03 — Rate band, Ajmer → Switzerland

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight (whichever is greater) plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (6–8 days, door)from ₹1,500 / kg
  • Economy (9–13 days, door)from ₹1,100 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from AjmerFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.

Worked example

A 2 kg parcel — say a Mayo-alumni care kit (books, festival clothing, sealed dry sweets) for a Zurich address:

  • Express, 2 kg × ₹1,500≈ ₹3,000
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹750
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹675
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹4,425–4,950

Indicative only. Fuel surcharge and rate cards change. Swiss VAT (7.7%) on goods above CHF 5 and any applicable customs duty is paid by the consignee.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

Switzerland is not in the EU. Swiss Customs / FCA clears separately from EU TARIC, with their own duty thresholds and 7.7% VAT — so paperwork accuracy matters.

KYC of the sender

One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup.

Commercial invoice + recipient ID

Itemised invoice with values in INR or CHF. Recipient’s AHV-Nummer for personal parcels, or UID for B2B.

Prescription (medicines)

Doctor’s prescription with registration number for tablets. Swissmedic is strict — no injectables, no controlled substances, sealed strips only.

05 — Switzerland-specific restrictions

What Switzerland doesn’t let in.

Swiss rules are strict, especially around counterfeits — Switzerland is HQ for Rolex, Patek Philippe, Swatch and many luxury brands. Anti-counterfeit cooperation is aggressive.

Don’t even try

  • Counterfeit goods — anti-counterfeit enforcement among the strictest in Europe; seized and destroyed.
  • Drugs and controlled substances — including unprescribed tablets.
  • Weapons and weapon-replicas — Swiss civilian-import rules are strict despite the militia tradition.
  • Aerosols and pressurised containers — universal courier rule.
  • Lithium batteries above 100 Wh — restricted on air leg.
  • Items misusing Swiss flag or Swiss Cross — Wappenrecht law restricts unauthorised commercial use.
  • CITES-listed items — ivory, certain corals, exotic skins.
  • Alcohol of any kind — courier zero-tolerance.

Allowed with care

  • Textiles and sarees — Rajasthani cotton, lehengas. Declare a fair value.
  • Books and printed material — straightforward.
  • Sealed dry sweets and prasad — declare ingredients and allergens on the invoice.
  • Tablets with prescription — sealed strips, doctor’s slip, no liquids or injectables.
  • Non-precious jewellery — declare make and value clearly to avoid counterfeit-flag confusion.
  • Small electronics — declare model and value.
  • Handicraft — fine; no untreated wood.
06 — What goes Ajmer → Switzerland

Mayo-alumni care, Sufi-devotee gifts, handicraft, baggage.

Mayo-alumni Zurich / Geneva care kits

Mayo College alumni in Zurich and Geneva maintain a tightly-networked diaspora — books, regimental memorabilia, school photographs, festival clothing, sealed dry sweets. We know the lane and the paperwork that clears Swiss FCA cleanly.

Sufi-devotee Switzerland-diaspora gifts

The Swiss Muslim community has Sufi-orders with active Ajmer-devotee links. Devotional items from Ajmer Sharif Dargah — books, prayer caps, sealed dry niyaaz, ziyarat photographs, prayer beads — go to Swiss-Indian and Pakistani-Swiss families across Zurich, Geneva and Basel. No flowers, no rose-water (liquid), no untreated-bamboo agarbatti.

Handicraft

Rajasthani brassware, papier-mâché, lac-ware. Declare make and value. Suitable for Zurich and Geneva design boutiques and personal gifts.

Returning-traveller baggage

Swiss travellers stop at Ajmer Dargah and Pushkar nearby. We pick up from the hotel, pack, ship before they fly out so they don’t pay airline excess.

Wedding outfits & festival sets

Sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, dupattas. Shipped ahead of weddings to Swiss-Indian families — Zurich-banking + Geneva-UN-diplomatic + Basel-pharma diaspora. Recommend express to land 2–3 weeks before.

Diwali / Eid parcels (non-food)

Diyas, decorations, pooja items, Eid greetings. Express to Zurich and Geneva before the festival.

Student care kits

Books, kitchen tools, festival clothing for Indian students at ETH Zurich, EPFL Lausanne, IMD Lausanne. Peak intake: September.

Personal documents

Passports, originals, certified copies. Express tracked international.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC International, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.

08 — Three questions about Switzerland shipments

Asked most often.

I’m a Mayo College alumnus sending a care package to a batch-mate in Zurich — anything special?

Mayo Zurich and Mayo Geneva are quiet but real networks for us. Book on express; the parcel rides the Ajmer-Jaipur-Delhi handoff and lands in Zurich in 6–8 working days. Send books, school regimental memorabilia, photographs, sealed dry sweets, folded festival clothing. Skip loose spices, untreated bamboo agarbatti, anything liquid, and especially anything that could be mistaken for counterfeit-luxury (no fake-brand watches or wallets — even as a joke, Swiss customs takes them very seriously). If your friend’s AHV-Nummer is on the invoice, FCA clears faster.

Switzerland isn’t in the EU — what changes for my parcel?

Switzerland is in EFTA and Schengen but has its own customs union — Swiss Customs / FCA / EZV clears parcels separately from EU TARIC. Thresholds differ: VAT of 7.7% applies on goods worth more than CHF 5 (~₹450), much lower than the EU’s EUR 150 threshold. So the consignee will likely pay some Swiss VAT on most non-trivial parcels. Customs duty depends on the product category. Practically, transit time is similar to EU lanes.

Can I send sealed niyaaz or dry prasad from Ajmer Sharif to a Swiss-Sufi family?

Yes — sealed factory-pack dry sweets, dry-fruit niyaaz, prasad in sealed pouches all clear Swiss customs with the right paperwork: declare ingredients and allergens on the commercial invoice, no liquids, no rose-water, no untreated-bamboo agarbatti. The Swiss Sufi community in Zurich and Geneva is small but active; we’ve been shipping Ajmer Sharif devotional kits to Swiss Sufi-devotee families for years.
