02 — How this lane runs

Pickup across north-west Bengaluru, NH44 to Nagpur, then west into Bhopal's 462xxx belt.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

Ninety minutes is the honest window for the north-west quadrant — Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli, Peenya and Sanjaynagar — which is where the bulk of this lane's senders live and work. If the pickup is from one of the Peenya sheds, give us the stage and the unit number rather than only the road name; that estate is large enough that a rider without a unit number loses half an hour to the wrong block. Tape, bubble wrap and a luggage scale come with the rider, and the carton is weighed and sealed in front of you.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

The parcel goes into DTDC's Bengaluru facility the same evening it is collected. Anything handed over before early evening joins that night's northbound departure; anything later waits for the following one, and on a four-day lane that is a whole working day you never get back.

STEP

NH44, then the turn west.

The line-haul runs the NH44 spine through Hyderabad and up to Nagpur, and this is where the Bhopal lane parts company with the Jabalpur one — Bhopal is reached by turning west across Betul and Itarsi rather than continuing north-east. Surface covers the whole run in 4–5 working days; the air leg out of Kempegowda brings it down to 2–3.

STEP

Bhopal delivery.

Last-mile off the Bhopal hub across the 462xxx pins. The newer south and east city — Arera Colony, Shahpura, MP Nagar, Kolar Road and the Hoshangabad Road stretch — is straightforward and usually next-day off the hub. The old city around the Chowk, the BHEL township at Piplani and Govindpura, and industrial Mandideep each have their own quirks, all covered below.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

The signed proof of delivery reaches you on WhatsApp within an hour of the parcel being handed over, which matters most when what you sent was a document with a date attached to it.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Bhopal.

You are billed on actual or volumetric weight, whichever comes out higher, plus the fuel surcharge in force on the day you book. GST is extra.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 4–5 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free at any Bengaluru address on this lane once the shipment reaches 5 kg. Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000. Two Bhopal-specific timing notes. Government offices in the Vallabh Bhavan and Satpura Bhawan complex do not accept deliveries on state holidays that the rest of the country works through, so check the MP calendar before you promise somebody a Monday. And through the peak of the monsoon the Betul–Itarsi stretch is the slowest part of this run, which is when the two-day express saving is worth paying for.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Bhopal

State-government paperwork, hospital files, Mandideep vendor consignments and families sending home.

Tenders and state-government submissions

Bhopal is the seat of the Madhya Pradesh government, and a great deal of what leaves Bengaluru for it is paper with a deadline: tender bids and EMD documents, empanelment files, GST and departmental correspondence, board and university submissions. These go express without discussion, with the recipient's mobile and the department and room number written on the docket. Tell us the closing date at booking and we will work the pickup time backwards from it.

Medical records and post-treatment supplies

A steady share of this lane is medical. Patients from Madhya Pradesh come to Bengaluru's hospitals for a procedure and go home to Bhopal, and what follows them is the paperwork — discharge summaries, imaging on disc, biopsy reports, follow-up prescriptions — along with tablets, dressings and consumables in strip or blister form. Liquids, injectables and anything needing refrigeration are a separate question and are covered in the list below.

Instrument spares and drawings for Mandideep

Mandideep's manufacturing estate sits south-east of the city and buys small components, test instruments, calibration jigs and controller boards from Bengaluru's electronics trade. We collect from Peenya and the Jalahalli side, invoice the consignment with GST, and put an e-way bill in the file where the value calls for one. Machinery of any real size is freight, not courier, and we will tell you so instead of quoting you.

Engineering documents to the BHEL township

The BHEL colony at Piplani and Govindpura is effectively a town of its own, and the paperwork moving into it from Bengaluru's engineering firms is constant — drawing sets, inspection reports, qualification documents, contract copies. Township addresses run on sector and quarter numbers rather than street names, so give us the quarter number exactly as it appears on the letterbox.

Home-office kit for people who moved back

Plenty of Bhopal-origin professionals now work a Bengaluru job from a family house near the lakes. Laptops, docking stations, second monitors, headsets, chairs in a flat box, sometimes a whole desk setup going up in two consignments. Say it is a laptop when you call — the battery rules decide whether it rides surface or air, and we would rather set that correctly at booking than argue about it at the security screen.

