02 — How this lane runs

Five steps from your Ajmer door to a New Zealand address.

STEP

Pickup, Ajmer.

Free at 5 kg+ across Ajmer — Dargah Bazaar, Naya Bazaar, Madar Gate, Vaishali Nagar, Mayo College area. We bring tape, bubble wrap and the international airway bill.

STEP

Pack & document.

Commercial invoice, KYC, content declaration. NZ’s MPI is uncompromising — for Ajmer senders, this lane is essentially textile-only. Item-level descriptions matter; MPI reads them carefully.

STEP

DTDC handover.

Same evening, road-feeder ~140 km north to Jaipur, then onward to Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM); air movement transits Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore or Hong Kong to AKL Auckland or WLG Wellington. Add roughly half a day for the Ajmer-to-Jaipur feeder; direct flights are limited.

STEP

NZ customs (MPI).

Clearance at Auckland gateway. New Zealand’s MPI biosecurity is among the strictest worldwide — even tighter than Australia in some categories. Paperwork-clean, biosecurity-safe parcels still take 48–96 hours to clear on average.

STEP

Doorstep delivery.

Last-mile via NZ Post or the local courier partner. POD on WhatsApp the same day.

03 — Rate band, Ajmer → New Zealand

Starting rates. Real pricing depends on weight.

Final price depends on actual or volumetric weight (whichever is greater) plus the international fuel surcharge in force on your booking date. GST is extra. Rates run higher than Australia because routing is longer.

Starting per-kg rates

  • Express (9–13 days, door)from ₹1,700 / kg
  • Economy (13–19 days, door)from ₹1,300 / kg
  • Min billable weight0.5 kg
  • Pickup from AjmerFree at 5 kg+

Volumetric formula: (L × W × H cm) ÷ 5000.

Worked example

A 2 kg parcel — say a stack of textbooks plus folded cotton clothing, ~30 × 25 × 15 cm:

  • Express, 2 kg × ₹1,700≈ ₹3,400
  • + fuel surcharge (~25%)≈ ₹850
  • + GST 18%≈ ₹765
  • Approx total, express≈ ₹5,650

Indicative only. Fuel surcharge and rate cards change.

04 — Customs & documentation

What you’ll need at pickup.

MPI biosecurity is the strictest customs operation we deal with. For Ajmer’s Dargah-devotee parcels and Mayo-alumni care kits, we’re especially careful about labelling — anything that reads as plant-derived, organic or even decorative-with-petals is at risk.

KYC of the sender

One photo ID for the person whose name is on the AWB — Aadhaar, passport or driving licence. We photograph it at pickup; not stored beyond DTDC’s record.

Commercial invoice

For commercial goods, a printed invoice listing items, quantity and value. For gifts and devotee parcels, a written declaration. Item-level descriptions matter — MPI reads them carefully.

Prescription (medicines)

Pharmac rules — only the quantity prescribed, in the original sealed strip, with a copy of the prescription and doctor’s registration. No controlled substances, no liquids, no injectables.

05 — New Zealand-specific restrictions

What New Zealand doesn’t let in.

MPI (Ministry for Primary Industries) is among the strictest biosecurity regimes worldwide — small island ecosystem, fewer pest defences than continental countries. NZ from Ajmer is essentially a textile-and-paper lane. These are real MPI rules. Items shipped against them are seized, destroyed, and the consignee pays a disposal fee.

Don’t even try

  • All food — even commercially sealed packs. Includes tabarruk-mithai and niyaz-sweets. MPI’s default position is to seize.
  • Wooden items, untreated — picture frames, carved boxes, decor.
  • Bamboo handicrafts — treated as plant material.
  • Leather goods — CITES plus biosecurity rules.
  • Seeds, dried plants, herbs, agarbatti — agarbatti sticks are treated as plant-derived material and routinely seized. (Ajmer Dargah devotee gifts often include agarbatti — leave it out for NZ.)
  • Rose-water, attar, liquid tabarruk — universal liquid block.
  • Dairy and meat products — including dried, sealed, processed.
  • Fresh produce, dried flowers, decorations with botanical content — Diwali decoration sets with petals or pressed flowers are blocked.
  • Beeswax, pollen, honey-related items — protect NZ’s native bee stock.
  • Aerosols, lithium batteries above 100 Wh, all liquids — universal courier rules.

