02 — How this lane runs

Collected across north-east Bengaluru, hauled east, then west off the Kolkata hub into the 713xxx belt.

STEP

Pickup, Bengaluru.

60–90 minutes across the central and north-east city. Kammanahalli, Hennur, Banaswadi, Frazer Town and Cooke Town are dense, older neighbourhoods with narrow approach roads and very little parking, so give the rider a landmark and a floor rather than only a house number and he will be up and back quickly. Packing material comes with him and the parcel is sealed and weighed at your door.

STEP

Bengaluru sortation.

Into the DTDC Bengaluru facility the same evening. Asansol is served through the eastern network rather than as a direct point, so making tonight's departure is what actually protects your transit — a booking that slips past the cut-off does not lose an evening, it loses a full working day at the far end of a 1,700-kilometre run.

STEP

Line-haul east.

Up the eastern corridor to the Bengal hub, then west along the Grand Trunk Road axis that the whole Asansol–Durgapur industrial belt is strung along. Surface holds 4–5 working days. Express flies out of Kempegowda into the Kolkata air hub and completes the last stretch by road in 2–3, which is the routing we recommend for anything with a plant shutdown or a tender date attached to it.

STEP

Asansol delivery.

Off the local beats across the 713xxx series. Asansol town, Hirapur, Ushagram, Burnpur and the Kulti and Neamatpur stretch toward the Jharkhand border are worked daily. Colliery townships, the Chittaranjan railway estate and the Jamuria and Raniganj side sit on their own beats with their own entry rules — see below, because that is where a day gets lost on this lane, not on the highway.

STEP

POD on WhatsApp.

The signed proof of delivery comes back to you on WhatsApp within the hour of handover. If the consignee is a company or a colliery office, we forward the receiving stamp image too, which is usually what a purchase department wants against the invoice.

03 — Rate band on this lane

Starting rates, Bangalore → Asansol.

Charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, plus the fuel surcharge current on the booking date. GST is added on top.

  • Standard parcel (surface) from ₹120 / kg 4–5 working days. Min billable 5 kg.
  • Express parcel (air) from ₹180 / kg 2–3 working days. Door delivery.
  • Bulk consignment (35 kg+) from ₹120 / kg Min 35 kg. Surface routing.

Pickup is free anywhere in Bengaluru at 5 kg and above, unit dispatches included. Volumetric weight is (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000 and it is what decides the bill on clothing and gift cartons; industrial spares almost always bill on actual weight instead. Where a consignment moves on a GST invoice above ₹50,000 an e-way bill has to travel with it — worth arranging before pickup rather than after, because the vendor supply parcels on this lane cross a state boundary.

04 — What goes Bangalore → Asansol

Plant and colliery supplies, vendor paperwork, and parcels home from a region that exports its workforce.

Spares and instrumentation for the coal and steel belt

Asansol sits at the centre of India's oldest coal field, with Eastern Coalfields headquartered in the belt and the Burnpur steel works a few kilometres from the town. That concentration of heavy plant creates constant demand for parts that Bengaluru vendors stock — sensors, drives, valve kits, hydraulic seals, weighing and monitoring electronics, safety instrumentation. Small boxes, high value, and the category most likely to be booked express because a stopped conveyor costs more per hour than the airfreight does.

Railway workshop and loco supplies

The Asansol division is a serious railway town — running sheds, workshops and, at Chittaranjan a short way east, the locomotive works. Ancillary suppliers and contractors move gauges, fittings, electrical components, testing equipment and calibration items in from the south on this route. Anything going into a railway estate needs the consignee's department and extension number, not just a name; the estates are gated and the beat is scheduled.

Tender documents and contractor paperwork

Bids, EMD documentation, work orders, bank guarantees, safety certifications and signed agreements for PSU and contractor offices in the belt. This is express cargo by definition — a tender envelope has a closing time, not a closing day. Put the recipient's mobile on the AWB and tell us the deadline when you book, and we will give you the AWB number the same evening so you can send it to the other side.

Parcels home from Bengaluru's Bengali households

The north-east pocket of Bengaluru — Kammanahalli, Banaswadi, Hennur and around — has a settled Bengali and eastern Indian population, and a fair share of it has roots in the coal belt rather than in Kolkata. What goes back is ordinary: clothes for parents, a phone or a tablet bought here, winter wear before December, sweets and dry snacks, documents that need a signature at home. Mostly under 5 kg and mostly surface.

Study material and exam parcels

Asansol is the education centre for a wide catchment that reaches into Jharkhand, and books move on this lane in both directions — competitive-exam sets, university material, printed notes, project reports and bound submissions for the local colleges and Kazi Nazrul University. Books are dense and cheap by weight, so surface at ₹120/kg is almost always the right call unless a submission date is in play.