Dry provisions and sealed festival sweets

Sambar and rasam podi, filter coffee powder, dry banana chips, sealed murukku and mixture, packaged Mysore pak with a date on the wrapper. This is the ordinary freight of a family lane and none of it causes any trouble as long as it stays dry and factory-sealed. Loose sweets scooped into a box at a counter are a different matter — four days on the road is too long for them.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

The first card is the network prohibition list, which no courier in India works around. The second is the set of things Bengaluru senders genuinely try to put on the Bhopal lane, usually because a hospital or a factory told them to send something and nobody mentioned that a courier cannot carry it:

Banned outright

  • Liquids in any form — bottles, sachets, sealed retail packs included
  • Aerosols, pressurised cans and gas cartridges
  • Alcohol, and anything alcohol-based including perfume
  • Matches, lighters and flammable solids
  • Cash, bullion and precious stones
  • Fresh produce, plants and anything perishable

Where Bengaluru → Bhopal bookings get stopped

  • Diagnostic and pathology samples — blood tubes, swabs, tissue in fixative and biopsy blocks. Referral patients are asked to send these to a Bengaluru lab and back, and a courier docket is not the right vehicle: they are regulated biological material and need a licensed specimen service with proper packaging. We will say no, and we will say it before you have driven to us.
  • Medicines in liquid or cold-chain form — syrups, eye drops, insulin, vaccine vials, injectables. Tablets, capsules and blister strips travel fine with a prescription copy in the carton; anything pourable or anything that has to stay cold does not, and no amount of ice packs changes that over four days.
  • Spray lubricants and rust preventives — the small aerosol cans that get tucked in with a shipment of spares for Mandideep. They are pressurised and flammable, they are excluded on surface as well as air, and one can will hold up the entire consignment at the sort.
  • Loose lithium cells and instrument batteries — a battery sealed inside the laptop, meter or controller you are sending is accepted on surface routing. A spare pack, a bare power bank or a set of loose 18650 cells riding along in the same carton is not.
  • Loose ghee sweets and oily savouries — bought at a Bengaluru counter and boxed for family in Bhopal. Oil bleeds through the carton over four days on the road and the consignment is refused at the sort. Sealed, dated, factory-packed tins are a different case and go without a query.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

You get the AWB number on WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked into DTDC, and you can check it yourself at dtdc.in at any hour; the POD image follows within an hour of delivery. Bhopal rewards a little extra address detail. For the state secretariat blocks, put the department and the room or section number on the docket along with a mobile — entry is controlled and a rider cannot wander a ministry looking for a name. For the BHEL township, the quarter number is the address; the sector alone will not do it. For Mandideep, ask the recipient for the plant's inward-gate timing before you book, because material offered after the stores window closes is simply refused and comes back the next working day. And in the old city around the Chowk and Ibrahimpura, the lanes are too narrow for a van, so the parcel arrives on two wheels and the rider phones from the nearest recognisable corner.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Bhopal.

My father was treated in Bengaluru and is back in Bhopal. Can I courier his medicines and reports?

The reports and the medicines mostly, yes; the samples, no. Discharge summaries, imaging discs, prescriptions and hospital files travel fine — send them express with the recipient's mobile on the docket and keep a photo of every page before you seal the envelope, because a report that goes missing is worth more than the freight. Tablets, capsules and blister strips are accepted with a copy of the prescription inside the carton and the contents written plainly on the AWB. What we cannot carry is anything liquid or cold-chain — syrups, eye drops, insulin, injectables — or any pathology sample the hospital wants sent back to a Bengaluru lab. Those need a licensed specimen or cold-chain service and we will point you at one rather than book something that gets destroyed in transit. If the follow-up appointment at Bhopal is on a fixed date, tell us and we will book air so the file lands ahead of the patient's visit rather than after it.

Do you deliver to Mandideep and the BHEL township, or only to Bhopal city?

Both are served, and both need a detail that a city address does not. Mandideep is an industrial estate outside the Bhopal municipal limits on the south-eastern side, so it is an outstation beat off the Bhopal hub — quote the exact pin code the plant uses on its purchase order, not the city name, and find out the stores inward timing. Material offered after the gate window shuts is not held, it is turned away, and you lose a working day. The BHEL township at Piplani and Govindpura is a residential colony laid out in sectors with numbered quarters, and the quarter number is what makes the address deliverable; a sector plus a surname is not enough for the rider to find anyone. Give us the pin, the gate or quarter number, and a mobile that will be answered during working hours and neither address gives any trouble.

I'm moving back to Bhopal from Bengaluru. What does 20 kg of household things cost?

On surface at ₹120/kg a 20 kg consignment starts at about ₹2,400 before the fuel surcharge and 18% GST, arriving in 4–5 working days — and for books, bedding, kitchen items and clothes that is the right service. Express at ₹180/kg would be roughly ₹3,600 for the same weight in 2–3 days, which is money spent for no benefit unless something in the box is needed on a date. The number worth checking before anything else is volumetric: (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 5000. Moving cartons are almost always bulky and light, so a box that reads 12 kg on a bathroom scale can bill at 18. If you are shifting more than 35 kg in total, ask us for the bulk line instead of booking three separate parcels — it starts at the same ₹120/kg but is handled as one consignment with one AWB, which is far easier to chase. Send the outside dimensions of each carton on WhatsApp and we will give you the billed weight before you tape anything shut.

The carton gets sealed at your Bengaluru door, not at a counter.