Allowed with care

  • Cloth ziyarat souvenirs — green-cloth chadar fragments, embroidered prayer-mats, sealed printed Khwaja-Garib-Nawaz literature. Declare a fair value. (NO agarbatti, NO rose-water, NO solid tabarruk.)
  • Textiles and cotton clothing — declare fabric type and value. Best parcel content for NZ from Ajmer.
  • Books and printed material — straightforward; declare title and value.
  • Prescription tablets — sealed strip, prescription attached, only the quantity prescribed (Pharmac rules).
  • Non-precious jewellery and small electronics — declare make, model, value.
  • Personal documents — passports, originals, signed papers.
06 — What goes Ajmer → New Zealand

Textile-only — clothing, devotee cloth, documents.

Mayo College alumni care kits

Books, college-tie merchandise, folded cotton clothing, printed materials, sealed-decoration sets without botanical content. Shipped to Auckland, Wellington — Mayo old-boys at University of Auckland, Massey, Otago, Canterbury.

Sufi-Khwaja-Garib-Nawaz devotee gifts (cloth-only)

Cloth ziyarat souvenirs, printed prayer literature, embroidered prayer-mats. Strictly NO agarbatti, NO rose-water, NO solid tabarruk — MPI doesn’t make exceptions. Shipped to NZ-Sufi devotee families in Auckland and Wellington.

Wedding & festival outfits

Sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, dupattas, non-precious jewellery boxes. Shipped ahead of weddings to NZ-Indian families in Auckland and Wellington.

Cotton textile and block-print

Hand-block printed cotton, cushion covers, dohars from Ajmer wholesale traders. NZ buyers and small importers.

Diwali parcels (textile-only)

Cotton clothing, electronic gifts, sealed-decoration sets without dried flowers, brass items. No agarbatti, no food, no botanical content.

Returning-pilgrim parcels

For NZ-resident pilgrims who came for Ziyarat at Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah and shopped Ajmer/Pushkar markets. Picked up from the hotel, packed (zero organic material — MPI scrutinises tourist baggage closely; we strip agarbatti, dried flowers and any liquid items), shipped before they fly out.

07 — Tracking & proof of delivery

AWB on WhatsApp. Track on dtdc.in. POD when it lands.

The moment the parcel is booked into DTDC International, we send you the AWB number on WhatsApp. Type it into the public tracker at dtdc.in any time. When delivery happens we forward the POD — signed slip or photo — within the hour.

08 — Three questions about New Zealand shipments

Asked most often.

Why is MPI even stricter than Australia?

New Zealand is a smaller, more isolated island ecosystem with fewer natural pest defences than even Australia. A single moth species or fungal spore arriving via a wooden frame, a packet of dried herbs or a stick of agarbatti can do real damage to native flora and pasture. MPI’s response is to default to seizure on anything ambiguous. The rule of thumb for NZ shipments from Ajmer: cotton textiles, cloth ziyarat souvenirs, books and printed prayer literature are safe; anything organic or liquid (agarbatti, rose-water, attar, tabarruk-sweets, dried flowers) is at risk.

Can I send a Dargah-devotee gift to my family in Auckland?

Yes — but cloth-only. What works: green-cloth chadar fragments, embroidered prayer-mats, sealed printed Khwaja-Garib-Nawaz literature, prayer beads (non-organic). What doesn’t: agarbatti (plant material — MPI seizes), rose-water and attar (liquid block), solid tabarruk-mithai (food / dairy block), pressed flowers from Pushkar. We’ve shipped many devotee parcels to NZ-Sufi families; cloth-and-paper consignments arrive cleanly.

Honestly — how long does the parcel really take?

9–13 working days for express, 13–19 for economy. Be straight with yourself about this: it’s longer than Australia (7–11 days from Ajmer) because direct flights from India to NZ are limited and routing typically transits Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore or Hong Kong, plus the Ajmer-to-Jaipur feeder. The MPI clearance step in Auckland adds another 24–96 hours. We don’t advertise faster numbers to win the booking; we’d rather you book a wedding parcel two weeks early and have it land calmly than rush and miss the date.