Small-trade consignments from Chickpet and Avenue Road

Asansol's retail market pulls stock from wholesale sources across the country, and Bengaluru's old trading quarter supplies a slice of it — hardware and fittings, electrical accessories, mobile and computer accessories, small consumer goods. These are the classic volumetric parcels on this lane: light stock in a big carton. Let the rider measure before you seal and you will often drop a slab.

05 — What you cannot send

A short, real list.

Refused by DTDC and by every air-connected network. The second block is what people genuinely attempt on a lane that ends in a mining and heavy-industry district:

Banned outright

  • Explosives, detonators, fuses and blasting accessories
  • Compressed and liquefied gas in any container
  • Flammable liquids, fuels and solvent thinners
  • Corrosive acids, alkalis and electrolyte
  • Currency notes, bullion and jewellery
  • Firearms, ammunition and parts thereof

Common Bengaluru → Asansol misjudgements

  • Anything connected with blasting — detonators, delay elements, shot-firing cable with attached caps. It is a coal belt and the question does come up. Nothing in that family moves on a courier network under any condition, ground or air, and it is not a paperwork problem we can solve for you.
  • Calcium carbide and gas cartridges — carbide reacts with water to release a flammable gas, and cartridge cylinders are pressurised. Both are refused at booking however small the quantity and however well sealed the tin.
  • Cap-lamp and mining battery packs shipped loose — a lamp battery travelling on its own is a loose cell, and loose cells are the hardest refusal to argue with on the air leg. A battery installed inside its equipment is a different case; tell us which one you have before the rider arrives.
  • Coal, coke and ore samples for laboratory testing — sent more often than you would guess, and not a straightforward booking. Loose material in a sack is refused outright. Ask us first: a small, sealed, properly labelled and documented sample can sometimes be accommodated on surface, but never assume it and never hide it inside another parcel.
  • Paint, primer and touch-up thinner packed alongside plant spares — the spare ships, the tin does not. Suppliers tape these to a consignment as a courtesy and it is the reason the whole box gets held at the counter.
06 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

You get the AWB number on WhatsApp the moment the parcel is booked, and it is trackable at dtdc.in from the Bengaluru scan through to delivery. Two things about the Asansol side change how quickly a parcel actually lands. First, addresses: the 713xxx series covers the whole Asansol–Durgapur corridor, so the pin, not the town name, decides the beat — and a great many addresses here are colliery or company quarters described by pit, area and quarter number rather than by a street a map can find. Write it exactly as your family or your consignee writes it, and add a mobile number that will be answered during the day. Second, the Kulti and Barakar stretch runs right up to the Jharkhand boundary, and a pin from the other side of that line is a different lane entirely — send us the six digits and we will price the right one rather than correct it later.

07 — Three questions about this lane

Specific to Bangalore → Asansol.

How do I address a parcel to colliery or company quarters in the Asansol belt?

Write it the way the people living there write it, and then add what a delivery rider needs. Quarters in the coal and steel townships are usually identified by area or project name, then a block or type, then a quarter number — there is often no street name at all, and a map search will not resolve it. So give us the colliery, project or works name, the block and quarter number, the post office, the police station and the six-digit pin. Then add a mobile number that is answered during working hours, and if the person is on shift, give us a second number for someone at home. We put both on the AWB. Deliveries into gated works and railway estates run on a scheduled beat with security entry, so the rider phoning ahead is what turns a single attempt into a delivery rather than an undelivered scan.

Can you deliver to Chittaranjan, Raniganj, Jamuria or Kulti on this booking?

Yes, all of them are served, but they are their own pin codes and their own beats and it is better to book them as what they are than as "Asansol". Asansol town, Hirapur, Ushagram and Burnpur are the daily core and hold the 4–5 working day surface transit. Kulti, Neamatpur and the Barakar stretch toward the state boundary, and Raniganj and Jamuria on the Durgapur side, are worked on their own runs and can sit a day behind. Chittaranjan is a gated railway township and needs the consignee's department and a contact number before the rider can get in at all. Give us the exact pin at booking and we will quote and route against it. If the address turns out to be across the boundary in Jharkhand — which happens on the Barakar side more than people expect — that is a separate lane and we would rather tell you the price up front.

Something has stopped at the plant and I need a part there fast. What is realistic?

Express, booked early in the day, and 2–3 working days is the honest number — there is no same-day or next-day option on a 1,700-kilometre lane and anyone promising one is guessing. What you can control is the margin at both ends. Call us before your vendor closes rather than after; a part collected in Peenya or Rajajinagar this evening rides tonight, while the same part collected tomorrow morning has already lost a day. Mark the AWB with the consignee's mobile and the plant gate's receiving hours, because a delivery that arrives after the gate shuts waits until it reopens. Declare the value and keep the invoice and e-way bill with the consignment. And tell us at booking if there is oil, grease, a battery or an aerosol anywhere in the package — those are the things that stop a critical parcel at the counter, and we can almost always repack around them if we know in advance.
