and it comes back to the hub for a second run tomorrow.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Coimbatore.

Does a Coimbatore booking cover Tiruppur, Mettupalayam and Pollachi?

Not automatically, and Tiruppur catches people out for a very specific reason: it shares the 641 pin prefix with Coimbatore, so a booking form accepts it happily and the sender assumes it is the same delivery run. It is not — Tiruppur is a separate town about 50 km away, worked on its own branch schedule, and it typically adds a working day. Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Udumalpet and Valparai sit outside the 641 series and are separate branch points again, with Valparai on a hill road that runs less frequently. Give us the exact six-digit pin at booking and we will quote the real date rather than the Coimbatore one.

Can I courier a wet grinder from Bangalore to Coimbatore, and how is it charged?

Yes, we move them regularly, and there are two things to settle before you book. First, packing: the stone drum is the part that cracks and a tilting grinder has a motor that must not take a direct impact, so it needs either the original moulded carton or a proper crate — we build one at pickup if you no longer have the box. Second, price: a grinder is heavy and bulky at the same time, so both actual and volumetric weight are high, and you will be billed on whichever is greater using (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. Measure the packed box, not the machine, send us the three numbers on WhatsApp, and we will give you the real figure before the rider leaves rather than a surprise at the counter.

Can I send pump spares and machine parts, and what gets refused?

Machine parts are the everyday cargo on this route and almost all of them go without any trouble. The refusals are narrow and predictable. Anything holding residual oil, coolant or hydraulic fluid has to be drained, degreased and its ports sealed first, because otherwise it is a liquid consignment. Aerosol cleaners, spray lubricants, thinners, paints and epoxy hardeners cannot travel at all, even in the same carton as the part. Loose power-tool battery packs are out, though a battery fitted inside a tool is fine on surface. And bare castings or cut sections need crating rather than carton. Tell us what the item is when you call and we will tell you in one sentence whether it flies, ships by surface, or needs prepping first.
